I'm a stickler for a tragic ending. There's just something about it that leaves an imprint in your mind when you are truly invested in something, y'know? I've always loved the concept of a 'Tragic Hero' since first reading The Great Gatsby.

I'm also a cynic at heart, and tend to have a bitter view of the world. I never feel that things work out for better in the end, no matter how much effort you put into it. The more you put into something, the less you get out of it. The journey is what counts, not the destination.

I prefer happy endings over tragic endings any day. But also don't have much of a problem with tragic endings. Because it makes you emotionally attached and if your not attached then the movie or book was pointless. I think a story gets compelling when a person is emotionally connected with character's story, because you want to know more whether happy ending or tragic ending.

I prefer happy endings, but feel that they are only really good if it cost the characters involved something significant to achieve it. Otherwise, it just falls flat.
