Does that mean the Earth is flat?

Humor aside, think of it like a pancake.

The theory goes that rather than being a sphere or random glob shape, the universe is sort of shaped like a pancake. The height of it would be tremendous, certainly, large enough to contain galaxies doing their spinning stuff. But what this theory is saying is that the universe is expanding on only one plane (sort of, that's probably oversimplified) rather than in all possible directions.

So yeah, pancake universe. Om nom nom.

Well I know the definition of both, but have you actually looked up the origins of politics? Just because the words sound similar doesn't mean that it's right.

It also became an abortion thread.
Except in that one, instead of an equal balancing of sides, it was me and ActRaiser (who quickly disolved from logic to baseless religious statements and butthurt) against like... eight people.

It's a weird concept, but I'll try to explain my understanding of it. If the universe was in fact finite, it would have to be spherical, which means that if you calculated a triangle across a massive distance (they used Earth and two stars at the edge of the observable universe, 13 billion light years away) you would get more than 180 degrees if you added up all the angles. The spherical shape of the universe would bend the angles (or something). The same thing happens if you draw a triangle on a flat map of the Earth and then turn it into a globe. But that's not what happened -- a triangle with 180 degrees was calculated, which means the fabric of the universe doesn't bend to accommodate physical boundaries, which makes it "flat" (like the map of the Earth) and infinite.

This is why I got a B in Geometry and Physics, as opposed to the As I got in all of my other classes. -.-

Anyway, but if they measured from each point, they probably would've made a straight line to each of the points instead of curving it... It's different when you make a triangle on paper and then curve it. They should've curved it THEN put the triangle on it. But...That's still just the outside. Unless they cut through the center of the globe.
