As each arrow reach around twenty feet in the air they were each violently thrown to the ground, most snapping from impact. All but one, which when it hit the invisible “line” was shot into the air at an incredible speed with a crackle of electrical energy.

Carter shot arrow after arrow into the sky until one finally made it threw. So this is not something that covers the whole plain which is good. As Carter moved around he could feel that the earth here felt different. It was almost like someone had been digging or plowing the land. But out this far? He turned to Asha to see if she figured out anything from the tree when he saw the ground move under her feet. He knew there were moles in this area and it would make sense that this is what effected the land but he wanted to make sure.

Carter reached back and grabbed three arrows and fired them at the moving dirt. He they yelled out a warning.

"Asha there is something moving under the ground. Everyone be on guard!"

As Carter fired the arrows into the ground each sunk into the ground a good deal. One however seemed to be rising with the soil itself. It was quick…too quick for the Chosen as a rotten corpse rose from the ground. It looked to be a townsperson, in a shopkeeper’s attire. His face was blackened and oozing a festering yellow puss that the arrow was deeply plunged into. His long dark eyes was literally dripping in grease.

It moved out bite Asha as its unfocused eyes shifting to her body as it was falling into the area that had been dug out. Among the area, four more creatures burst from the soil an orc that had blackened eyes and purple skin. A skeleton with a bow wearing a spiked helm. A skeletal zombie with fungus growing on its skin with sword and shield, and a terrible beast that shook off the dirt from its large body, an undead lion.

    Surprise Round

The orc (3,G) was carrying an old rusty battle ax and stood rather tall and broad shouldered. He glared at Toka, taking a swing at him from his emergence hole. Its muscles creaked as the mighty blow aimed to take the surprised ranger in the chest.

Asha was caught on a sink hole trap that would drop her three feet into loose soil and mud. (Reflex save 16) Unless she was able to quickly move her body upward she would be stuck (entangled) in the sticky soil. As if that wasn’t enough the zombie shopkeeper then tried to swatting his sickly blacked nails at her while also moving in to give her a friendly bit on the shoulder.

As the creature were emerging, the skeleton covered in fungus (L,4) had an retch inducing smell rolling off of it. The very air round it nearly turned a shade of green as the horrible smell wafted out from its rotten pieces of flesh.

Carter was glad that he hit the monster but was disturbed that he failed to spot the rest of the enemies that were coming at them now. It was time to see how the chosen of the Gods handled the situation.

Toka was taken in surprise by both the undead orc's attack and the smell of the fungi skeleton. He held his urge to puke, only gagging instead although it made him unable to dodge the incoming axe to his chest. The force knocked him as intended, but the fighter managed to regain his balance before he was thrown to far (F,4). The chosen then quickly drew his swords and took a stance against the orc.

Whatever he was thinking quickly disappeared as he focused on surviving.

"The ground here is blighted, something to with this tree sap. I think...whoah.", Asha said she fell 3ft. into the sinkhole.

    Reflex: http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3777454/ = 15

She glanced to see a zombie shopkeeper's feeble attempt to swipe at her. It's strike glaced off her side without harming her. But the smell was worse than the creature's claws. It wasn't too different from what she had to deal with during surgeries though.

    Fortitude; 1d20+14=33 against zombie shopkeeper

    Fortitude: 1d20+14=17 against fungus skeleton

She had already sunk up to her stomach in the hole, but fortunately the sinking had stopped.

    Initiative: 1d20+1=12

Her foremost though was on getting out of the hole, surviving the fight came secondary

The Skeletal archer’s yellowed sockets focused on Carter as it saw he had a bow and was outside of the fungus skeletons effective area. It gave out a loud cackles that was reserved for a man that was insane. It skeletal arms moved in practiced motions as it smoothly pulled two arrows from its quiver. Lining up a shot the yellow orbs that acted as eyes narrowed. It then quickly fired a volley of bone tipped arrows at its target.

The zombie lion began to pace around the area. Then as if commanded by an unseen master, it quickly rushed forward with a sickly yellow drool coming from its open jaw. Its claws fully exposed, it leapt forward to pounce on top of the dwarf that seemed ripe for the eating. The body rippled as it moved bits of flesh and fur dropping to the plains below.

As it in the air it was evident it meant to rake the dwarf with its claws and tear at his neck with its yellowed teeth.

The purple skinned Orc howled out as he saw his failed attempt to swat the man before him around. It quickly shook its body and lifted its ax into the air above its head. Its arms were thick and full of muscles, its body covered in a slimy liquid that glistened in the sunlight.

It swung the massive ax downward in an attempt to take off its targets left arm. However the ax fell from its grip, landing on the ground below.

Boulder watched the ground erupt and undead creatures of various types rise up around them. At that same moment he recognized the foul stench in the air, this one especially putrid and wrinkled his large nose, though he showed no other concern. From the side, a heavy creature pounced onto him, though the stout dwarven legs didn't buckle under the weight. The cat's front claws raked into his face and tore a little in the side of his neck, but as it's weight took it towards the ground, the dwarf grasped his axe hard in both hands and with a terrifying roar that shook the air, he swung sideways with every ounce of his strength. The blade solidly thunked into the side of the undead cat with a resounding crack as a huge chunk of flesh was torn away and ribs shattered. The dwarf howled, blood pouring down the side of his face as he raised his axe free of the cat's back and swung down towards it's head.

Carter watched the group spring into action as their enemies came at them. These were the chosen and he wanted to see how they reacted. These undead would not stand for long as long as he was able to fight. Their archer shot at him and he managed to duck the shots pretty easily. It must have been the dirt all over the arrows and the bow. He aimed for the archer and opened up with a rapid succession of shots.

    attack 1 30
    attack 2 28
    attack 3 20

    damage 1 15
    damage 2 15
    damage 3 16
(+2 to all damage from favored enemy that I forgot to add in to the roll)
