As the Chosen group followed the Alliance soldiers it was only a few hours until the group could see the great bridge. In terms of structural achievements, the Nexus now destroyed in Akkonan, the great city of Felthwie made by the High Elves, were the only man-made structures that surpassed the Karanaic Bridge. The divide that was carved by the Serpent River went down for miles. Some even said that Rallos Zek’s blade caused the mighty Rathe Mountains and miles of downward land that great bridge spanned.

Before each entrance on the bridge had been built fortresses that guarded this only way to transvers from the plains to the Rathe Mountains for hundreds of miles north and south. To any that had seen the bridge knew that this structure could allow an entire army to pass, being nearly half a mile wide. Runes have been carved into every stone, every pylon, and every chain that pieced this structure together.

As they approached within three hundred feet of the fortress that lead to the bridge Geoff stepped forward, “One moment..” He then muttered a small prayer in alight voice (Listen DC 17) and then placed his hand to a stone that before him. As he channeled positive energy into the stone a few lines sprouted out in a glowing like that leade to a few other stones. The result was a massive release of positive energy that lit up the ground bright enough to act as a temporary sun.

“A small defensive shield..” Ork said while grinning.

"Rather impressive fortifications", Asha remarked. She listened to Geoff's prayer...trying to figure out what it was.

    Listen: 1d20+15=18

"Well, friends, where are we headed?", Asha said with a meow. This seemed like a nice place to just pick a nice domesticated animal form and relax for a day. She could get back to healing in the morning...Sure Asha thought this way, but she knew her skills would be needed shortly. The thought still interested her. Cytomancy was inexact, but with a healthy application of nature magic she was able to speed up the process. She often did not have much practice with each form she took. Although the basics were covered, walking on four legs, slithering, biting, clawing, fish tails and the like. She prided herself on variety rather than effectiveness of each form she took. Even this form was more for speed than combat. Still it was odd that Leeta had sought to follow her...no it wasn't odd, that child was energetic and full of hope...Asha looked forward to meeting her again...

The trip went much faster with the people on foot having taken the potion. They were able to get to the bridge in just a few hours and were able to beat the storm there. Through out the whole ride he was able to watch as the storm came closer and he could hear the thunder. In just a few hours there would be rain. And for the looks of it it was going to be a nasty storm.

Most of these thoughts left his mind as he laid eyes on the bridge. He had heard tails of the giant bridge and one can think ' yeah it is huge'. Then to see it first hand is a real humbling experience. He had been in the presence of a God and made to feel little. He had felt things being taken out of his control and now he was gazing upon on of the man's greatest engineering feats. It was larger then any bridge that he had ever seen and from the looks of it this would be the only spot to cross the river. If the undead were going en mass through the plains then this was a strategic spot that they would have to take. Boulder was completely correct with the significance of this site.

Carter watched as the cleric walked forward and said something and touched one of the stones. The ground lit up like the sun and Ork said it was a shield. With the runes here this must be a shield to rival anything he could even imagine.

Asha asked where they were to go next which was a logical question.

"There is a storm coming that should hit us in about three hours. The plains can be deadly as you have seen. Now add pour weather into the mix and our survival chances drop. I would suggest that we rest here and gather information while we ride out the storm. While our guides get some medical attention since he is bleeding pretty bad."

Carter pointed out the blood that was pooling on the ranger. He was amazed that the man made it through the whole journey. It was a testament to the rangers abilities. To have the sheer endurance to force march across inhospitable terrain with out a word of complaint.

"So you said that there would be people here who could tell us about Asher? Also would there be anyone who could aid us in finding the enemies general and enchantress. I figure they would be near the front lines and this seems to be a site that they would have to take."

"You were bleeding out and you didn't tell me...you should mention these things before we travel in the future.", Asha said to the ranger and Carter. "Which of you require immediate medical attention, and please tell me in the future so I can help."

Asha remembered her mission, it danced in the back of her mind while she tried to figure out a way to get close. "Why don't we get inside, I'll be able to take care of you there."

As the approached the bridge, Boulder marveled at the bridge's construction. When someone claimed that it was the third greatest structural achievement in the world and what the other two were, he laughed, but didn't say a word, at least until they got closer and he could take a real look. He was willing to reserve judgement, but he was sure that if the elven city truly was one of the greatest structural feats, they had probably hired dwarves to build it, or perhaps giants. Anyone else was only second rate stonemasons and carvers in his opinion.

Boulder's second appraisal was of the fortifications. He would really need to see a nearby map if there was one, because from what he could tell, he was going to have to look at what sort of land this would be exposing the enemy to. This bridge could maybe hold an army for a short time, but had far too many avenues for an army such as those the Necromancer fields. Hordes of mindless undead led by powerful wizards flanked by fierce creatures and barbarian armies who's deaths only resulted in more undead. The magics here might hold them back long enough for people to get away, if they were lucky, but all those fortresses would be doing was segregating themselves from one another as soon as they were surrounded and anyone inside would be facing certain death, either from starvation if they could miraculously hold out against the invaders, but most likely not, and each death would add to the enemy's numbers. Boulder could only see one real solution to the problem, but if the alliance has not seen it yet, then it would most likely be too late for it. He shook his head at the bridge once more. Maybe it was well made, but if it was ever made to hold back an army, it was a complete failure in his estimation.

When Geoff stepped forward to offer his little prayer and spell, Boulder didn't even bother trying to listen. Instead he just let out another laugh at the man's comment. It was a wonder dwarves hadn't already taken over the whole world already. He muttered something of his own in
, as far too many others spoke dwarven. In common, he said to the man, "Lead way," and offered a wry grin which on Boulder seemed a bit challenging.

"If the man did not ask for the help I am not one to meddle in his affairs. He is a fellow hunter and I will respect his honor. Any how let us go to the fort. I see no more reason to stand here and look at the bridge."

Carter lead Beatrix toward the fort with the rest of the group. He wondered if they would let non-alliance members in for the evening. Well they would soon find out.

Ork and the others moved into the massive gate nearly eighteen feet call and a curved inward as to block enemy arrow fire. Six archers watched and waved them close.”State your name and call code!”

Ork looked to the bleeding archer, “Sparrow Sweet!”

There was a large ‘clang’ as four Ogres were seen pulling the gates open. It was shocking to some however others knew that some of the Ogre clans have thrown in their lot with the Alliance. Inside there was a good amount of soldiers that moved with purpose. Those that’s that grew up in the major cities it might seem like a lesser one. As they moved inward they were quickly surrounded by robed men in all colors.

“Anyone need healing? …they are all living…no dark magics..” the statements and questions came in flurries.

Ork turned back and looked, “Welcome to the Span.. for field information I would recommend going to the gathering hall. “ He looked to Asha, “Your squire is in the alchemist supply tent, causing the Quarter master quite a stir..” He moved to one of the white robes, “Hector here has a nasty wound in the back; he will need that looked at.”

As the group was starting to adjust, a man in a vest with feathers in his hair came forward and spoke in a heavy Auran accented common, “Names and purpose for coming to this refuge?”

"Asha Valdrei, I seek information on high priority targets, and also to reunite with my squire." she said mid purr.

"I suppose if you don't need me for anything right now I'll check on my squire.", Asha said as she made her way to the alchemist's supply tent. She was still clothed in the form of a cheetah with only her white sash to identify herself. "Lillith are you in here?", Asha said remaining just outside the supply tent, the immense size of her animal form wasn't suitable for actual buildings. Asha knew this. She would have to select a more manageable form for her stay in the Span. Probably a house cat, she hadn't done that one in a while.

She'd only need to shapeshift again if they were staying long, She could ask about Scalescert later...

The fort was abuzz with activity as they entered. Questions and commands were being thrown out left and right. Trying to find out if they were allies and to get them to a place that was not the entrance to the fort. They asked for their injured and since Carter was unharmed he tuned out once they started taking people off to the medics. He tuned back in when a man in a vest came up and asked for their names and reason for being there.

"Carter Race, information gathering on high priority targets. We will be out of your way as soon as this storm passes."

With that Carter went to the gathering hall and started to seek information out on their targets. He would start with any rangers that he could find and work his way up to any officers that might be willing to talk to him. Any information would be helpful because at the present he did not know much about these people.

The Alchemical supply tent had all sorts of stock potions, ingredients and tools for making mixtures. It was sealed tight and dusky scent to it. A single gnome (quite a shock to see one alive) was inside mixing a rather potent smelling brew when he heard a voice call out. He stopped mixing and made his way to the doorway. He gave out a frightful gasp as he saw the large cat, but it was quickly replaced by a few quizzical questions and interest.

“Oh my you are an interesting animal familiar! You are here by your master’s orders to pick up the Halfling child and her bat are you? She has had me a nervous wreck what with her sampling of draughts and brews. I though her dead when she swallowed a glass full of potent sleep potion.” He laughed in a high pitched manner, “But she isn’t here at the moment. She went to the bunk house to sleep you see. You can tell your master that news. Also let him know I am running a special sell to all those dedicated to the Alliance Offensive.”

Meanwhile Carter had gotten through enough of the peon rangers to find someone that had some knowledge. I the armory next to the guard outpost that over looked the massive crevice. A Dark Elf sat looking out a window into the near bottomless canyon. He had a glass of dark red wine in his hand, he let it swirl around a few times before taking a sip. Turning he looked to Carter and spoke as if he had drank pisswater, “A human ranger seeking knowledge of Asher the Dark eh?”

His eyes narrowed, “What do you have to offer me that would be worth my time to tell you of that traitor?”
