1812 was pretty legitimate. There's this idea floating around that the British were trying to take back the colonies or whatever. It was more a fight to establish America's sovereignty on the world scene. The French and British navies were kidnapping American sailors at the time.

Fuckin I forget the term they had for that but I was pissed when I read about it in us history.

See, that's totally different than from we were taught.
We were taught that Canada and America went to war (said in a way that implied America started it), and Canada either won or held them off until a peace treaty was brokered depending on the source.
All year we've been getting things on TV advertising the War of 1812 documentary and other such events they're putting on

Wow. I mean, not to shit on your history lessons but the Canadian front of the war was the smallest aspect of it.

America did start the war, though. It wasn't exactly an illegitimate reason though.

Canada-America wasn't small, but the end result was a status quo. The War of 1812's biggest aspect from the American perspective is the British invasion and the burning of Washinton D.C.

Here's the thing about the US, we've got the best military in the world and have bases strategically put around the globe for instantaneous attack for anyone who wants to fuck with us. This allows the majority of us to be ignorant to the outside world and global workings of todays civilization.

Other than that...we have one of the worst public education systems in the world, more money being pushed into the military than in education or public safety (law enforcement, firefighters, etc), a two party political system that just continues to tear this country apart (it seems to me all these hard right Republicans and hard left Democrats forget that they're both AMERICAN), a ludicrous justice system, television shows glorifying being an asshole/getting pregnant/being honey boo boo, etc etc...

We gotta get our shit together.
