the titanic

April 10, 1912.
THE Titanic sets out from from Southampton, its maiden voyage rumoured to be full of prestige, renown, and best of all, rich folk willing to lay down a couple hundred pounds, francs, or dollars to have a room on the luxurious ship. Making stops at Cherbourg in France and Queenstown in Ireland, the ship's final destination is the bustling American hub of New York City. There are vastly different reasons the passengers have boarded the Titanic - a chance at the first voyage of the famed 'unsinkable' ship, an impoverished family with a ticket to the new world and a new life, a starving artist throwing his money on luxuries he can't afford. No matter the reason, however; these passengers are about to get the ride of their lives ... and maybe the last one.

A simple Titanic roleplay with a twist is what this is. We will start out with around seven players, if that many. Relationships are encouraged to be built with other passengers; however, don't get too close, because once we hit the iceberg, I will use a random name generator to put all of our character's names in. The name I get will be the character to die with the ship - it may even be mine. That doesn't mean you won't get to post again, though. If your character dies you are welcome to make another to take his/her place. There will be seven spots open originally (this will expand if more are interested, but I don't see that happening. Historical roleplays aren't on most's favourites list) and they will be rather specific. Other than that, you're encouraged to make a completely unique character with restrictions regarding the time in which the roleplay takes place. What I mean is that it will be incredibly unlikely to find a female, say, making the voyage alone (although with a maid could happen) because she is heading to 'teh USA to start up a business and show those chauvinistic men who's boss'.
I'm also a stickler for period appropriate names. That's a bit specific, but oh well. It just grinds my gears when I see an 'Amanda' or something of the sort in a historical roleplay. I understand creativity, but I don't understand blatant stupidity. This doesn't mean it can't be uncommon - actually, most names were uncommon. They weren't all Marys and Johns. Just ... no Aces or Whispers, okay?
The spots we will begin with are:
1st Class
American Businessman
British Duke
2nd Class
French Young Woman (Me, hopefully)
French Young Man (related to the above? no relation at all? etc. you to decide.)
American College Student (Most likely leaving England from a foreign - exchange program in say, Oxford.)
3rd Class
British Maid
Irish Girl
