'sie' sounds weird, and isn't immediately recognizable as a pronoun. 'hir' sounds too similar to 'her'.
Of course, 'ze' sounds like your mocking the french, so it isn't perfect either =P

Yeah, I agree that 'sie' is weird. I think 'hir' is supposed to be pronounced like 'here,' so while it's kind of similar there's definite distinction. It also has the benefit of sort of looking and sounding like it's in between him and her, so it works in that sense.

Who cares about mocking the French though? They're French. :D
