The Future Is .. Bleak

Be prepared for another ill explained RP idea of mine that I will blame on my concussion once more, haha. Now getting to business. I see many survival, post apocalyptic, zombie, and a fusion f these and many more concepts all throughout this forum, but none of these seem to pique my interest. Why? I believe it is simply that these concepts while great, just don't convey the emotion that is needed to push such a story. The stories lack fear, and let's face it, we are a fear driven people. That gripping fear that your character may die, the fear of turning the barrel on your fellow man, the fear that .. you just might not make it to the end. Unrealistic character sheets who don't really describe a real person. I continually see ex-special forces veterans, or people with outstanding histories. While this isn't wrong, to bring a story of survival to life I believe we need to stray away from that and incorporate more of ourselves into our characters. I'm talking a 30 year old father of two who is trying to protect his family from imminent doom, that type of emotion is what drives a story. Enough of that. Oh, and let me add, I am by no means taking shots or mean any disrespect by the above message, just my two cents I suppose.

My main point, finally. Most stories we see are post apocalyptic, I would like to bring something somewhat fresh to the masses. Current apocalypse, as in, the fall of their society and the events soon after. From suburban and city life, to total anarchy. The time period would be modern, I won't get caught up on a year, but everything begins on New Year's Eve. I haven't chose a city yet but somewhere on the East Coast, it may be made up, not sure yet. It would be a somewhat Utopian society before things happened. Meaning guns were not readily available, laws were fair for the most part, there wasn't much social unrest. Everyone was generally happy with life and lived their basic day to day lives. I haven't even decided yet the reason why the society collapses and things go to Hell. This is basically here to just see if anyone is interested, if there is interest I will gladly flesh out a back story etc. In this RP I'm looking for four to six dedicated players willing to put their writing skills to the test. I will be GMing during the tenure of this and playing NPCs as well.

I almost forgot! haha, the main point of me creating this. There is a twist in how this RP will be played. This RP will be story driven and to make sure lulls in the story don't happen I will be dictating (to a degree) what happens, in the form of scenarios. Say for example we have characters Chris and Regina and they are in a room. They each look around to scavenge for items. After they each post, I would then post for example (You find a handgun with an empty magazine, would you like to keep it?) You could accept or decline and then it would be added to your inventory. (AGAIN, this will be much more coherent in an OCC) If your character doesn't have a bag with them or something to hold items then .. you can't carry it! I really want to capture that sense of survival here, that sense of hopelessness. You have a handgun with a single bullet, do you pull the trigger or simply use your gun as scare tactics? I will be logging your inventories and status of health after each member has posted a certain # of times between scenario/status updates.

Characters 1-6 post ..

I would then post an update

Char # 1
Health : Good
Inventory: Backpack contents (flashlight/beef jerky/small knife)
In Hand: Lead pipe

Char # 2
Health : Fair (sprained ankle)
Inventory: N/A
In Hand: Bat


A possible scenario for them to choose ..
Then I would have a number for example 12, meaning each character needs to post twice before the story will progress further
I hope this makes sense, to me it adds a nice twist

So on and so forth, but it will much more detailed and pretty

I want real characters, real fear, real emotion, love, everything a human experiences. Weapons will be hard to come by, you must be innovative, your character isn't an esteemed killer, I expect hesitance in some situations or at least morality. Anyways, any interest? In peace and love.

this sounds right up my alley, I've always been in favor of stacking the survival odds against players in post-apocalyptic settings. It is kinda silly to think any ordinary person would be able to easily get their hands on an automatic weapon, much less after the collapse of society.

Once book 1 commences I will be reopening and accepting more characters for the next book. Some of these characters can very well die, but as of now I have my 6. If anyone drops out I will shoot you guys some PMs to see if you are still interested. Peace and Love.
