    Wolf RP's?

What is up with all of these Wolf Rp's. Don't mean to aggravate anyone, but I don't see why they are such a big thing. Are they just something I don't know about?

    ლಠ益ಠ)ლ But at what cost!

Wolfs just seem to be the most common wild animal for people to relate to I suppose. They're featured in numerous TV shows, comics and books, people simply identify with them as cool would be my guess.

    That's my opinion anyway.

Because the human race is an absurdly strange creature.

I ask the same question you did about Wolf Rp's about High School RPs, any RPs based on Anime, and many other subjects (And about animal-RPs)

Do not ask people questions you may realise you REALLY wish you didn't know the answer. For example, I mean no offence to anyone, but there are Furries and Bronies and that on the site, it's the sort of thing they, Fantasize? about.

I don't understand it. I'm not going to pretend I do. And I'm not going to ask them. It isn't my thing so who cares?

Wolves are like dogs in most people's eyes, and most people have owned or met dogs in their lifetime.

Wolves are cool badasses who represent the cold loner with a heart of gold stereotype. In reality, wolves are pack hunters who will nonchalantly kill each other if it means being closer to becoming the alpha or even the beta. In fiction, which is where most people get their information on wolves from, wolves are basically the intelligent, cunning, badass mercenaries of the animal kingdom.

Simply put: Wolves are just unknown enough to attract attention from most people, but with a familiar enough and beloved stereotype attached to warrant sticking with them. Plus the furry community is typically borderline fanatical--people in the furry community rarely do non-furry related things--and thus the number of "wolf RP's" is strangely boosted by the mixing of a permanent fan base (see: furries) with the temporary and occasional attention granted by the rest of the community based on the "wolves are badasses" stereotype. This is in contrast to a vast majority of other genres, which don't have sizable, permanent fan bases on this site.

It's why you'll always see a Naruto RP hanging around, or a wolf RP, or a high school RP. There are small but permanent fan bases to draw from for each (Anime, Furry, Student fetishes fantasies each respectively) AS WELL AS the larger, temporary "fling of the moment" crowds. You won't see as many cyber punk RP's around because there isn't as large a permanent fan base for those as there is for the previous three.

    And that is today's lesson.

tl;dr: Basic Marketing. "Product A" has permanent interest from group B and temporary boosted interest from group's C and D, whereas "Product B" only has the temporary boosted interest from group's C and D and will inevitable die away and come back, unlike "Product A" which will always have interest from the smaller but permanent group B.

Well in High School roleplays and anime roleplays, you're still playing humanoid creatures. But with a wolf roleplay, you're playing an animal that thinks differently then humans, is more instinct driven then humans, is smaller then humans, and many other differences. So if anything, playing a wolf would be harder then playing in, say, a supernatural highschool RP.
That said, I also strongly agree with everything Brovo said. The furry community is quite strong here.

The problem I have with High School and Anime RPs isn't the humanoid angle. I've played creatures that literally defied physics in their biology (An alien race subject to a colossal entropic curse, fun to play, impossible to actually describe )

My problem with the aforementioned two is the... no offence intended... rank immaturity that plagues them. But I don't make an issue of it because most of the players of such RPs are, as I understand it, in roughly that age bracket. But the 'teenage drama' style never sat well with me even when I was a kid, same reason I hate Soap Operas. Everything is so over-dramatised it annoys the hell out of me. I simply can't relate to things like that.

Well it depends on the kind of High School RP you pick and who the GM is. High school roleplays come in two different categories I find: Mundane and supernatural. As having been in several supernatural highschool roleplays, I've never seen so much of a twinkle that is the drama of regular high school roleplays.

My main issue with wolf RPs, or really anything involving wolves, is how the packs are portrayed. There is always some rigid hierarchy with an alpha at the top. In reality, the only time a clear leader ever emerges in a pack is when random wolves are thrown together in an enclosure, which is how wolves were studied until recently, thus the widely prevalent myth of pack structure.
In reality, the "Alpha couple" are merely the currently breeding pair. A wolf pack doesn't do something because the alpha somehow manages to communicate to the pack to do it. It's because they all choose to do it.

Of course, nobody knew this until like year 2000 or something so it's pretty excusable, but still, people are being wrong!
    On the internet!
    How dare they!
