Khan I am fine with your character perhaps thinking that is the reason for Ghost leopards being rare. But Ghost Leopards are rare to the point that they have been considered a myth by most for a while now (more than simply a near extinct species). Hunting isn't really a problem for them since they can just teleport away before hunters can even track them down.

When I read Forsoff asking that question I considered that they are rare because they have just always been rare... There has always been a small number of them since their species was first created. Their low numbers plius their incredible mobility leads to them having an extreme amount of trouble finding a mate and repopulating. This could also combine with them being relatively stable and having a very low chance of actually having a child.

Or possibly they could have relatively good numbers, and just barely ever have encounters with intelligent races. They live in the deepest parts of woods and jungles and their ability to teleport away from travelers before they even noticed them would allow the leopards to simply avoid detection most of the time. It could be that they few known encounters with ghost leopards were simply due to the leopards' own curiosity towards creatures they hadn't seen before.

Interesting, though as this is a world of fantasy.

Those who would hunt them likely would be able easily, likely through divining magic and their own teleportation magic. As shown by darkmatter. (and would make transporting such a creature actually necessary.)

Doesn't really matter in the long run.

Like I said, your character can believe that if you want. But I just wanted you to know that it is not necessarily the reason.
