    Medeavil Civilization Roleplay OOC

Here you go guys, this is for all the people in my Tribe/Civilization IntChck. (Please note that this is my first Advanced Roleplay so I may be a little behind, slow, or whatever oyu want to call it.

It is the middle of the Medeavil Era. New civilizations are popping up everywhere. Most of them have differences in culture, religion, and beliefs. Some may use different tactics to problems. Like one may try to go at something civilly and try to talk things over, while another may go straight to war. They might have a little difference in technology, in weapons, buildings, medicine, etc. etc. Since they are in different areas, they may also have also have different plants, animals, climate, and wildlife in general in their surronding areas. An example might be that one civilization might be in a warm and dry area, with geckos, cactuses, lizards, and other dry plants. While another might have a very wet and cool climate, with lots of grass, trees, bears, birds and other animals. Granted, those civilizaitons won't be that close together, as that would be just silly and stupid.

As we speak to each other, I can add more to this, but that is entirely up to you.

I'll come up with a nation sheet soon, maybe by today. Either that or tomorrow. Medeavil is actually spelt as Medieval, actually... Sorry.

I'm not sure if I should still use the Boskop men as the framework still though.

Species Name (Their Own): The Awakened Ones
Species Name (What Others in the Local Vicinity Call Them): The Seers, Prophets, Thinkers
Species Description: The Awakened Ones are short (the tallest would still come up slightly short of an average man) and weak creatures by the standards of mankinds, but possesses an unequally large head that is pointed towards the back.
Species Strength: The Awakened Ones are endowed with superior intelligence, somewhere in the range of 150 IQ on average. They are nimble and dexterous, able to manipulate objects and tools with their hands very well. That said, they could often find obscure solutions to many problems, and manipulate the world around them to do it.
Species Weakness: However, they are weak and fragile by the standards of mankind. Even their strongest would have trouble besting a regular humans in a straight-froward, brutal confrontation. As such, their humble beginnings were difficult, and it was only with cooperation with other species and some thinking that carried them through the prehistoric age.

Civilisation Name: The Republic of Aethera
    Population: 4,304,480 (Awakened), 2,530,256 (Humans)
Description (Society): The Republic of Aethera is the dominant Awakened political force, and is characterised as a hub of scientific, philosophical and religious enlightenment. Trade is booming the the Republic, in order to fuel its purpose and to provide for the Republic's curiosity and drive to discover and solve problems. There are no caste systems or class divides, though there is an informal rift between the Awakened and Humans, one that has caused several isolated civil problems over the years. Humanity are mainly immigrants, and are unable to rise in rank due to their modest abilities within the Awakened sphere, and are employed mainly in the areas of manual labour, the military and in some cases as simple clerks.
Technological level: Aethera society is highly advanced, equivalent to a Renaissance society on Earth. Expect languages and registers for each of the major professions, expect scientific experimentation, a proto-democratic political structure, mass use of gunpowder in defence and a refined culture. Unlike Renaissance Europe however, there was never a loss of 'classical' culture, as the Awakened are meticulous record-keepers, so their historical documents are thorough and all-encompassing.
    Military: 400,000 (Awakened) 600,000 (Humans)
Description (Military): The Military of Aethera is highly organised and technologically advanced, not just due to the nature of the Awakened, but also due to numerous rude awakenings that had shown to the Awakened that reason does not shine brightly beyond their frontiers. Due to their feeble nature, the Awakened's medieval tactics are more similar to modern warfare in many respects than medieval warfare. In most cases, they do not fight in formations, but rather in loose lines forming a front, and would attempt to keep ranged superiority and retreat accordingly. They are mostly skirmishers, and would only advance when an advantage is perceived. The only element of medieval warfare present in Awakened tactics would be the cavalry, and even then, they mostly serve as ranged skirmishers that are just more mobile.

The weapons of the Awakened and their Human soldiers are almost beyond that of the medieval era. While repeating crossbows are wielded by the rank and file, mass use of arquebuses are just as common, and with just a few more technological advancements likely replace the crossbows. Swords are also common, but in Awakened tactics used rarely.

The Aetheran Military is organised into units. A squad of ten is the smallest unit, and ten squads form a company of hundred. Ten companies of thousand would then form a battleline. An army consists of ten battlelines of ten thousand soldiers. The Awakened focuses on quality, and as such, each soldier is meticulously trained in squads, which would then come together to form their groups. Different soldier types are mostly organised into companies, but can be broken down if a battle requires it. The most common soldier type is the line infantry, which carries crossbows and swords. Arquebusiers are on the rise however, rivalling line infantry companies. Humans serve as heavy infantrymen, armed similarly to the line infantry and arquebusiers, but often wore heavier armour and are used very often to lead charges. Cavalry is similarly divided between Awakened and Humans, while the artillery companies that are using cannons are a mixture of both species.

That's all I can think of for now. I'm not sure how the Nation Sheet is supposed to be like...

EDIT: Mine is far from finished, especially considering the many fields I have failed to fill up in comparison with the rest... For the time being, I've multiplied my population by a factor of 10, following the rest of you guys. Do note though that I honestly don't know if there would be any other Awakened states in this world. If mine's the only one, then the species would be in a bit of a trouble.

Full/Official Name: Sacre Basileou Ton Livoniion, or, The Holy Livonian Empire

    Shortened Name: Livonia

    Demonym: Livonii

    Capital: Theoleptopoulis

    Population: Approximately 6 Million

Language(s): Livoniianoi. This language is actually one of the longest-lived languages known to the world at the moment, having existed, more or less intact, from even before the Empire was formed. Obviously, some changes have been made, but the overall character of the language is unique to the region.

    Demographics:
    57% Livoniianoi, 43% Human

    The Livoniianoi

Racial Description: The Livoniianoi are the nobility and upper classes of Livonian society. Lanky in form, grey in hair, and blue in eyes, they suffer slightly from in-breeding, but thankfully, their traits breed true when mingling with regular humans.

Racial History: The Livoniianoi, to a person, can trace their ancestry back all the way to the beginning of the Empire, and the first Basileou Basileon, a very long time ago indeed. Some say that the Livoniianoi are the closest thing to what humanity first was in the world, but others say that it is mere rubbish, and in-breeding has produced the race.

    Racial Advantage:

    * Incredibly Intelligent: The Livoniianoi have such a great access to stores of knowledge reaching extremely far back into the mists of time, that they are far better educated than just about anyone on the face of the planet.

    * Unearthly Appearance: Some say that the Livoniianoi are only one step away from the Gods, like the Seraphim, and that their silver hair and their blue eyes are proof that they are the original scions of humanity. This improves their relationships with other members of humanity greatly, as people, for whatever reason, seem to just like them.

    Disadvantage:

    * Spoiled: The Livoniianoi as a race are generally pampered, treated as superiors, and overall given everything they want, due to being in the ruling classes. As a result, they are not used to surviving well outside of the confines of their walls, and have a hard time handling rough weather.

Government: Theocratic Absolute Empire - The Emperor, or Basileus, serves as the secular leader of both the church and state, serving as an enforcer of church law and secular law. The Patriarch serves as the spiritual leader of church and state, and although his power is not temporal, the fact that religion is such a powerful force inside of Livonia ensures that his commandments, when he chooses to make them, are followed, despite not having any real weight or authority behind them.

Head(s) of State and Government: Basileus Basileon (Emperor of Emperors) Theophanus IV Belisarias, 3rd of the Belisarion Dynasty. Currently dealing with rampant corruption inside of the sprawling bureaucracy present within his nation. A rather unremarkable leader, except for the relatively recent step taken allowing bastard children to inherit the throne as well as legitimate ones, a rather controversial step.

    Religion:

    Pharistism

Pharistism is a greater name for the monotheistic religion that the Holy Livonian Empire follows, with its own internal divisions and so on and so forth. Pharistism and the Empire came about at about the same time: The unity and peace promised by Pharistos, the main prophet, allowed the shifting of the original Livonian city states and villages into one solid governmental unity.

This unity would last for an incredible amount of years, almost 800, before divisions and cracks, caused by arguments of doctrine and scripture, began eating away at the togetherness of the church.

As it stands, pure Pharistism is rarely, if ever, practiced anymore, due to the division of the church into two separate parts, Monopharistism and Duopharistism. What started as an argument about the divine nature of Pharistos ended up splitting Pharistism greatly between two separate lines.

At its heart, both Pharistite sects worship the same general deity, Theos, an all-powerful and notably genderless being who appeared and spoke to Pharistos atop a mountain near his home of Protheoka, later to become Theoleptopoulis. Theos is notable amongst early deities in that he espoused peace, trade, and serenity, and forgiveness over war-like tendencies and hatred of the infidel. It is also notable for having no creation myth associated with it.

Similarly odd is the tradition amongst both sects of Science complimenting Religion. Both the Monopharistite and the Duopharistite church greatly support knowledge and learning of all kinds, and central to the belief structure is that to understand the world around them, and everything in it, is to understand Theos. Unsurprisingly, this results in some of the most fervent believers in Pharistism being scientists.

    Monopharistism

Monopharistism is the dominant religious orientation of Livonia, and the one most commonly practiced ever since the divisive Ecclesiastical Wars of recent years. The central belief of Monopharistism, separating it from Duopharistism, holds that Pharistos was born as one with Theos, and spoke with his same voice, therefore, Theos and Pharistos are one and the same. This meant that the words of Pharistos are to be held over all other prophets or other such speakers, resulting in a solid base of doctrine to fall back upon in questions of faith.

Later, the differences between Duopharistism and Monopharistism became more and more pronounced, as Monopharistism began to adopt far more of the ideas of peace and prosperity that the original scriptures taught. Adopting an extremely firm rule on no Holy War (a decision that some think may have cost the Empire a great deal of land in the long run), Monopharistism remained a monastic, mystic, and deeply spiritual faith, with more connection to the divine than to earthly matters. It remains as such to this day.

    Duopharistism

Duopharistism formed as a response to increasing aggressiveness to tribes near the Livonian people. Starting off mostly as a difference of issues stemming from one particular heretic, named Arius, Duopharistism held that Pharistos was but a man that had heard Theos' message, yes, but he was not one and the same with him. Starting from this difference, Duopharistism adopted a more militant stance than Monopharistism.

As a result, Duopharistism gained great acceptance amongst soldiers of the Empire, until in the 14th century, the Ecclesiastical Wars were fought, finally favoring Monopharistism. Duopharistism favors aggressive expansion of the faith by the sword, and favors holy wars in matters of defense, such as if an invading heathen army attempts to invade Livonia.

    National Flag:

This flag was the one adopted with the rise of the Belisarius Dynasty, and has various unique traits about it that signify different things.

The double-headed eagle signifies Livonia looking both West, towards the rest of the world and its traditional lands of conquering, and East, towards the numerous foes and nomadic hordes which have come from that direction. The symbol within the central circle is a modified Pharistite symbol, later to become the dominant Monopharistite symbol due to the Belisarius Dynasty's fervent adherence to Monopharistism. The sharp, needle-like spread wings and talons reflect Livonia's capabilities in war, sharp on both sides and ready to engage all foes.

The two crowns atop of the eagle's heads signify the ideal of "Empire of Empires" that Livonia has espoused since its formation. A bit of a controversial design change, and certainly one that makes other nations nervous, the crowns mean both rulership over the current lands, and rulership over the lands it once ruled, as a near-continent spanning empire.

The deep red-purple of the flag is the traditional color of royalty in Livonia, the specific dye in question created from a rare snail raised in small hatcheries only within the country, and all fabrics being dyed in a traditional fashion. The gold coloration is to similarly reflect the majesty of the nation.

    History:

~5200 LIA: The indigenous groups who are to become the Livonii settle, learning agriculture amongst the relatively fertile river valleys of that region. They master the arts of working metals such as copper, and develop into small, proto-citystates.

~ 5000 LIA: The Livoniianoi meet other cultures. They gain bronze from the deal, but little else, as they are too far to be effectively culturally influenced.

4249 LIA (According to Scripture): Pharistos is born in the village of Protheoka. At this point, the Livoniianoi are merely shamanistic nature worshippers. Belisarion, the son of the Tyrant of Protheoka, inherits leadership at the age of 15 after a strange hunting accident that his father was involved in.

4221 LIA (According to Scripture): Pharistos has his first vision of Theos, and delivers the news to the village. The village is skeptical at first, but a rock explodes when Pharistos touches it with his staff, claiming it is a miracle. The village is whipped into a religious frenzy, and it takes several days to cool tempers. At the end of the days, Belisarion is declared as the Defender of the Faith, and is tasked with bringing the other Livoniianoi under the watchful arms of Theos by Pharistos.

~ 4200 LIA: The Livoniianoi are united under one banner, the Pharistite Cross, crowning Belisarion I as the Basileus, or Emperor, of the Livoniianoi. Technically the beginning of the Holy Livonian Empire, but the state itself remained insular and isolated, accomplishing little and instead working on the daily toil of their lives.

~ 3000 LIA: Beginning of the Classical Age of Livonia. A great bumper crop allows the Livonian population to expand greatly around this time period. Basileus Theoleptos VI Lascaris, known as The Builder, constructs Theoleptopoulis ontop of the site of Protheoka with various innovative building methods and eager, zealous citizens, also creating the Ekklesia Sacri Karidi, or, the Church of the Sacred Heart. An extremely advanced structure for its time, it is to be revised at least 5 more times until its current shape. The remains of Belisarion I are taken from the first church built, and are transported to the Ekklesia Sacri Karidi, where they are placed in repose along with 12 empty coffins, for worthy emperors of the Livonians to be buried in.

~2500 LIA: The Great Expansion, and the beginning of Duopharistism. Livonians, running out of room to live, begin expanding to the south and to the west, quickly overrunning just about every tribe or nation in their path, slaughtering many and pushing their religion and culture on those left behind. The first beginnings of a true Empire. By the end of 2000 LIA, Livonia controls much of the known world.

~ 1500 LIA: Livonia controls most of the known, subjugating numerous tribes under their grasp, and holding it all together through a brilliant combination of faith, good leadership, technology, and military excellence. Nikaephoros XI Lascaris, the last of the Lascari Dynasty, known as "The Just", pushes forth a fully written down legal code adopted from the former orally known code and greatly simplified. This Livonian Code becomes the basis for numerous countries' legal systems hence.

~ 1000 LIA: The Agapimenou Dynasty comes into power at approximately this time, after a long series of military-supported governments. Tension between the Monopharistite and Duopharistite schisms increases.

~ 500 LIA: Time of Troubles. A variety of poor emperors and failing bureaucratic systems results in a reduction of borders due to rebellion. Duopharistism becomes more of a problem during this point in time, and many rebellions are due to persecution of the heretical belief. Nomads and settlers come from the uncharted and unexplored east, eating away at Livonian borders and shrinking the state greatly. Storm clouds on Livonia's horizons almost certainly mean storms will be hitting other lands as well, however.....

102 LI: Livonia is shrunk greatly by tribal and heretical revolts. Barbarians invade, but they are mostly diverted to other nations with bribes and diplomacy in order to ensure the survival of the Empire. It works, but at the cost of defaming the Empire to the remaining nations, resulting in a cultural distancing occuring between them.

542 LI: Konstantin XII Agapimenous, also known as the Builder, begins work on a grand project. He constructs a massive amount of walls surrounding Theoleptopoulis in order to ensure the city remains safe. The light of civilization, crushed underneath the boots of barbarians and invaders, still shines brightly in Livonia, although the glories of the Empire are not quite as great. The Dark Ages (To the Livonii, at least) begin.

784 LI: Neptos II Agapimenous, known as The Pious, in a fit of zealousness, begins a crusade against holy images and works of art within the Church, believing that the focus of Pharistism should be upon Theos, and not upon images of saints, Pharistos, or attempts to create images of Theos. This heresy goes on for approximately the next 450 years, and results in much Classical Era artwork being irrevocably destroyed. However insensitive the Iconoclastic Emperors of the Agapimenou Dynasty may have been, they were effective generals, and reclaimed much territory in Libera.

1224 LI: The last Agapimenou Emperor dies, leaving the throne to a family line tracing direct descendance from Belisarion, the Belisarius Family. Iconoclasm similarly ends.

1300 LI: The Ecclesiastical War. Duopharistite rebels, finally tired of subjugation and second class citizenry, rise up en masse under the charismatic leadership of Andronikos Doukas, a rabble-rousing priest that turned out to be an exceedingly effective general. For the next 50 years, civil war rips the Empire nearly apart. Refugees go to Hesperia, sparking off the Renaissance in those places.

1354 LI: The Ecclesiastical War finally comes to an end, with Monopharistite forces ultimately victorious, sending the Duopharistite heretics to exile in the southern reaches of Libera, and New Libera. Theophanus VI Belisarius inherits a corrupt bureaucracy, a horrifying national debt, and threats on all sides. His son, Nikaephoros Belisarius, threatens to make it worse, being a worthless wretch of a man. His solution: Legitimatize his bastard son, Cato Andromache Belisarias.

    Current day is 1356 LI.

    List of Dynasties:

~4200 LIA to 3241 LIA: Starting with Belisarion I, there was no specific dynastic succession. Transfers of power were either conducted by whoever could strongarm their way into power, or whoever the current ruler decided would succeed him. This would not change until Aetios II Lascaris took the throne in 3241, and started the Lascaris dynasty.

3241 LIA to 1492 LIA: The Lascaris Dynasty. This dynasty ruled over Livonia for the majority of the Classical Era, and for the most part kept the Empire on track, being mostly reasonably competent. Notable Emperors were Theoleptos VI Lascaris "The Builder", who constructed Theoleptopoulis, and Nikaephoros XI Lascaris "The Just", who put the entirety of Livonian Law in one single written down and simplified format. The members of this dynasty were known for either being destined for "madness or greatness".

1492 LIA to 1109 LIA: A series of military-supported men rise to the throne, and mostly squander their power, causing a decline in power. Stability was mostly maintained by the Patriarch during this time, and the role became more important during this era.

1109 LIA to 1224 LI: The Agapimenou Dynasty. This dynasty ruled over Livonia for quite a while, and quite well at first. Near the ending of their reign, however, they were notably heretical, and did nothing about the growing popularity of Duopharistism, simply choosing to brush it off to the side. Although effective and skilled at managing the Empire, they were beset by large amounts of nomadic and barbarian hordes, gaining no new territories and losing plenty of them.

1224 LI to Current Day: The Belisarias Dynasty. This dynasty is the one currently in power, and as is such, has a somewhat unstable position on the throne at the moment. Having inherited various social problems from the Agapimenou Dynasty, they have barely managed to hold on against the waves of unrest, social issues, and barbaric invasions that beset them almost daily.

    National Military:

The Holy Livonian Empire has a small (comparatively), but extraordinarily potent military force, mostly relying upon the old ways of battle but with some incredible inventions that enable them to win out (on occasion) against more modern forces.

The core of the army is the Acrites Domestikos, a combination Spearmen/Skirmisher who engages in battle with the enemy from afar before closing to hold them in position.

The Toxotes are mostly formed of Auxiliary troops from other nations who chose to live in the Empire, and use the bow to average effect against foes.

The Siege Corps of the Old Empire are rather renowned across the land for finding new and inventive ways of utilizing old technology to work as siege weapons. Instead of utilizing gunpowder, they have instead made a more rapid-firing Ballista, holding a "magazine", as it were, of 5 Ballista bolts that can be fired in rapid succession to use against enemy lines. Another favorite weapon is the Trebuchet, which can be loaded with any number of rounds, including diseased cows, giant stones, or even large pots of the dreaded Dragon's Fire. In addition, the Siege Corps is incredibly well-trained, with engineers and mathematicians enabling the Corps to make shots at extremely precise margins.

The elite of the army, however, are the Klibanophoros, considered one of the finest heavy cavalry forces in the known world. Rumored to have armor that even deflects crossbow bolts, and adorned with sigils of Theos, the Monopharistite God, the Klibanophoros are armed with a heavy mace, a great lance longer than the average pike, and a composite bow, in addition to being mounted atop well-bred chargers.

Another highly unique, rare, and elite unit are a unit referred to as Siphonatoritae, a closely-guarded secret and only brought out in times of great peril. This special unit harnesses Dragon's Fire, a special alchemical mixture that burns with the ferocity of a dragon's breath, and spews it out over the battlefield with a spraying device, causing massive destruction and demoralization amongst the enemy ranks. It is said that these troops wield the Holy Fire of Theos itself, although most dismiss it as rumors and merely call it a miraculous alchemical discovery.

Main Army: 325,000, 5% of Population
    Acrites: 150,000
    Toxotae: 100,000
    Klibanophoros: 35,000
    Siege Corps: 25,000
    Siphonatoritae: 15,000

Tactics generally involve a very traditional and well-trained hammer and anvil approach, taking advantage of the Klibanophoroi's great speed and versatility to attack an opponent from multiple flanks while the Acritae hold the lines.

    NAVY:

The Navy of Livonia is focused entirely around the Dromon, a Galley-type ship that mounts a special weapon deadly to just about any ship on the sea. This weapon is an alchemical mixture, Dragon's Fire, known only to the Livonians (And how other countries would pay to get this!) that burns with a great intensity, but remains floating on water, allowing them to burn other ships with impunity, or create a literal wall of fire across a sea. They also have multiple other ships, generally borrowing from the Galleon design.

120 Dromons, armed with Dragon's Fire

An exceedingly important part of the military is, surprisingly enough, its defenses. Due to extensive building programs designed to make Theoleptopoulis impregnable, the Empire's remaining land is extremely well fortified, able to withstand horrendous sieges with little to no ill effect. Indeed, the Konstantinian Walls are of such size, such grandeur, that many consider them a Wonder of the World. Even the greatest of siege weapons would find them hard to pierce.

Everyone please, higher populations. . . Sometimes lower populations are just as unrealistic as higher ones.

    Mannda Munna
    Full/Official Name: Mannda Mundanna

    Shortened Name: Mannda

    Demonym: HHuh?

    Capital: Manda
    Population: Approximately 12 Million

Language(s): Manda, Khmandi, Hekuna, Mayananaan (Maya)

    Demographics:
    Nearly 100 percent Human

The population of the country is huge since it's an Empire. Historically the Incan Empire was 12,000,000, and I'm going off those numbers. Should be higher since an Egyptian river based society is included, but everyone has tiny populations.

Racial Description: Humans are Human, obviously.

Racial History: They consider themselves one true race. Oddly enough, centuries ago before they were an Empire they all hated eachother. Many centuries later, they all rightly consider themselves natives. First, the Islanders overcame as an Empire. Each ethnic group had their Golden Age, and now, these days they are in an era of cooperation as one race.

    Racial Advantage:
Centuries of integrating eachother's cultures and magical traditions, in addition to agricultural riches of the River based society (that I deem "Egypt"), in addition to the lost arts associated with some of the listed cultures, allow them to have an extremely rich cultural heritage. They can assimilate others into their culture easily and are agriculturally rich.

    Disadvantage:
They are isolated from other nation states and political entities. Long ago neighboring countries that weren't nomadic or isolated were destroyed from plauge, famine or natural disaster. As a result, contact with outsider nations wouldn't be pleasant. Not necessarily catastraphic or war-causing, but it would take getting used to having another entire sophistic culture being on the same planet. As a result of being surrounded by tribes and nomads, in addition to being the only "Nation" around, they have developed a "Middle Kingdom" kind of attitude. Not good for diplomacy.

    Government: Imperial Monarchy

Head(s) of State and Government: Pharoah Honnar ((Of mixed descent))
Pharoah Honnar is unusual for a Pharoah. He doesn't live in the river Kingdom that was for having "Pharoahs'. He does, however. live on a rather large island territory that serves as the capital for the Empire. He is 30 years old, and has reigned as a strong Pharoah ever since the age of 20.

Religion: A mixture of deity worship, something like Buddhism, and ancestral worship.

    National Flag:

    History:

1,700 years ago, the region in the world known as the Mannda Munda Empire was split into countless Kingdoms and cultures, and tribes. Eventually, the most unified tribe, a massive Kingdom in the sea, an Island known as Munda, came and conquered the divided tribes, Kingdoms and cultures of others. Rather than force them to adopt their own culture, they simply assimilated the others into their own. For four centuries, the Munda ruled until the other cultures became strong enough to fragment the Empire. Each culture in their turn replaced the other and ruled for four hundred years. Finally, the present Dynasty is of mixed heritage and has ruled for 100 years, hoping for their dynasty to be eternal.

    National Military:
400,000. Currently, the Empire has needed an enormous army in order to fight the constant barbarian raiding, razing and pillaging.

    NAVY:
Some sailing vessels are employed, although they know how to fight Naval battles with nothing but Polynesian style canoes and crafts.
