Under the ruins of a complete civilisation since long tattered and destroyed, a new world has begun to grow, one of darkness and at most dim light shining strong through the dust of the many structures once towering up from the surface... No one knows what is the surface anymore though, the rust of what was once a florishing world is all that remains, the large towers of stone and the grand design is but a scar on the planet.
No one even knows what is like above the clouds of dust and the world that is left in uncared for hands is shattered beyond repair, instead humans try to survive on what is left and it is indeed a harsh world.
"Hurry Enivid, we are almost there..." a young boy, around ten years of age, shouted to his dog and indeed the small dog cought up to him, the boy who called himself Everai. The boy ran over the old ruins of stone and rubble, the sun shined through the thick brown mist and it colored the world around him alike. Everai was really excited, it was the first oasis of water that he had seen in days and water, though it excisted was hard to come by if you were not a climber and if you where, you had to be good at it and Everai was never good at climbing to those wicked places in order to get the water.
Throwing his bag onto a fallen pillar of stone Everai shined out of happiness as he threw himself into the water, wetting his tattered cloths and whatever color they once had remained in the same color as the dirt of this world, except for a few spots of course and perhaps his cloths once used to be out of a blue-ish color. Its leather reinforced elebows and knees did much in this world when it came to climbing and it was just fine like that.
As the dog jumped in aswell Everai got out of the water and checked the bags for his water containers, some wooden or iron made, others made of good hide and started filling each of them up. Everai mostly had bottles in his bags as water always ment life, but except that he possessed a small knife, some good fire making stone for the fine occassions of finding enough of untoxicated lumber of course a little bit of this and that was also in the bag along with torn tattered cloth to use for any injury. Everai was really happy for this occassion, just an hour ago he thought he might have to start crawling further down the ruin in order to find enough of moist, but further down also ment more dangers. The sky was as it usually was, towers leaning towards each other like a thick leaf forest during autumn. But it was around evening as the pillars of the sky casted its shadows in an easternish direction.
The air was rather warm, but not enough to run around without a shirt that was sertain. Staying alive and warm was necessary, after all, in a place where a mere stroke of wind could turn into a fullblown storm in the matter of a second one always had to be prepared or thus, he got to learn about once a few years ago. Everai was a clever kid, a lone traveler since many months by now, well almsot alone, after all he had Enivid with him, but in a way the Everai was kind of fearless and courageous of sorts.
"Alright Everai, that is enough or your leg might turn squeeky again." Everai told his dog kindly as it swimmed bad to dry again. It had not taken long but Everai was finally done filling his resource of water up aswell as drinking some for himself before started to move again. It mattered little that resting right now would feel good, but resting near a place of water could mean bad buisness, especially for a young boy like Everai.
Thus they carried on through rubble and dust, rocks and old tilted buildings laying astray in chaos. Enivids right leg indeed squeeking slightly, that old substitute leg was really, making a scene at times, a scene for the ruins mostly, but sometimes for nearby predators, nearby food or nearby company. "I told you so Vid..." Everai said with a sigh, using his usuall call name for Enivid. In the matter of perhaps, two days or so Everai and Enevid would finally reach the place they where moving for, that is, if they had moved in the right direction so far, a town called Stormántia, pronounced Storm-Ántia. Finally, I can't wait... We have to be so close now. Everai thought as he readied his camp in some natural shelter of an old structure. Thin dim, dim blueish light illuminated a spot on the ground of the structure through a window, it was faint as any but there and it helped Everai to feel safe...
"Good night Vid.", the comment had but a doggish yawn in reply as Everai shut his eyes, thinking excitedly for a while on what to do in Stormántia until slowly falling asleep.
A slow sluggish yawn was heard in the grey room that has been Everais camp for the night that has been. Naturally Enivid was already up and it was partially why Everai had woken up as Enivids leg was still making that squeeky noise.
"Good morning Vid..." Everai greeted his dog and sat up to drink some water from his bottle. It was whilst he was taking sips from his bottle that he noticed something was different near Enivid, whom was sitting down nearby another figure whos siluette was there next to the dog.
With sun behind, what seemed to be a her, she appeared rather mysteriously to Everai.
"Good morning..." She greeted, a half weak voice, a tad bit timid it seemed but it non the less had Everai withdraw his appearance behind his blanket moving closer to one of the walls inside, the space which felt alot more confined with her in here. Though passive Everai tried to make her face out from the light that faced him, only letting a small "Hi." escape his lips.
It was then she slowly moved closer to him, out of the light from the so called morning suns cover, revealing her appearance. Soft ivory skin, a kind and gentle face with green eyes, light pink soft lips and red hair in a pasch cut with seemingly shaved up neck was the face that he cought of her.
From what he saw she seemed kind, a bit older then him, about fifteen Everai guessed. "What do you want?" Everai asked her straight and a bit less passive now that he could see her.
She gave away the faintest smile, but appeared sad and unsertain as to greet Everais question and for a moment she took her time to just sit down, with her left cheek towards Everai, just the same angle she had when he first got the look at her. By now Enivid moved towards that young woman and was kind at his approach, this made Everai feel alot more calm about her being here. "Do you want water?" Everai asked when finally recognizing, she... Lacked some cloths, she had a trash cloth of sorts to cover her hips and below, but she was bare chested but covered in some kind of paint.
Everai could not help but blushing abit and soften up on her, she seemed so harmless. "What happened to you?" Everai asked kindly and reached for the bottle of water whilst giving her his blanket, "Here... Take this." Everai offered as she quitely accepted his gifts and wrapped the blanket around herself.
"I am Helena, what is your name?" Helena asked the boy whom sat before her, "I am Everai, and that is Enivid or Vid for shorts.", Everai replied and guestered his hand at Enivid. Helena smiled faintly but quickly lost it again leaving Everai ever so confounded what the matter with her was, if she was okey? where she came from?, but Everai had to take it easy as he would hate to scare her away.
Everai got back to packing his belongings, as Helena seemed to drink some water and pet the dog abit. "Where are you going Everai?" Helena asked as softly as she did. Everai stopped for a moment and looked at her before replying, "I am heading for Stormántia... Where are you heading?".
His reply had put her silent it seemed and her head sank abit, "I don't know Everai..." she replied, it appeared she was hiding something but Everai, smiled perhaps she could follow him and Enivid, but that thought was a hestitant one, though she appeared nice so far, how could Everai know for sure? Besides, he had met kindness before and it had left him sooner or later, why wouldn't she do the same? Then again, some more company, even for a short while wouldn't hurt, would it? "Do you, umh, want to come with me and Enivid?" Everai asked continuesly securing his things to the bag.
Helena did not reply to the question and it seemed she was thinking about it and she remained silent, leaving Everai completely clueless so Everai made sure he had everything and got ready to leave. "You know, you can stay here if you want to and if so you can keep my bottle and the blanket... You seem like you need them." Everai told her kindly in a last attempt to draw her with him, but Helena just sat there in silence so Everai swalled a chunk of his hope and looked at the opening to carry on for Stormántia, "Wait." Helena gasped, "I, need to think some more... But incase I want to find you... In what direction is Stormántia?" Her voice so frail once more, Everai facing it with a smile however, "It is that way, north-east... Sometime you can see a large ivory ruin afar, if you see it, walk towards it and you will find Stormántia." Everai said and took his first step out today.
Though the weather was as it had been yesterday, there was a breeze today and it had Everai thinking of how cold she must have been last night and further thoughts on where she came from got to him.
For one and a half day of travelling that was all he could think off, about her and with some hope remaining on ever seeing her again kept racing in his mind for him. It might have felt abit cliché, but Everai was like that, he had always been, even when he was trying to stay tough.
"We could reach Stormántia this evening if we want to Enivid..." Everai said, but sighed, he was exchuasted and his water was low, he could use the rest as the past two days had lacked alot of sleep for him.
Each step closer to Stormántia felt grand and so close to the entrence of the home of many Everai realised that he was approaching something of a grand hall.
"Halt!" A well built man said to the young boy, "Show me what you got in that bag." the man demanded, a guard of Stormántia he was, tall, well plated with scrap metal of past armors to cover his body. Everai did as the man demanded whom roughly picked through Everais stuff.
"I am just a traveler..." Everai said, the guard realising the kid had just come alone grimashed roughly with his nose, "Yes a young boy at that." The guard pointed out and Everai knew where he was going, "I learned how to survive by my older sister... She had to take another route on the way here, three days ago we seperated ways." Everai explained, his eyes very convincingly aiming to look what he was doing as if tought what and where he was to go. The guard was suspicious and it seemed that he was about to reject Everais statement when another guard walked up to him, "Let the boy pass..." the second guard stated to the man who had stopped Everai before whispering something to him.
The first guard nodded in understanding and simply opened the gate, "Very well then, you may pass."
Filled with joy but not lost to the way of fools Everai and his dog hurried into the entrence hall and carried on for abit until reaching a pillar to rest by.
"We were lucky there Vid... But why his change of heart?" Everai asked his dog and sighed. But the thought had yet to find an answer and Everai knew how important it was to let be, instead of burrying himself in troubles he had yet to find more clues about. It took a while for Everai to get up on his feet again, this town, smelled more then the air did usually, but it mattered little to Everai, there were plenty more people than he had ever guessed there would be in such a place as Stormántia. Infact it was probably the largest amount of people he had ever seen.
The entrence hall would reach about a mile and worked as a shelter or suburbs to many of those who could not afford to find a place to sleep and it looked as a place of much trade a low grade of happiness was felt amongst many, it was a small ember in the world they knew, but somehow misery had a grip around the people in here aswell as most would feel outside and the small difference was safety, or so Everai thought himself.
In the entrance hall it was rather dark, like walking in a medival village at near night. Nearby some of the fires Everai could see cloaked men and women cooking their food, it seemed kind of as poor as outside and many appeared to be slightly sick, coughing and alike.
Some of the fires had blankets spread out with good for trade and other seemed far more depressed then others. Few of the people appeared desperate for a trade and tried to lure Everai near they trades, but Everai was no fool, he had what he needed and it was enough, even if a blanket would not hurt that much.
Small tents of many forms and shapes was lined up in the Entrence hall but afar he could see something to reminded him of a dawn, the light from outside and into the real Stormántia. But when Everai had managed to push and climb through towards outskirts of this suburb he was met with alot of disappointment, as the Stormántia he thought would be so great just continued on the same as it had inside the Entrence hall. It was a small class difference between here and there but it was very much alike.
It was time to realise that he had to find a place or space to rent and rest again. It was then a small flash above him flickered, followed by a incredibly loud thunderclap. The blast from the thunder above had the so ground of which he stood shaking ever so slightly and this was very new to Everai.
The thunderclap echoed along the walls and pillars of the town or city if you would call it that for a moment but slowly thinning out until near silence reached his ears. Appearantly it had shaken many of the people in the city briefly but soon people started walking again.
It was then the sound of what seemed to be a great march reached Everai, slowly getting louder, louder until Everai reacted lightly at a water drop hitting his face and then another... And another and with in seconds the rain was pouring down as if a godlike bottle had been tipped over, washing down on him and the people. It was rain as rough at it could be and it almost stinged to get hit by a drop in this weather.
Now running confused and slightly scared with Enivid in hope of shelter, Everai gazed and dashed through a few blocks of tents until a woman finally found him, "Come here boy, take shelter in our tent." her voice as bright as an angels through the rain cought Everais attention and looking shortly at her Everai stopped hesitating and ran for the tent. "What a weather!" Everai panted and tried to gain his breath. "Quickly, off with those cloths... You will get cold." the woman greeted him pulling of his shirt and pants before sweeping him in with a blanket. "There." she said and bluntly walked towards the small fire inside this, rather large tent, "Want something warm to drink?" She asked, not yet introducing herself or asking for Everais name.
Everai was enchanted, what kind of person was this? he questioned himself as he looked at her brown long hair and thin face.
Stormántia was alot more then Everai had ever imagined and despite the struggle that seemed to reign here he had found shelter inside a female strangers tent.
A flash of thunder lit the inside of the tent with its bright flashing light, casting shadows over the tent wall, "M'am I'd be delighted to have somehing to warm my throat and hands with..." Everai kindly said as he curled up beside the fire inside the tent. The womans big eyes looked upon Everai, "You are really just a child... Boy, where do you live?" she asked with a soft voice.
Once more Everai hesitated and decided to stick with honesty, "A small camp several miles from Stormántia... Infact many months away..." Everai said lowering his head, "A far away place... With no hopes, no dreams... No family." he elaborated until he fell completely silent for a moment as the women sympathicly watched him and as she gasped for air to answer his statement Everai got to say a word "Except my sister who is lost out there in the world of course.", his words longingly after the sight of the girl he met a couple of days ago, "And yeah my dog Enivid, but I usually call him Vid." young Everai introduced himself finally done with his share of the talking.
The woman had poured a cup of warm tea into a clay cup and handed it out to Everai, "There you go child, it might be a bit hot but it will soon cool down." she explained and looked at the kid, "My name is Celia by the way and you are welcome to stay for as long as the rain pours young man." the woman finally said after a moment of silence and sipping out of their cups.
"Oh yeah, I am Everai... Nice to meet you Celia."
Once again the tent fell silent and it was now that Everai finally started to look around, it was a fairly large tent when looking at it from the inside, it was devided into 2 rooms, probably one for sleeping and privacy and the other one for guests such as Everai and Enivid.
The fire was of course place under a mounted pipe which cought the smoke and vented it out without letting in water... Such clever ideas these tents and boy did Everai wish he had a tent like this at times, for all those very cold nights out in the ruins and for all that is worth calling something his own home.
"Do you live alone in this tent Celia?" Everai asked, she replied with a nod, "Yes I do Everai... There are, well, bad men out there and I prefer to not live with anyone like that... Of course, not all men are bad, but it is hard to find one to truly love..." she spoke to Everai whom nodded and smiled, "Well, I bet that when you find someone you like, they will have to be a feel to not find you attractive.", blunt but honest, the woman was rather attractive in a grown up sense, she had light curves and an innocent face, not many would deny her beauty.
Celia blushed, "Thank you child..." Celia replied and giggled to herself, "I already don't regret helping you Everai, you are the sweetest kid I have ever seen." She spoke, having Everai blush aswell, "Well, I am glad too." he replied smiling under the blanket. "Take a rest kiddo, I'll wake you up when the rain has stopped." Celia offered as Everai silently agreed to her offer and cuddled himself onto a furry carpet placed underneath his feet.
Celia soon started hymning a melody to Everai with her kind and fine voice soon putting the kid to sleep.
