I haven't really fleshed either of these out too much, but I have a ton of ideas for each of them and I'm more than willing to draw up some details if there's anyone interested in playing. I'm specifically looking for 3-4 dedicated people, so keep that in mind. And now, jumping right in
1. Set in present-day Earth (Ie the way everything is right now), city TBD (open for suggestions). One day something shifts and suddenly some people have the capability for magic again. This magic is based on the elements (earth, fire, air, water) as well as the way that those elements blend, each practitioner can have up to three elements with one always being primary. The more elements they have, however, the weaker they are over all. (so, you can be awesome at only fire, or you can be good with water and air, or you can be ok with air, earth, and fire, ect). In order to channel these powers each potential magic user (wizard? witch? not set on what to call them) will get a familiar...so the premise would be you're going about your normal day and all of a sudden your familiar wanders up to you and speaks into your mind. My idea is that the animals are connected to your type of magic, most familiars would be wild animals not cats/dogs/ect.
2. On a far away planet there is a dark and violent culture where your wealth and status is determined by how well the best fighter you have in your stable does in the Pit, a fighting ring. Anyone who has any dream of becoming powerful as to find a way to climb to the top of the pile and succeed. Everything rides on a few crucial choices.
/dramatic voice over, lol. Ok, really though there's a few ways I could see running this, but here's the basis. The Pit is a crevasse with spectator seating lining the edges, there are holding pens ringing the pit at ground level where the fighting dragons are kept until it's their turn to fight. When two dragons are released they fight until one submits, and the winner moves up in the ranks. If the loser survives, which isn't always the case, they may be retired as a breeder or they might be released into the wild so their owner doesn't have the expense of keeping them any more. One way this could run, in general, is that we would all start as stable-boys at a large dragon stable. Each of us has worked hard, or gained favor in the eyes of the lord in some way and he has given up the chance to raise our own dragons up to fighting prime and then fight them in the pit. There would be training fights, strength and obedience training, as well as the normal interactions between competitors. I'm thinking there would be some sort of prize for the pair (master/dragon) who did the best, but haven't thought further than that.

Me too! I've got one other who's PMed me their interest, but I'd prefer at least one more...that being said I'd be ok running it with 3 dedicated people if you'd still be up for that.

What would you do if tomorrow a wild animal walked up to you, wherever you were, stared straight into your eyes and spoke into your mind. He would say that you had within you the potential to become a Voice of the Earth, someone who could speak for the world you live in and learn to use your new skills to protect her.
Would you use the strength of your mind to overpower your new familiar, make them teach you to harness the power and use it for your own gain? Would you willingly accept the gift you have been offered and hold your head high as you started on a new journey of exploration? Would you run, screaming, to hide in a dark closet and rock while you sang quietly to yourself?
The possibilities are limitless, but what is certain is that everyone will react in their own way and those who choose the path of protection will have a battle on their hands to try and lead their fellow humans onto the path the earth desires.
*note* Keep in mind this is one possible way things could go, and I'm open to suggestions. That being said, the main themes of familiars, elemental magic, and real-life reactions are here to stay
