Meanwhile...
Grant didn't care that Paul was leaving in fact he did not even notice his only thoughts were on the GN-X in front of him. "Tell me young man do you have a name? I'd like to know whom I am fighting. I haven't seen a soldier this passionate in a while." came the enemy pilot said as he pulled out his beam saber and blocked Grant's anti-ship sword in a weapons lock. "Why should I tell you shit!? Fine I'll grant you one request as a captain to a captain! I'm Grant Nimitz and I'm the man who will avenge his comrades!" Grant proclaimed as he forced the GN-X to a stalemate and pushed backward and opened fire with CIWS due to him lacking any other weapon worth noting at range. The shots were easily dodged by the fast machine however Grant was no slouch. He was a ace only a handful of years into his military career! He wouldn't let this old man show him up! "I'll make sure you suffer!" Grant said angrily. "You killed my friends too young man while I didn't know them well we were still comrades! So shape up and control your emotions! Grant Nimitz huh? Well I'm called Sergei Smirnov of the World Federation Forces. I'm interested in seeing how a man from other time line fight!" Sergei declared as he returned fire with a GN rifle Grant barely dodged. It was clear that Sergei's machine was better and the only chance Grant had, and the only reason he had survived this long, was because he had youthful reflexes and stamina behind him along with the help of his Lieutenant. "You're machine is outdated but you handle it well kid." Sergei praised him which only made Grant angrier as he charged at Sergei with his sword dodging left and right as GN particle shots barely missed him. "Interesting..." Sergei commented as he once again was forced into a weapons deadlock this time however Grant used his CIWs at point blank and damaged the unit's main camera via shooting it in it's 'eyes'. "Would you shut up and fight me!? You're an enemy not my tutor! Gotcha!" Grant declared as he pushed back the GN-X and got an edge over it as he was about to cut it clean in half but the unit moved out of the way and instead a GN Claw smashed into Grant's shoulder damaging it and nearly destroying the arm but Grant cut off the manipulator and pushed backwards. "You almost had me there...to think that pilots like you existed. Tell me boy are you a super soldier of some kind?" Sergei asked Grant who's response was to fire once more using his CIWs which missed pretty badly. Grant tried to move his left shoulder but it was clear that he was now forced to hold onto his sword because the arm was almost non operational at the moment. The one time I wish I had phase shift armor... Grant thought to himself as he decided to respond to Sergei, "I don't see why you're acting like this old man. Fine though if you want to know I train extensively all day when I can! But I am not a coordinator, or a super soldier, very few of those are in the alliance. I'm a natural born human being as far as I know." Grant said as he once again charged at the enemy who flew backwards and shot at Grant who this time was ready for the attacks. He dodged to the right and down to the left taking damage as he tried to fight the older man. I'm not going fast enough! Fine one last charge then! Grant decided blinded by anger he pushed his unit's power to full and went full throttle towards the man who kept firing at him. Grant took shots and lost his right leg, nearly was shot in the cockpit, and finally took half of his main camera off but he managed to get close enough to swing his sword and he did. "YOU'RE MINE!!!" Grant declared as he swiped at the unit with a diagonal slash...and missed. "Fool boy!" Grant's eyes widened as a GN Beam saber cut his unit's manipulators off and the golden unit fell from the air after GN-Vulcans hit his unit's flight system damaging it but not destroying it. Grant closed his eyes and was prepared for the worst but...he noticed he was not falling after two moments. Well not at a tumbling speed at least he looked at his camera and found the gn-x had saved him as well as defeated him..."You're a good fighter kid I'll call this even this time around. Come back later with a better machine and we'll settle this fair and square. I won't hold a grudge about the men who died today but neither should you." Sergei dropped Grant to the ground after they were at a safe distance and flew off. Grant sat there stunned at what just happened and Axer's voice rung hollow in his ears as he was unable to fully comprehend what just happened. "That old son of a....why didn't you kill me?! Why?....I'm a failure..." Grant said as his alarm started to ring signaling the Sundown to pick him up. Grant said nothing more and did nothing more but just sit there and contemplate his failure.
