Hey guys. Give me your poor, your mangled, your dilapitaded and shoddy-- Nah, I'm kidding. The purpose of this thread is to help bolster my small supply of material for a fictional Science Fiction universe that I've been making for a year or two now. I have a forum set up for the explicit purpose of collecting and organizing this information, whether it's about scraps of a job application or a Combat Drone, or whatever, really. The purpose of the forum isn't to RP, but to create a world so that I can have all this cool stuff for my real life DnD play. But then I thought, hey, places like RPG forum might be able to use this stuff too. I put two and two together, and sha-bam. Here I am.
Right now, all the 'legit history' is old and I need to really revise it and actually finish it. It's very open ended, and really, the world is literally so big that almost any of your stories will fit into it. The real cruncher is the fact that-- and this is one of my only 'rules' for the world-- is that there are no truly sapient aliens around. That shouldn't mean anything to you. Don't change what you were initially gonna contribute; even if it's not actually there, it's still fictional, and it's still important to the setting.
What are you trying to achieve?
Yeah, I think a lot of you will question my goal, but really it's to enlist the help of fellow roleplayers to create a broader scope on this world. I'm a big advocate for collabotory writing. If I were you I would literally rip off your posts from a past RP and just spit them here, and we can just say that the scraps of the rest of the logs/stories (A.K.A. everyone elses posts) are still out there, somewhere. Since it's not cool to copy paste other peoples posts without their permission. That just sounds awkward.
Why would I do this?
Dunno, you're probably bored and waiting for SOMEONE to post (yeah, you know what I mean!) or you think this is pretty cool, I'm not you so I wouldn't know. What do you gain out of this? Well, it gives you a reason to look back, maybe be a little nostalgic over your older works, the stepping stones that got you here. And those become useful, at least to someone, in the future. I think it's worth sharing. And plus, if anyone wants to do an RP based off the stuff here, you can 100%, even without my permission. There's my permission to do it without my permission. Sweet, huh?
Also, I don't encourage you to make an account, because, well, I'm posting on this forum right now and that'd be really uncool. If you really, really want to, okay, whatever; you can post your stuff up yourself if you want. But for convienience, you can just post here and I'll throw it up there with credits to either your username or whatever you want me to OOCly address you as.
So, things I'm looking for:
- Short Stories, even if not especially unfinished ones
- Forum Posts (only yours unless you have permission from others) even if fragmented
- Poems; doesn't have to be about the future, but probably shouldn't take place blatantly in the past
- Music. I make music, I'm going to be making a section for different cultures styles in the universe
- Art: I suck at visual art, I'll love you if you'll make some artwork for the world
- Profile Histories; if like, they make sense to be put onto paper as a report
- Ideas; just throw 'em in there and I'll either scavenge what I can use or use it entirely
- Gun/Armor ideas; Guns and violence are a big part of this world. You know your character profile has 'em!
- Product ideas; from Food Paste to hair dryers, this world needs brand names
- I'm probably missing something from the list, so if you figure out what, post it up!
Catagories will be added to the actual forum itself as I get material for them.
Also, pretty please with sugar lumps on top, input information as opposed to critiquing this concept. It lives on even without RPG, and it doesn't need copious reminding that 'this project will fail'. It's meant to enhance and give people like me and anyone else a huge, open ended universe where ideas are as variagated as they are in real life. It's experimental, I know, I'm an experimental dude (TMI). If you really, really want to critique or praise or whatever, just shoot me a PM and I will respond 99% of the time. I know that more than half of you wont do that, but at least I'll be able to say that I said it, for what that's worth!
Sweet, I look forward to reading your stuff!
