I actually struggle the most on personality, because to me a personality doesn't truly exist, it's all subjective to a situation, and who there with and where they are and all sorts, and what mood their in, I mean, I can't exactly put human as the only word to describe personality, so I tend to just bullshit the whole damn thing.

Eugh. Character sheets are my absolute most hated part of roleplays. What the shit is the point of explaining character quirks and flaws in pretty much dossier format when it's so much more entertaining and sensible to reveal that information in-character via scenarios or dialogue... Which is why I don't RP any more.

I quite prefer the minimalist approach to sheets and organic development.

What's up with the history of a character anyways?

Doesn't that kinda make the other rp'ers in the particular rp know what to expect from your character?

Why not develop it throughout the story instead?

This is exactly what I do! The few times I tried to run a roleplay all I wanted was name, age, height, description/picture and then boom! Off to the races!

... or you could just have them write the CS. Same amount of writing. It also forces people to think about their character more, which I think is a good thing. If the CS isn't somewhat interesting to read, the character's not that good.

But I'm just used to character sheets. Habits die hard.

My main problem with CS's is that it has me create the character before I use them. And usually, once I start using them, I realize that I want to take them into a different direction in terms of history or personality, but can't, because I already locked myself in with a CS written purely to fill out the CS.

AKA, I like evolving my characters and fleshing things out as I go along and see where they need improvement.
