Lark loves music and feel the most alive when she is playing on the piano. Lark is very prim and proper but she do not demand that others should be, she is soft spoken and polite but very determined. Lark is badly affected by how her mother treated her after she saved the woman with her wish and at times Lark will slip into a dark, brooding mood, and she often have bouts of melancholia.
Bio: Lark is the daughter of a Japanese business man and a British socialite, her family where more than well to do and Lark never wanted for anything growing up. Lark's father was often away on business so the young girl grew up with her mother for the most part and lived with her in the family estate near London. Sophia Hashimoto did not send her child away to boarding school like many in the English overclass did so Lark grew very attached to her mother, she loved her father to but for most of the time it was just her mother and herself, living together and forming very strong bonds.
Lark early discovered a love for music, she was talented on the piano and by the time she was fourteen she had held two concerts. Both of Lark's parents wanted her to continue with her musical career, become a famous concert pianist, but the young girl herself dream of becoming a policewoman, she knew that she was growing up in privilege and she wanted to give something back to society, Sophia and Jiro did not like that their daughter did not want to have a career in music but they did support her choice and was proud of her for it. Lark did continue to take music classes though as she loved to play the piano and music lived in her soul.
All went well in young Lark's life up until a few months before her fifteenth birthday, she had many friends, did well in school and there where even a young boy that she liked, then Sophia was diagnosed with cancer. For one and a half years Lark's mother fought against the illness which slowly consumed her, but none of the treatments worked and eventually the doctors told the Hashimoto family that Sophia was going to die. Lark was devastated, she loved her mother over everything in her life and now she had to watch her die.
Lark was sixteen and a half the night Sophia Hashimoto should have died, the woman had slipped into a deep coma and the entire family was gathered around her in the hospital, at one point Jiro asked if he could have a few moments alone with his wife and Lark wandered up to the hospital roof to be by herself and weep over her mother. The young girl do not know how long she had been on the roof choking on her own tears when a small voice spoke to her, the sound seemingly coming from within Lark's own head.
"If you could have any wish fulfilled, what would it be?"
Lark looked around but there was no one on the roof with her, then suddenly she saw the small white animal, at first the young girl thought it was a rabbit or a cat but something did not add up, the creature had red markings on it's body and two golden rings levitated around it's ears, Lark was quite understandably terrified.
The animal presented itself as Kyubey and he offered Lark a simple choice to contract with him and become a Puella Magi to fight witches in exchange for him granting one wish, no matter what said wish would be. Lark was raised in a strict Catholic home and she recognized a Faustian deal when she saw one, in fact she was quite sure her mother would scream and call Kyubey a demon if she saw him, but what choice did she have? Lark asked the strange creature if he had the power to save Sophia's life and he said that he did, however he also warned her that wishes that benefited others had a tendency to backfire. Lark only hesitated for a few minutes before she agreed to Kyubey's deal, if this being could safe her mother she would pay any price.
Lark do not remember her first transformation, she only remember waking up on the hospital roof her father shaking her awake, the young girl was groggy but she noticed that on her right hand now was a new ring, an elaborate thing that seamed to be made out of silver with a bright ruby gem in the center. Jiro hugged his daughter and told her that in the night Sophia's chancer had made a full reversal, the doctors where dumbfounded they could find nothing wrong with Sophia Hashimoto the woman had gone from having one foot in the grave to completely healthy in one night.
Lark was ecstatic about having her mother back as healthy and strong as ever and at first the price she had to pay to make it happen did not seam that bad. Lark had often dream of protecting others and she could do that now as a Puella Magi better than if she had become a police woman, sure the work was dangerous, but it was rewarding and to be frank Lark found the magic kind of cool the girl had always been a fan of fantasy literature and now she got to live it, to be a magic user herself. Yes in the beginning all was fine and Lark continued to be happy, she could even almost put how much her new fluffy friend reminded her of old tales of demons tempting mortals out of her mind, but then all fell apart.
One night Lark came home from one of her nightly witch hunting escapades, it had not gone well and while she had managed to defeat the witch she was hurt and tired, off course the wounds would quickly heal, one more of Kyubey's gifts, but not before her mother saw them. Sophia had suspicious that Lark was somewhat responsible for her miraculous discovery and now she pressured her daughter until she told her everything. Sophia did not react well to learning what Lark had done, the woman was a devote Catholic and she now believed that her daughter had sold her soul to the Devil, right there in the family's kitchen she denounced her daughter and said she wanted nothing more to do with her. lark felt her heart break and the first inklings of despair entered her soul.
Jiro tried to reason with his wife but Sophia was adamant she felt that Lark had robbed her of her place in heaven when she used her wish to heal her. Jiro off course had no idea what his wife was talking about. Sophia became more and more hateful, and one day when she had Lark in the car she tried to kill them both by ramming the car right into a brick wall. Lark was badly wounded but she survived become of her contract, Sophia was not so lucky. Lark ended up loosing her mother anyway and in a gruesome way and with Sophia hating her in her last few moments, right there Lark Soul Gem turned a little darker.
Jiro could not stay in London, he could not stay in the city where his wife had killed himself and tried to kill their child so he took Lark with him and moved away. Lark now go to a new school and she is trying to pick the pieces of her life back together. Jiro is trying to be a good father but his work is constantly keeping him away. Lark now lives in fear of what others will think of her if they figure out what she is and she has grown nervous and reserved. Lark still find meaning in hunting witches, she is protecting people, but she have begin to question more and more who Kyubey is and his motivations, but she dare not dig to deep in fear of finding that her mother was right and that her new benefactor really is a demon from hell and that she have sold her soul to him, life for young Lark Hashimoto is not that easy anymore.
