    (S:ARG)-007: Night Lance [OOC]

Dr. Arista Wallace walked slowly, assuring that she did not slip on the sealed concrete floor. The Level 4 suit she wore was fully encapsulating, and though the bottoms of the suit’s feet were lined with rubber traction strips, the awkward shape of the plastic could never be fully trusted. In her hands she held a sealed tray containing specimens of one of the most deadly pathogens known to man; Zaire ebolavirus, or more commonly, the Ebola Virus. It always struck Arista when she dealt with Level 4 pathogens that she was manipulating a virus capable of wiping millions of human souls off of the planet. Though the prospect of such a disaster was terrifying, she took solace in knowing that she was shrouded in the redundant security measures afforded by the Defense Science and Technology Laboratory. Nestled inconspicuously outside the city of Porton Down, England, the compound was like all Biosafety Level 4 facilities, virtually impregnable.

She reached the protective hood enclosure and set the tray of virus samples within it, sliding and locking the tray in place within the device. With the virus now fully enclosed she was able to remove her hazard suit, and she moved towards the decontamination area to begin stowing the suit. She made it halfway across the lab when she heard the explosion, muffled and distant. It was such an alien noise to her that she cocked her head within the suit slightly, her brain attempting to provide alternative explanations for the new stimuli. However when the second explosion rocked the laboratory, much closer and exponentially more violent, her mind could reach no other conclusion. She began to shuffle as quickly as the cumbersome suit would allow towards the decontamination area just as klaxons began to sound, accompanied by the bright staccato of red strobe lights. She again froze, this time just inside of the doorway to the automated decon showers. The lights were flashing red, not amber, and this meant that there had been no pathogen leak. It meant there were intruders. Her pulse skipped a beat at this realization and she shuffled fully into the decon shower, a string of curses accompanying her.

Her hand found the large red button that activated the decontamination sequence, and she pushed it. Immediately her suit was deluged by potent cleaning agents that cascaded from multiple shower heads. Through the frosted glass of the shower area she tried to look out into the lab to see if anyone had made it inside. She prayed that she would see the gray and black uniforms of the DSTL security personnel, but the lab remained empty for the moment. The shower heads ceased, their cleansing cycle complete, and Dr. Wallace began moving towards the “green” exit of the decontamination area. That is when she caught a glimpse of figures moving within the lab through the distorted glass walls. For a third time she froze, fear rippling up her spine. She could make out three separate figures, apparently all garbed in deep black, moving amongst the lab equipment.

Are they screwing with the Ebola containment hood? She thought with icy realization.

Given their location they must’ve been, and she looked about in a quiet panic, searching for a means to stop the intruders, but no solution availed her. Another sudden thought gripped her.

    What if they see me?

She instinctively began to crouch, thoughtlessly trying to make herself less conspicuous. In the back of her mind she acknowledged that such a maneuver seemed utterly ridiculous; she was after all garbed in a bright orange biohazard suit.

The figures did not move towards her however, and after several minutes the trio evaporated out of the lab. Dr. Wallace waited, straining her ears for any sign of the figures return. Hearing none, she finally stood and flung open the door leading into the green area of the lab. A scream rose from her throat as she was greeted by a tall man dressed in obsidian fatigues and wearing the ugly mask of a full face respirator. His left arm was stretched out towards her, and in his gloved hand she could clearly make out the pistol that was aimed directly at her face. The man regarded her a moment, his gray eyes looking with calm curiosity down upon her. Without a word the man pulled the trigger. The small room filled with a resounding roar, and the once sterile walls became covered with blood and gore. With slow detachment the man lowered the weapon, and with one last glance into the laboratory, he vanished down the hallway.

    Mechanics and Rules:

    • This RP is based within the James Bond universe.
    • The intent of this RP is to end up with a complete 007 ‘novel’ of sorts when the SL is finished.
    • Since this RP is to play out like a novel written from the perspectives of the player 00 Agents, players will have a vast amount of control within the world, and they are encouraged to add significant plot twists and events that can affect not only their own character, but other characters as well.
    • Again since this RP is in the James Bond universe, players are encouraged to write with that theme in mind. For example the 007 series is full of unique and sometimes outlandish characters, from Jaws to Pussy Galore, and so keep that essence of fiction within your posts.
    • Character creation should also be influenced by this essence. James Bond is not a super-human, but he most certainly is not a realistic individual. As a 00 Agent keep in mind that your characters should possess this same level of unrealistic ability and aptitude.
    • Any player may utilize any of the recurring characters within the James Bond universe, except 007 himself.
    • This RP will possess mature themes, however all RPG rules must of course be followed.

    Name: Callum King

    Gender: Male

    Age: 35

    ‘00’ Designation: 009

    Appearance:

    Background:

Callum King was born in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. The son of a lower middle class family, Callum grew up as a young boy with the full intention of following his father into the family trade as a hunting guide and game warden. Both his parents however recognized that Callum’s intelligence and quick wit were suited for more grand a calling then the King family could provide. Lacking funds to secure a place for Callum in a prestigious university, his father encouraged him to join the British Military, and use the opportunity provided by the government to attend school after his public service.

Six days after his eighteenth birthday, Callum enlisted with the British Royal Marines. It was obvious from the beginning of his military career that Callum was a gifted soldier and leader, and after graduation from his basic training he was sent directly to the Officer Training Program. As a Lieutenant in the 3rd Commando Brigade, Callum completed two tours of duty in Afghanistan, in which he served with exemplary skill. It was during his second tour that his mother became ill with a rare form of Leukemia, and she subsequently passed away just two days before Callum was to return to England. Following his mother’s funeral, Callum’s father committed suicide by firing a rifle round through his temple. Reeling from the sudden and violent loss of his family, the Secret Intelligence Service—who had been quietly watching Callum during his deployments—swooped in to recruit the lost soldier as an agent. Callum accepted, and he filled the void left by his parent’s death with his work, again performing exemplary as a member of MI6’s paramilitary service.

At the age of twenty-nine, Callum was selected as a candidate for ‘00’ status by M, and he completed his requirements by the age of thirty. He was assigned the designation of 009, and promoted to the military equivalent rank of Major. It is in this capacity that he currently carries out his duties in Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

    Psyche:

Callum is an intelligent and fast thinking man, and despite his lack of a formal post-secondary education, he values the acquiring of knowledge and training highly. From his upbringing as the son of a professional hunter, Callum is patient and all together tenacious, and he pursues his goals with determination. If there is a disadvantage to his patience, it would manifest itself in the occasional act of hesitancy. This hesitation does not stem from a lack of courage, but a belief that a situation may develop further to favor Callum’s mission. Callum is also confident, generally soft-spoken, and very loyal. He is also unusually trusting for a professional spy, an attribute that has surprisingly not betrayed him thus far within his career.

    Likes:

Callum enjoys the outdoors and being active. Hunting, fishing, and backpacking are all common hobbies. He is an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction, history in particular is often at the top of his reading list. Coming from humble means, Callum appreciates luxury comforts, though he does not require them or pursue them with any great alacrity. He is also a fervent pursuer of women. Callum considers it a second form of hunting, and the more challenging a mark, the more he revels in the spoils.

    Dislikes:

Callum has no love for the institution of marriage or other firm social contracts. He abhors pop music, hipster style, and those whom he finds lazy or unmotivated to carry out their responsibilities.

    Skills:

Callum is an exemplary marksman with most forms of firearms. He possesses a strong innate prowess in hand-to-hand combat, and he is also a gifted precision driver. He is also very comfortable in harsh environments and survival situations. Along with English, he speaks Russian, French, and several forms of Arabic fluently.

    Disadvantages:

Despite often being surrounded by technologically heavy devices, Callum is not well versed in how these devices work, though he is proficient at utilizing them. He possesses little to no knowledge of computer hacking and other covert electronic skills.

Hey everyone! I'm currently in the trenches of finals week at Uni, so I won't be around as often as I'd like to be. If my responses are slow; I assure you, I am not ignoring you. Promise! I'm just super crunched for time, so please bear with me!
