As far as academic writing goes - don't get me started; I cannot imagine why anyone would ever, willingly, use that anywhere another than in whatever genre they deem worthy of carrying the word "academic" these days. However, if an university education teaches you anything then it is "question everything, trust no one", haha, but as I already mentioned in my reply to Kagamine my simplified inquiry was merely a request for additional sources, which you gave in the quoted reply.

University also teaches one to stop relying on their own opinion alone and rely much further upon others opinions, evidenced by relying on 30-40% of most essays being quotes of other writings. At least in some essay forms.

There's pros and cons to it, but I prefer having it and not needing it than needing it and not having it.
