    The Magic Thieves OOC

    INTEREST CHECK

    The Magic Thieves

In the mythical world of Lunea, there is a great Kingdom ruled over by a group of magical beings. It is said that in the beginning, no world existed; instead, there was a great emptiness from which the first God was born as a great sphere of light. This being was neither male nor female – such ideas hadn’t been thought of yet – but from this being sprung forth Lunea and magical children which would rule Lunea, her humans and her animals.

The first God was not a wholesome one; he yearned for excitement and drama. He created dark creatures with powers strong enough to rival Lunea’s protectors – Demons were created, and for many centuries they did battle with Lunea’s magical children who came to be known as the Protectors.
The Protectors never had the powers of their creator; they were no more than Demi Gods with an array of powers dealt out to them by destiny. Protectors were not immortal; not unless they had been gifted with the power of immortality. The Demons came in all shapes and sizes; whichever horrors the imagination could summon, and every so often a Demon was powerful that it would require many of the Protectors to kill it.

Over time, the Protectors and humans came together to build a kingdom which was reasonably named Paridisia – for the kingdom became a Paradise which was shaped by the Protectors over the centuries, filled with glorious temples, scenery which defied the laws of nature, luxuries beyond imagination and a great magical wall which surrounded the entire kingdom.
The Demons could never enter Paridisia – in the rare event that some could manage to slip through, the Protectors combined their powers and swiftly brought them to an end. Paridisia would always be safe as long as the humans and Protectors of the kingdom remained united.

However, the past two hundred years haven’t been easy. The latest batches of Protectors aren’t very powerful and the Demons seem to be slipping through into the kingdom more and more; a few protectors have died putting a stop to the grotesque hordes. More than a few humans were murdered or abducted by the creatures into the wastelands beyond Paridisia – into Hell.

There have been humans rioting against the Protectoral Council; the most senior Protectors throughout the Kingdom chosen to rule the land. This is because certain Protectors don’t believe they should have to use their powers to protect the humans nor risk their own necks for them; instead, they live in luxurious homes whilst the humans descend further into decadence and poverty.

There is one way for the humans to take control of their land from these Protectors. An underground movement is gaining strength as well as the attention of the Protectors; from the poverty of Paridisia has risen a Thieves Guild. They have stolen many great treasures from the Protectors themselves as well as the most wealthy humans; but they wish to steal the most valuable of treasures, the Protectors magic.
To do so, they require a Protector to die or willingly pass on their powers to a human. This has stirred the Protectors up enough for them to go on a witch hunt against the Thieves, but with Demon attacks coming thick and fast, will this solve anything?

    The Races

    The Humans -

The Humans of Paridisia far outnumber the few Protectors despite the majority of them bowing to their will. However a few realise that being human does not mean being helpless; Protectors can be killed by mortal hands and a few realise this may be what it takes to save the land from the Demon hordes. These few have banded into a Thieves Guild which operates throughout the land in many secret places - behind waterfalls, beneath city streets, even within aristocratic mansions. Although some refuse to kill the Protectors, there are those with the power who are willing.
It should be noted that to join the Thieves Guild isn't a choice to be taken lightly; the Guild is comprised mostly by vicious humans who have grown up in poverty and who yearn for power and revenge. You're more likely to get your throat slit than you are to steal a Protectors magic.

    The Protectors -

These are usually the offspring of other Protectors and the latest in a long line of those who are tasked with fighting the hordes. Not all Protectors are corrupt; some try and help the humans out of poverty, although in small numbers they lack the influence to do so. As well as this, lately the Protectors haven't been born with great magic; in the past there have been Protectors who could breathe jets of fire which could consume entire hordes but lately they have received far less useful powers; turning water into fire or being able to speak to camels. Many of those who have received useful powers refuse to risk their lives for the human masses and have renounced their titles as Protectors for an easier life, calling for the humans to protect themselves.

    The Demons -

The last couple of centuries have been more favourable to the demons than any of those in the past millenia. Destiny has been kind to the Demons and many have grown to be great, powerful monstrosities capable of coordinating with lesser demons to form invasion forces capable of slaughtering hundreds of humans. Although most Demons are little more intelligent than animals, there are those with intelligence greater than a human and they are thirsty for human flesh and an escape from the Hellish wastelands.

    Geography of Lunea

Lunea is a vast planet but very little of it has been discovered through the ages; travellers are more likely to be snapped up by a five eyed crocodile outwith the city walls than find a new foreign land. According to Paradisian knowledge, their Kingdom is the only one in Lunea.

    The Ruined Cities

Paradisia was originally composed of four main cities before the building of the Great Walls.

Pulchritudo was revered as the city of beauty and is said to have had multi-coloured waterfalls which fell from high in the sky whose water ran between its beautiful silver buildings. The demise of Pulchritudo came when a powerful water demon found a way to open portals through water and let an army of Demons inside, slaughtering thousands of Pulchritudans. The city now lies to the South of the walls of Paradisia in ruins, submerged by demon filled murky waters.

Avaritia is the second of the ruined cities and lies to the East of the walls of Paradisia. Avaritia is known to be the city of the greedy, and the myth goes that the Avaritians were so greedy that they fought so much over wealth, food and drink that they eventually destroyed themselves. Nobody truly knows how Avaritia destroyed itself; the mystery still confuses scholars, as there is little evidence to explain much more than fierce battle within the city.

To the West there are great mountains which span the length of the Kingdom, there are known as the Eastern Mountains or the ‘nesting grounds’. The greatest number of demonic creatures are born in the mountains but little is known of the mountains as venturing even near them means a swift death for most; they are often surrounded by thick billows of grey smoke, indicating great blazes amongst the mountains. Between the Mountains and Paradisia lies the ruins of Avaritia, which are surrounded by many hills and grasslands making any raids of the city's ancient treasures difficult.

To the North lies Nox Forest; this forest is the subject of much dread to the people of Paradisia. It holds the closest demonic population and is filled with thousands of demons, some of which have the ability to fly and have been known to snatch humans from the slums of Paradisia into the forest. The forest is almost entirely completely dark even during day, hence the name ‘Nox’.
To the South are the ruins of Pulchritudo, submerged in a great lake of water filled with water demons. Amongst these are mammoth serpents which occasionally venture onto the banks to devour lesser demon prey and humans, as well as Merfolk with razor sharp teeth and scaly black skin.

    Name: Mentus Sithill
    Race: Protector
    Age: 58
    Appearance:

I think a picture is worth a thousand words, so here it is:

    Background:

Mentus was born to a family of heroes, warrior protectors gifted with great strength, endurance, and other such powers. House Sithill were one of the more valorous families, always striving to do their duty, and protect mankind. They were not very influential, however, and lived a relatively modest living, particularly compared to the less scrupulous houses.

He was born to Argus, who could turn himself to stone, and Andrenia, who spoke to animals of all kinds. He did not present any physical signs of powers throughout his childhood, although visitors found him to be chilling and disturbingly cynical for a young boy. His mother died soon after his birth, killed by demon assasins, while his father never returned from his quest to avenge her. He found himself as lord of House Sithill, a boy yet to display any powers. However, one day, when the captain of the House guard decided to murder Mentus to steal his powers, he found himself ambushed and killed by loyal guardsmen, as the boy had detected his murderous intentions and acted preemptively. Mentus grew up to bring great fortunes to his house, but he was feared and hated by his human subjects, whom he extracted an exorbitant amount of gold in taxation.

Skills: Cunning, a good negociator, a decent swordsman.

    Abilities:

Mentus can sense people's emotions and general intentions. He cannot read minds outright, but can tell, for example, if someone wants to kill him, feels guilty of something, is afraid, and other such things.

    Recent history:

Currently, Mentus is putting down a human revolt, as well as trying to convince the Council to take a harder stance against the "undesirables" of society.

Great application but the Thieves only recently learned powers can be stolen so his mother couldn't have had hers taken. Just edit that out and it's accepted.

Very fitting, a Lannister as a Protector; I can see the sense of smug arrogance from a 'human' perspective. Though images of Charlie Dance always make me laugh, ever since I read "Charlie Dance can't f**king act" scrawled in a prompt book a few years back!
Hector: What art thou, Greek? art thou for Hector's match? Art thou of blood and honour?

Thersites: No, no, I am a rascal; a scurvy railing knave: a very filthy rogue.

Hector: I do believe thee: live.
