    Ok, plot opinions/help

Alright. I've got a new book I'm gonna be working on sometime in the near future. I've actually got several that I'm working on but this one just popped into my head earlier today and I need some help with some plot issues. Or at the very least I'd like some opinions.

Basic premise is that some kids (two, perhaps three siblings) move to a small mid western town when their dad dies and they're shipped off to their nearest living relative, a great aunt or uncle (haven't decided) They're in town for less than two weeks when they start noticing all kinds of very strange things happening around the town. Strange like ghosts, zombies, monsters and so on and so forth. They try telling some of the adults in the town what they've seen and everyone just brushes them off or tells them that they're imagining things.

So they try to figure out what's going on themselves and try to stop it. Of course they make things worse instead. The twist I had planned is that just as it appears that everything is about to go straight to hell in a hand-basket it turns out that everyone living in the town that they have moved to is a professional ghost hunter or monster hunter or some other type of paranormal buster.

The speciic scene that popped into my head that inspired this entire story was the kids running into like their inglish teachers house yelling about monsters or zombies and the teacher trying to tell them that everything is ok. Zombies bust down the door and teach goes basically 'Oh you were serious about that.' then opens up a chest filled with swords and axes and crossbows and goes to town killing all the zombies.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly WHY the town is filled with paranormal experts.

I'm leaning toward two main possibilities but I am open to other suggestions

    1. They live there because it's convenient and the things happening are just the start of like a yearly tournament the townsfolk engage in. A who can bag the most monsters kinda thing or something like that.

    2. The town was built to specifically to gather paranormal energies and the townsfolk use it to attract and dispose of violent ghosts and monsters in order ot prevent them from spilling out into the rest of the world.

So any thoughts/idea/suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated.

Easiest way to figure it out is to focus on the most important part of the question. Why is the kids' relative living there? Assuming he/she is a zombiekiller like everyone else in the town, his/her reason for being there is the most significant, because it's also (transitively) the reason the kids are there, and they're the main characters. So once you get that part of the relationship sorted, the rest can just sorta fall into place probably -- and not everyone has to be there for all the same reasons, either, you could have like an "all of the above" answer. But yeah. The one that matters the most, is the one that matters to the protagonists.

    IMO.

I like choice 2, personally, but then again saving the world IS getting kinda worn.

I've been kicking the idea around with a friend of mine and we've come up with the idea of the town being built as like a training ground for future generations of monster hunters. the oldest of the kids plays a prank, which threatens to tear the whole town apart because his prank resulted in destroying the barrier that kept creatures of too much power from getting in, as well as keeping the rest from getting out.
