A wiki for RPers

I have recently started a project based around creative writing - it works in the same format as Wikipedia. The premise is that the wiki is about a fictional fantasy planet. Anyone can visit the wiki and contribute to it, and over time the planet will grow and expand as people add to it.

As of yet the wiki isn't ready for editing so I won't post the name or a link yet. I just wanted to test the water and hopefully stir up some interest. It's not role playing but I'm sure that a lot of you guys are fans of creative writing.

Any questions, suggestions, or just general interest, let me know

This sounds a lot like you have an idea for what is known in role play as a Persistent World if only with a slight twist in display. Realistically, you are probably going to find your time has been wasted. This is most unfortunate because despite this highly probable outcome you will still make an attempt. People may start adding various pieces of information but more likely than not the pieces add will have no direct influence over each other. Simply speaking, you will be competing the boards own Article and Character section for whatever reason you've decided to start this. By all means, feel free to continue on with it. I won't be one to deter you from such an endeavor. However, know that your efforts will probably be wasted.

thanks for the reply Dorian. I will, of course, continue with the project, but I will bear in mind that similar projects may have had little success.

Hopefully, a wiki format will keep the world tied together and consistent through moderators, a dedicated forum and cross-linking redirects just like Wikipedia does.

Using Wikia userboxes, tables and etc. would be really cool. I for one am Interested, but, as Dorian mentioned, it probably will fail.

As I mentioned earlier, the features that differ in a wiki from a forum will hopefully prevent it from failing. A wiki is well suited to this project.

The wiki is now fully functioning, once all the barebones pages have been added, a link will be going up (hopefully by this weekend)

Pretty much this. Let me give you an example, Skyeward.
Take elves, alright? Everyone knows about them. But, different people think of them in different ways. Some see them as the LOTR kind. Then there's the people who see them in the Harry Potter style, Eragon style, Artemis Fowl style, etc. etc. You get my point? Everybody would keep editing that page to reflect what THEY believe elves are like.

Ah, that's not quite how it works Firstly, it's not a fantasy world in the sense that it has elves, dwarves, dragons, etc. In fact, humans are really the only sentient race - we're taking a scientific mindset and the chances of two set ident races evolving is minimal at best. Any creatures a person creates will have no preconceptions to begin with.

Secondly, it won't really be in contributor's powers to change anything per se, only to add to the world. Only things which contradict the world will be changed, and these instances will be picked up by admins.

Since a while I have considered that it would be interesting to be an RPG wiki on the internet. I'm looking for it.
Though it will only include the RPs on this forum no?
If that's the case then I'll have to move my story here I guess.

Hey Asune, I don't think you've quite understood what the wiki is for (though your idea would also be awesome). The wiki would not document RPs on this site. In fact, it's not associated with this site in any way, I'm just asking here because people who use this site and the sort of people who would contribute to our wiki.

This wiki is just for you to build a world through creative writing. It's not actually an RP. This site is nearly ready for release (a little later than expected, sorry ^^) so you can see how it works.
