The Hand of Nocturne OOC + Sign Up

    OOC Open

In the Beginning, there was The All. A being both god and goddess, more, and neither, all at the same time. With it's immense power, The All created the universe. After it created the universe, it lapsed into a bored slumber that lasted several Millennia.

Eventually The All woke up, and decided to do something with the universe it had created. So it split itself into one hundred pieces, and let the fragments do the work. And so the Pantheons of the Good, Neutral, and Evil gods and goddesses were born. With their divine power, they created every aspect of the universe, and the world known as Malius. For a while, the gods were content to sit and watch their worlds unfold. However, Nocturne, the God of Evil, decided that he alone was worthy of worship. So he started a war.

This Started what was known as The War of the Divines. The war was long and brutal, and more than half of the gods died to seal the god of evil away. However, he was eventually brought down.

Eight gods sealed themselves into the cage to prevent the escape of the god of evil. Unfortunately, one was a traitor. Over the course of several millennia, he weakened the other gods. Eventually, almost 8,000 years later, he shattered the cage. Nocturne promptly killed the seven good gods, and split their essences across the world. Now his hand is reaching for the power and fear it once possessed.

A mage known as the Ghoul learned about the freedom of the God of Evil, and formulated a plan with his allies, The Lords of the Night. After a name change, the Hand of Nocturne moved out, spreading destruction and chaos for the sake of their lord.

And then, one day, the Ghoul found a ritual, one that would bring the god to the material world, in his divine glory. After much deliberation, the Hand of Nocturne decided to try the ritual. But first... They'd need to massacre a country. And what better country than Niverin, which has only ever been a thorn in their sides.

However, mortal soldiers are smart enough to realize that going up against the most powerful country in the world is a stupid Idea. So the Hand has built The Iron Armies, Ten Thousand Golems. They Feel no Fear. They Feel no Pain. They Need no Rest. And They Require no Gain. They are led by the Warmaster, a golem with the soul of a feared general.

The armies march, and the world trembles beneath their heavy footsteps.

Meanwhile, The High Council of Niverin learned of their intentions, and called for ten of the most renowned and skilled saviors currently in the land, whether they were born there or not. They had been chosen for a common goal...

Find the Essences of the Seven Gods before The Hand massacres an entire country. Should be simple enough, right?

    Niverin

There are many lands across the planet of Malius. Some are huge, like Ethmiru to the west, which takes up damn near a quarter of the planet. Some are tiny, like Shandevar to the southwest, a tiny country that is barely 50 square miles in diameter. There are rich countries, like Mavrefell, and poor lands like Varna.

However, none are more diverse, economically, geographically, racially, and so on, as Niverin. A land steeped in history. A land with soaring mountains and burning deserts, expansive seas of brilliant green grass and deep lakes of crystal blue water. A world of wilds dangerous and cities peaceful. A country covered in ruins of ancient times and relics of forgotten eras.

It is this amazing land in which the legend of the Sapphire Phoenix grew and died. This is the beautiful world that the Dread Empire tried to seize and rule almost five hundred years ago, stopped only by the strength of the Paladin King. This is the vast country that Kalanthas Qoral, the Legendary Sage, used magic unknown to the rest of mortals to stop one of the four moons from smashing into the planet, and send it back to it's proper place in orbit to stop the lich Anlagen.

This is the land heroes have been born and have died in.

    This is home.

    And now it's threatened.

    Pantheon of the Gods

By real life definition, Pantheon is the name of a circular temple in Rome dedicated to all of their ancient gods, such as Mars, Jupiter, Vulcan, Etc. The Pantheon, back in the day of these god's prime, was also dedicated to their worship. Back then, this was THE Church everyone went to on Sundays. Or whenever the Romans worshiped.

In Fantasy, Pantheon is often used as a grouping of Deities. For instance, all the Good Gods will be on one, while the Evil gods are part of another. Or they could be grouped by the realms they govern. For instance, there could be a Death Pantheon, Agriculture Pantheon, Sky Pantheon, etc. As long as it's a grouping of the divines, it could technically be a pantheon.

For the sake of a simple list, they will be grouped in Good, Evil, Or Neutral.

Umbra, the God of the Void*

    Character Info

Alright, so as long as your characters fit in the vague descriptions above, they can be whatever you want, within reason. Please don't even suggest playing a Demon Archmage, or a Troll Knight. I will ask you to change it after I finish putting a few holes in my desk with my forehead.

However, feel free to tinker with Ideas. If you want to make The Knight an Orc with a flail, go for it. As long as he believes in honor and justice, and is very well known for it, then I'm not too worried about the nitty gritty details. Try not to overlap the roles though. For instance, the Thief will never have been a convict sentenced to death, for the Assassin already has that down. So on, so forth.

If you have questions, just ask me, either here or in a private message.

I'm still debating between the lord and the assassin, so until I make my choice, those two roles are off limits.

Still undecided on what role I'll be taking if I do join, but I don't suppose you'll be making an interest check for this?

(Interest checks do tend to help...check...interest. Is it against forum rules to make and interest check after the OoC? If not, I say it's not too late.)

    Character Sheet

Kora's left arm is elongated and ends in a dragon's talon, which he is surprisingly dexterous with. He has two massive, red scaled wings which he can use to glide. He can fly with them if he is unburdened, but only short distances. He has a long, scale, muscular tail, which he can use as an extra limb, though he is not very skilled at doing so. He has patches of red scales all over his body, intermixed with orcish skin. His tongue is forked.

    Name:Kora the Dragon
    Role:Knight/Lord
    Race:Half Dragon/Orc
    Age: 24
Physique (Height/Weight):He stands at six feet, five inches. He's roughly three hundred pounds.

    Approach to Life (Personality):

    "All of life's a battle!"

Kora sees all things as a challenge, and thus throws himself bodily into every task. He is no mindless warrior, however, and in fact sees intellectual battles as more important than physical ones, often-times. He's brave and bold, able to conquer his fears in times of crisis. He's highly religious as well, worshipping Bahumat, though he actually pays respect to Tiamat as well, seeing the necessity for a dark counterpart to the God of Good Dragons.

He enjoys any chance to improve himself in a skill he enjoys, whether it be writing, music, battle, hunting, games of strategy, mathematics, knowledge, or art.

He holds honor high in his heart, and feels that lying, sneaking, and deception is wrong on all levels. His mother's ancestors would boldly declare their intentions during battles, and his father was a very honorable warrior among his kind, so this is rather natural.

Kora is surprisingly gullible, though this personality-trait was tempered a bit during his years outside of his home. Even hard-won wisdom hasn't eradicated his gullibility, however.

Kora finds it funny when people assume he's a fool due to his brutish and horrid appearance, and usually plays along for a bit at those times.

Kora's heritage contributes heavily to an extremely short temper. He has gained some control of it, but Kora still struggles to remain calm when things happen that hurt his feelings.

At his best, Kora is brave, highly intelligent, tactical, hard-working, charismatic, passionate and loyal. He will save you from great danger at great risk to himself, ask for no reward, and then go off to do more good deeds or improve himself.

At his worst, Kora is angry, foolish, single-minded, pig-headed and cruel. He will be fooled into some grave danger, place those he cares for at risk, and then uselessly roar about the situation like a giant buffoon.

Approach to Combat (Fighting Style):Kora wields his ancestral weapons with great proficiency. Mainly he will use his bow to disable, incapacitate or kill foes from a distance. When a foe comes up close, or he is otherwise required to, he will use his massive ancestral blade to crush and maim enemies. He prefers to use his bow since it's a lot easier to surgically stop a foe from a distance than it is to carefully and non-lethally incapacitate them with a giant sword.

When he fights with his sword, he will make great use of his draconic heritage. He will trip foes with his tail or his oddly formed left claw hand, or even beat them or defend himself with his wings. The horns on his head aren't just for show either, though he won't resort to biting with his fangs unless in extremely desperate times of crisis. This last part is not due to viewing it as dishonorable, but because most enemies TASTE HORRIBLE. Evidentally blood and sweat and dirty skin isn't his cup of tea.

If he goes into a berserker rage, that goes out the window and he swings his sword like a madman. As he is not good at harnessing his anger, this usually just allows others to easily outsmart and defeat him. Luckily, he usually keeps his cool in combat situations.

He is horribly vulnerable to magical assault, due to his father's heritage, but also knows a lot about magic and the weaknesses of various types of mage.

He is weakest in enclosed areas, as his weapons are difficult to wield in cramped spaces and he lacks a shield to defend with and must dodge whatever his armor can't stop.

Life's Journey (Bio):Kora's mother whom he was named after was an orcish hunter of great fame and skill, a known slayer of great beasts such as gryphons and salamanders. She wielded her ancestral weapons and wore her ancestral armor well, and never forgot to bring them with her on a hunt. Eventually, she learned of a powerful draconic mage named Gerudigal, who claimed to be the mightiest fighter in the lands. Kora Sr. did not take well to this boast, and set off to prove him wrong.

When she found him in his lair, she saw that he had taken the shape of an elf. He invited her to stay for dinner and rest before they battled, and she complied, respecting his honor. She grew doubtful that this was in fact a great dragon, and voiced her complaints. He exited his lair and took true shape, reverted to elven shape, and then they continued their dinner.

The next day they battled, and Gerudigal barely managed to defeat Kora Sr, by taking dragon shape and flying into the air to cast spells from above. Though she found cover and shot arrows at him, eventually she was knocked unconscious by a concussive spell, and he lowered himself to the ground, barely having survived the struggle.

He nursed her back to health, one thing led to another, and Kora Jr. was born.

He learned much from both his parents, at first endeavoring to be a mage like his father. However, he somehow lacked the power to use magic, despite his draconic heritage, and decided to follow in both his parents' footsteps. Like his mother, he'd be a hunter and honorable warrior, a protector of the innocent and a slayer of evil.

Like his father, he'd be a scholar and scientist, as well as a musician, poet and artist.

He traveled the lands for a while when he turned 18, and was met with fear and hatred by many due to his horrifying appearance. Over five long years of struggle, he built up his reputation as a hero, and from there was entrusted with increasingly great tasks. Now, a decorated warrior, Knighted honorarily by many nations, he is given an even greater task than any he's ever had before.

With a prayer to Bahumat, he sets off, to bring honor to both sides of his family and save thousands, possibly millions of lives from the Hand of Nocturne.

Armament (weaponry):He has a massive two-handed sword and equally massive bow, both a gray-green color. Most men cannot so much as lift the sword or draw the bow, but he has no trouble with the cumbersome tools and wields them with skill. The bow, as one might guess, can shoot an arrow with a lot of force, and his massive sword is actually a greater weapon for crushing things than most axes or hammers.
Protection (armor):He wears a full suit of armor the same color as his weapons. It was modified from his mother's original suit. As it had to be lengthened, it is slightly thinner than before, but is still very good, if heavy, protection. The helmet allows him to hide his rather horrifying face from others, though it has holes in it to allow his horns through.
Arcane Ability (any magic):None, at all.

Other Possessions (Gear):He always carries a backpack with a sleeping bag tied to it. He carries a flute, ocarina and lute with him at all times, as these are his favorite instruments. He also keeps plenty of parchment and paper on him, just in case inspiration strikes him and he has to write, draw, or compose something. He always keeps a rope and grapplehook on him, just in case any hiking needs done.
Anything Forgotten? (Other):The helmet takes a moment to remove or put on, due to his horns.

Kora is very sensitive about his appearance, as it was pretty much the reason he had been hated by most who met him until he finally proved himself as an honorable, good and kindly knight. However, he's not at all sensitive about people assuming he's an idiot, as stated earlier.

    Kora eats a LOT. He's a big man...dragon...orc...thingy.
