2nd Annual Graphics Secret Santa

Hello, RPG members. Squee, Lillian, and Genkai are here to invite you to the 2^nd Annual Graphics Secret Santa, a gift-exchange for the visually creative members of Roleplayer Guild. Last year, we began the Secret Santa with a moderate turn-out and it was a lot of fun to participate in. If you have never played Secret Santa, it is very simple to learn. Everyone who joins in will fill out a Request Form, a sheet asking you to lay out what you want as a gift. After a certain amount of time, everyone will receive a different Request Form that has already been filled out. No one will know who the signature will belong to until the every signature/set has been given out. It’s a bit difficult to explain in just a paragraph, but we can assure you that it is a very fun and rewarding experience. Whether you own a Graphics Shop or just dabble in the art every now and then, continue reading the guidelines below and join us!

The way this works is anyone who wants to participate should fill out 2 request forms (an extra in case the artist has a hard time with one, put your preferred one first) and PM it to Squee. We will then randomly assign the requests to the other participants so that everyone who enters will make and receive a set of graphics anonymously. The deadline for the Requests is the 8th of December. The Sheets will be sent out by the 10th so that people have plenty of time to work on them before their due date on the 20th when they need to be PMed to One of us who will then send them off to their recipient by the 21st. Everyone who participates will make and receive a set of graphics. We will also post them in this thread for all to admire and maybe play at guessing who made which set.

Graphic Type: Signature, Avatar, Both
Size:

150x150 or 100x100

Text: May be anything but your username. Or nothing at all.
Image: The image/images you want to use. Bigger is better.
Theme: What colors/theme/feel do you want. Vague, I know but it helps and is optional.
Border Type: Would you like part of the image to pop out, be sectioned or maybe a rough outline? Frames?

Remember to send 2 forms to give the gift-maker options!

Artists are welcome to disclose what set they made after the fact. Remember, no telling which set you made ahead of time, the anonymity is half the fun. If for some reason you are not going to be able to complete a request, please let one of the organizers know so that arrangements can be made.

Oh, thanks for the clarification. I was wondering what would happen in the event that a desired graphic turns out to be too difficult for an artist to work with.

Below are a series of questions that people could possible pose which have been answered, if you do have a question that hasn't be addressed please post it here and we will be happy to clear up anything that is confusing.

Q: Do I need a graphics shop to participate?
A: No you do not.

Q: Do I need a certain program to participate?
A: Use whatever your heart desires.

Q: Why is this happening???
A: Because it's fun and spreads a little cheer around. It is a way to get to know fellow artists, promote new faces and do some good for someone else.

Q: Why the anonymity?
A: We don't want any bias to be had when making graphics, that is why Squee is helping us maintain and delegate who fills what request.

Q: Do I need to use the graphics someone made for me?
A: Well it would be the polite thing to do. No one likes making something only to have it tossed aside. A suggested period of use might be at least a week but no one is forcing you.

Q: So I can request a SIGNATURE and AVATAR set? Or just one?
A: Correct.

Q: Should the artist put his or her own initials on the artwork before finishing it?
A: If they want, it's up to the individual.

Q: Does my request have to be holiday themed?
A: Not at all! You can request something with dogs in hulas skirts if you want. Anything.

Q: If I'm not sure what I want, can I just leave an area blank on the form?
A: Sure, though it is best to give some guidelines at least, such as a picture or description.

Q: Is this an official Contest?
A: No it's not.

Below are some hints and notes that might be useful for anyone entering who needs a little advice:

• Large high quality pictures tend to be easier to use than small ones.
• Deadlines must be followed, if you miss a deadline we will not make exceptions, however Squee, myself and Lillian will try to remind those participating via PM near deadlines and with posts in this thread.
• If you must drop out for any reason, please let us know.
• The best place to look for images depends on what you're looking for, make sure if you're using something from DA that you get the artist's permission.
• Once this event is over, Squee can reveal who had what in this thread if she wishes.
• If you submit two different requests, make sure you're happy with either one being filled.
• And finally this is a creative event so please have fun.

It would be extremely helpful to title your PM as "SS Request Form"; however, that is not required.

Go for it! I'm so excited to see what people do with this. I didn't participate last year because I wasn't doing graphics yet so I was psyched when I was asked to help out this year. Now I need to go fill out my forms!
