Alright, but why are we using bullets as a currency? I mean, do we have so little of them that they are considered rare?

To be more precise the game uses military grade rounds as currency. There are two kinds of bullets: reloaded(aka dirty) rounds that are produced within the metros; and there are military grade rounds of which there are increasingly smaller quantities of because they were salvaged from military convoys and other installations, and people tend to fire them when they need better stopping power. In other words pre Apocalypse production versus post apocalypse production. the MGR are more powerful than the metro made dirty rounds.
