Why does he think he needs somebody? No one needs a lifelong partner, as much as one might like one. No one deserves a lifelong partner, however with 6-7 billion other people in the world there's bound to be someone that fits any one given person.
Happiness is not something that has conditions or prerequisites. One doesn't have to go through a checklist of things that they need to have to make themselves happy. Happiness can potentially come from all things, provided that one enjoys them. Happiness, I believe, is what is gained from the willful sharing of one's life with someone or something else and love is the desire to share one's life with someone or something else. Neither of those say that they come from "the One" or "the Calling" or any one specific thing or a set of things that all people need.
