((When I mention him playing music in the post I'll put a link up for you to listen to. You only really need to listen to the first minute or so of this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2U24-tI8Uhg ))
The moon was high in the sky, casting a strong yet eerie light over the sleeping city of Ferena. The high wall surrounded the city, built some time ago to protect it from the war that raged on the word outside. An uneasy peace had descended upon the city, but everyone was aware that their peace could be upset at any moment. Farmland spread out around the greater city but during this quiet night something was about to upset the delicate balance that the city had cast upon itself. Upon the top of the wall a small shadow perched, gazing out at the town before him.
A single, pure, pure note rang out through the silence of the night, echoing around the place where music had not been heard for so many years that it had been all but forgotten. Then, once the echoing had faded a flurry of note followed it as the music of the flute rang out in the night, rousing many from their beds in alarm, fear gripping them at the strange noise. It lasted for barely a minute, but it had been there and its impression left. The shadow stood and leapt from the wall, landing silently upon a nearby rooftop and descending into the streets.
Soon enough the sun would rise and people would wake from their beads and begin going about their day to day activities and he was interested to see the result of his work.
The night was dark and cold, but still peaceful and quiet; well, far too quiet. Christina, the daughter of the king, wasn't sleeping unlike many. Rather, she was awake, sitting by her window as she stared outside, her pale blue eyes observing the peaceful city quietly, the protective walls that covered it, the farmlands that rounded it and the tall towers with guards that were half awake yet still paying attention to alarm incase anything happened. A yawn escaped the blue haired girl as she closed her eyes briefly, she wished something would happen, but the city was always so quiet, it even looked deserted during the night.
It was then when a musical note was heard. It was strong, different and to Christina, unheard. She had never heard such thing, but it was... amazing. And what followed was even better, a flurry of hasty, powerful notes that awaked even the ones in their deepest sleep. Many seemed confused, some even scared, but Christina was enjoying it, in fact, her lazy sleepy eyes had open widely as she seached for it's source, but... a minute after, the sound ended, leaving a tingle of disappointment in Christina's mind. She remained awake for about thirty minutes, expectingly waiting for more, but nothing was heard again. She decided to sleep, though she slept with a soft pleased smile in her lips.
The next morning, she had a rather average day start; after bathing and properly dressing in a richly looking blue velvet dress, she walked to her father's quarters. The man sat across his throne, his crown shining upon his head, and several badges were found across his robes, clearly a sign that he had been a powerful man even before he took reign of the city of Ferena. In front of him, a guard was kneeling himself, supporting his weight with a fairly well sized spiked lance, his armor seemed new and polished. "M'lord, the citizens have indeed heard it, and those who did not, were told by those who did. The children imitate the sound with their own voice, and it seemed to cause quite an effect. What are the orders?"
The man closed his eyes, exhaling a soft sigh. "For now, tell the people to stop making mention of it, and... Tell the guards to seek and capture whoever was the cause of that. " The words seemed to surprise Christina, her eyes widening slightly. Why? She thought to herself, if she had enjoyed it, possibly many people did... Rewarding the musician would be a better idea, to her. But she wouldn't question her father's decisions.
[[ Are we skipping a week forward now? Also sorry if my post wasn't all that good, I kind of had to rush it since I have to go! ]]
The streets were alive and busy the next day. Damien walked amongst the people of Ferena, his ears listening out as pretty much every conversation he overheard seemed to be about him and his late night escapades from last night. It was odd to him, to hear people speak so... fearfully of music. They sounded afraid. They sounded like they didn't even know what music was, some of them at least. He clutched his bag tighter to his side, glancing around somewhat nervously at the thought of what could happen to him if he were to be discovered. Still... He wasn't even sure these people would recognize a flute if they saw one. What could he convince them it was otherwise? People were scared and they often tended to react with anger to things that scared them and that they couldn't understand.
It made him all the more cautious however. Over the course of the next week he operated mainly at night, stealing what he could to keep himself going, sleeping outside under the stars and basically trying to get as little attention as possible. However, barely seven days later his fingers were practically itching to play again. Music was a part of him, forcing himself to hide it and not play was practically a form of torture. He was almost twitching, both with anxiety and from being unable to play his flute.
It was driving him crazy, absolutely crazy. And people were still talking about it! Not so much as they had been, but there were still whispers, people thinking maybe it had been some kind of bird or that it was indeed a man but one who had been crossed with a bird somehow and had the ability to sing as they did. Basically the stories were out of control. Oh how he wanted to reach into his bag and pull his flute, shouting out that it was just music and question what on earth was wrong with these people.
But he knew better. He also knew that the guards were on the lookout for him, that the king wanted him captured for some weird reason. The next thing he knew he had walked straight into someone. The boy stumbled back and landed on the ground, his bag hitting with a strange ‘clink’ sound and the tip of his flute falling out of the top. Blinking in surprise when he felt someone grab him roughly from behind, haul him to his feet and tell him in a rather menacing voice to watch where he was going. "I-" Damien's eyes fell to the girl he'd bumped into and then to the man restraining him. A guard of the palace it looked like. Panic flooded his system and with a sudden jerk he elbowed the larger man in the stomach and took off running down the street.
During the week, Christina couldn't take her mind off the sweet melody she had heard that night. It's exciting sound... She had spent several nights awake, awaiting for it to repeat, but it never happened, much to her disappointment. Today, she had gone for a stroll around the town, calmly walking around the streets, she could hear the strangest rumors about the sound's origin, most of them making little to no sense, at all. It was nearly frightening how the people spoke so fearfully about the unknown music, was it truly so strange? And if so, why Christina enjoyed it? Perhaps she was an oddity.. Or perhaps they are simply blin-... err, deaf. She thought, distracting herself for a moment when...
Something walked straight into her, or the other way around. She felt back on a sitting position, opening her eyes slowly as she noticed the boy who had bumped into her. He was blonde, not quite tall but not small either... but something else caught her attention. An odd, pipe-looking object was laying on the ground, what was that? Slowly, she redirected her gaze to the boy, and to the guard who was behind him. The man grabbed him by the shoulder, and Christina already raised her hand, about to command to guard to let go when the boy suddenly threw na elbow to the guard's stomach, running off quickly after. That reaction and that odd looking object... It wasn't hard to put the points together. Was he the cause of that music from a week ago?
As she stood up, she noticed that the guard had already recovered from the blow, and was now sprinting after the boy, shouting to other nearby guards as about three of them started to run after the 'ruffian'. Christina couldn't help but mentally question why he attacked the guard in such desperate manner... had he kept quiet, they wouldn't go after him, and she herself wouldn't put the knots together either... She could only hope that he wasn't caught, but if he was, she'd probably have an opportunity to talk with him. Glancing down, she noticed that his flute was laying there, and quickly grabbed it, putting it away in her bag. ((Not sure if you're okay with this part/if you intended to have him run away leaving it back, just tell me if you'd like me to change it!)
