    Forever and Always

It was a good and nerve racking feeling to finally be back in Mystic Falls. Leaving had always been the ideal thought. Going off to college, living in a big city, that had always been her dream. At least that's what Lauren Chaffer had thought. Moving around the age of ten had been exciting and she had tried to make the most of it but she didn't care for the big city life. At least not as far as New York went. It was to cold during the winters and way to busy all the time for her liking. Not being able to really drive was absolutely horrible to her. It made her miss her hometown Mystic Falls. Where she grew up had been nice and peaceful. Plus it made her miss her friends. Particularly Kristen since they had been kind of close growing up. It probably would have been clear to her why if back then she would have known about her being a witch and that her friend was one as well.

Not to long ago Lauren had really come into her powers and learned all about things that most people didn't know of. Unfortunately for her she had no clue of the happenings and that she was walking right into something she probably didn't want to be apart of. At least she was able to enjoy her time back for the moment. No one knew she was coming back and she kind of doubted anyone would remember her. Well maybe Kristen would be other than that she doubted anyone else would. Somehow she would try and see who all still lived there but for now she wanted to check out some of the old places. Like the Mystic Grill for starters.

Taking a breath as she stood before the place she wondered if it had changed at all. The afternoon wasn't to chilly as she was able to wear nothing but her jeans and black blouse. Quickly before changing her mind she walked in the place. No one looked particularly familiar to her but then again she didn't expect to recognize anyone since the last time she would have saw them was when they were nine or ten. Taking a seat at one of the empty tables she tried to not look like such a 'new' person.

    ~~

Things had certainly changed dramatically in a very short amount of time. After Elena Gilbert had killed that hunter and managed to live through the crazy side affects she took off with the Salvatore brothers to who knew where. He was glad the hunter was dead. More than once that guy had tried to kill him. Though during the funeral it was his own fault since he had taken the bullet so everyone wouldn't take the bait and turn around at the smell of blood and then everyone who was a vampire would have been found out. At least the guy was dead but now Jeremy was said to be some potential hunter.

Tyler Lockwood doubted the Gilbert male would actually be a hunter. All he was interested in was finding this supposed cure so he could turn his sister Elena back human, which was something she would really want if she knew it were possible. Trying to be a good friend he had agreed to help even though he wasn't sure how they would find this cure since there was no more hunters and the hunters had some invisible tattoo map on them. Somehow he would try to help though even though he really had no clue how.

At the moment there really wasn't a whole lot to do. Everyone was either at work or not doing anything fun. Tyler had decided to go shoot some pool at the Mystic Grill and was playing anyone who would go against him. If he was a gambler he might make a good bit of money. At first he hadn't noticed the new person in the room until after Jeremy went over to take her order. He was a bit curious but seeing as how word would spread around quickly anyway all he would have to do is ask Jeremy or whoever else spoke to her if he truly wanted to know anything. And really, as of late new people in town meant no good so he was kind of already biased and thinking she would be nothing but trouble for his friends or even himself.

Kristen stood in her backyard. She was tending to her garden, something she did often in all the spare time she had. After pulling weeds out from the ground and watering her flowers, she went back inside. She took off her gardening gloves and tossed it in the bucket with a bunch of other gardening tools and such. Sighing, Kristen poured herself a cup of coffee, keeping it black, just how she liked it, and went to sit down. After watching a little bit of TV and finishing her coffee, Kristen went upstairs to take a shower. While the water was heating up, she laid her out some clothes for the day. She was running low on food and household supplies, so she had to pick some things up. Luckily she was off work today. She was a clerk at the grocery store. They didn't pay much, but it was money regardless. After laying out a pair of jeans, white tank, and a low cut light blue sweater.

She stripped down and stepped in the shower. The hot water that hit her relaxed her tense muscles. After washing and lathering her long, soft blonde hair a couple times and washing her body with Cherry Vanilla body wash, she rinsed all the left over soap off and switched the water off. She grabbed a towel she had hanging on the rack and dried off before wrapping her hair up in the thick towel. She then tied her silky red robe around her figure and rubbed her face. She didn't get much sleep last night, her dreams were filled of nightmares. They were ones that were jumbled in a big blue, she couldn't make sense of them, and they filled her mind all day. She brushed her teeth and after rinsing the toothpaste out and spitting it back in the sink, she gurgled some mint mouthwash and went back in her bedroom.

After untying and slipping out of her bathrobe, she put on her undergarments and then slid on her jeans. They were a little tight on her hips and she frowned, but managed to get them on. She then out her on some cherry blossom deodorant and then put on her tank and sweater. After she was fully clothed and had on her dark brown boots, she dried her hair and straightened it. After her hair was done, she put on some neutral make-up and grabbed her jacket and purse and the keys to her Altima before heading outside. As she drove to town, she had hundreds of thoughts swarming in her head. For a few years now, Kristen lived alone in her small home, but she didn't mind much. She wasn't exactly the outgoing and party type. She was more like a recluse, and since she lost her dad in the explosion not to long ago, it only made her even more cautious about being around people.

She had been practicing her powers, not as often as she should, for a few months. She knew and realized she had them at an early age, but as much as she tried denying her powers, they were there and she knew they wouldn't go away. Before she knew it, Kristen was parked close to the Grill and got out. Looking towards the Grill, she spotted a familiar face. Narrowing her eyes, she walked inside, and instantly knew her childhood best friend. "Lauren!" Kristen exclaimed, walking up to the girl. It was really her, it had been years since she last seen Lauren, before she moved to the city. The next couple months were hard for Kristen. She did lost her best friend, the only person she could trust. Lauren could relate to her, seeing as how she was also a witch. Kristen wondered how Lauren had managed with her powers and other things.

Niklaus wondered aimlessly around his manor, half a bottle of scotch in his hand. It hadn't been that song since Elena Gilbert left with the Salvatore brothers. It was after the hallucinations from killing Conner ended. Klaus still wanted to get that cure, he wanted his hybrids, and the only way to get those hybrids was the Patrovia doppelgangers blood, which would be Elena. So while she was a vampire, she was rendered useless to him. Hayley walked up to Klaus and he just stared at her. "What can I do for you, wolf girl?" He asked, putting on a sarcastic half smile. "While you're here, drowning in self pity, Jeremy is out there doing who knows. He's got the mark, which means he can get the cure for Elena." She said, pointing it out to him. "I know this already." He said, smiling at her and pushed the scotch into her chest. She grabbed it after a brief 'umph' and watched Klaus as he slid into his black jacket. "Where are you going?" Hayley asked. Klaus didn't answer until he was at the door.

He then looked back at her and just gave her a wicked grin. "I'm hungry." He was then gone and in his SUV. It only took a matter of minutes before Klaus was parked and inside the Mystic Grill. It wasn't as packed as it usually would be. He barely acknowledged Tyler as he took a seat at the bar, getting himself a scotch on the rocks. As he sipped on his drink, Klaus looked around. Many of the faces were familiar to him. Except for one, a beautiful creature sitting alone. She had to be new or passing by or just something. Just as Klaus was about to approach her, another girl came up and he rolled his eyes. He'd have to put the charm on whenever the girl standing up left. Being his usual snoopy self, Klaus listened in on their conversation. The girl sitting down was named Lauren. Beautiful name.

One of the workers there Jeremy came over for a moment asking if there was anything she wanted. Lauren had scanned the menu before and decided on water and some onion rings. Trying to drink alcohol wasn't something she was going to bother to do and really didn't need it at a time like this. Besides, she definitely wasn't a beer drinker and would try drinking anything except that since the taste disgusted her. Most people she knew in the city had agreed with her on that and only a couple distant relatives she knew liked it. Not more than a few moments after he left did another person come up who quote apparently knew her name.

Even though she looked older the way the girl said that made her know it had to be someone she knew well as a child. The first name that instantly popped in her head was, "Kristen?" She asked. "I had no idea if you still lived here or not!" She exclaimed and then laughed at how stupid she probably sounded. Now she felt a little more relaxed as she was talking to someone and not looking so new. It was kind of weird people would likely consider her a new face even though she technically wasn't.

    ~~

Tyler went back t playing his game and really didn't play attention any further. Well he didn't until he heard a face say a name that he didn't know and looked up knowing that had to be the new girls name. The other girl was someone he knew of but didn't know. He hardly ever saw her around and didn't think she was ever out much except maybe to she for necessities. Actually if he were honest half the time he forgot about her. But the reason as of late would have been all the horrible stuff that started happening since about a year ago. It was so easy to forget about 'normal' things. Even school had been hard since then.

He was kind of curious since that girl clearly knew this new girl. Had the one sitting down been to town before? But how wouldn't he or anyone else have seen her if that was the case? He had no clue but now he was curious about the two girls. Particularly the one he knew loved there but didn't socialize much. He would wait until they were done talking though before he possibly went up and talked to the one who he overheard's name was Kristen.

Kristen just grinned and nodded. "I am, even though I thought about moving several times, but Mystic Falls is my hometown, so I can't leave here." She said and when Jeremy brought her her food, Kristen snatched up an onion ring and ate it. "Still my favorite." She stated. "Well, I've got a bunch of errands to do, but I'm still living in the same house, just on the outskirts of town, you should come over tonight. I'll make us some chicken strips and fries. I still eat them all the time." She said and laughed musically. She leaned down to give her old friend a friendly hug. "I hope that I can see you." She said before stealing another ring. "Mm, these are delicious." She said and gave Lauren small good-bye wave. As she was leaving, Kristen's eyes trailed to the pool table, where she saw Tyler Lockwood. She didn't know him personally, only as the mayor's son and that his father died not that long ago.

After realizing she was staring and not paying attention, she bumped into someone walking in. "I'm sorry." She said, offering an apologetic smile before pulling the door and walking out. Sighing, she looked around before making her way to the grocery store. While she walked there, Kristen fished out the grocery list and scanned through it. She didn't have much to get, but enough. After looking both ways, she jogged across the road and went in the store. She greeted her boss, who was on duty today, and started grabbing up a few things on her list. After she had everything, Kristen checked out and carried the bags to her car. She mumbled curse words under her breath when she realized she probably should've parked closer. Carrying five to seven bags wasn't easy. A few times she almost toppled over or lost her things.

So, the girls where childhood friend? Klaus finished his scotch and looked over at Tyler playing pool. He rolled his eyes. It hadn't been that long since Caroline and him broke up, ending things because she was moving. The break-up a few weeks ago was tragic, and at first Klaus was happy he'd get Caroline, but he also knew it probably really wouldn't work out. With him changing her boyfriend into a hybrid and then taking over his body. Chuckling to himself, Klaus watched as the Kristen girl left, when he did, he ordered himself another glass of scotch. As he waited for it to be brought to him, his eyes traveled around the Grill until they once again fell on Lauren. She truly was an exquisite woman. Her beautiful blonde hair with the brown on the ends, her fair skin, and small but perfect lips. Her voice was almost magically.

After his scotch was brought to him, Klaus took it and stood up, raking his hand through his hair to give it more of a tousled look before walking over to her. "May I join you?" He asked as he went ahead to sit down across from her. "I'm Klaus." He greeted with a smile. "I haven't seen you around Mystic Falls, so I'm only assuming your new? Or you've just simply returned?" He asked, sipping on his scotch. "If you are new, or returning, then you lucked out, missing on all the murders and drama." He said, but thought it was funny, considering he was the main cause of everything at the time.

Lauren nodded and understood what she meant. Her leaving hadn't been her own choice since she was so little and her parents wanted to leave. When Jeremy brought over the food she couldn't help but laugh at how Kristen took an onion ring. It sounded great to spend time it's someone she knew since most of the other people looked like strangers to her even though she probably knew them even if it had been primarily through school. "Sure sound great," she smiled and hugged her back before watching her to leave.

Not even a few moments after Kristen left someone else came over. It seemed pointless, to her, that he asked to sit down but then did anyway. Klaus? Well that name certainly didn't sound the least bit familiar to her. "I'm Lauren. Yeah I'm just moving back," she responded. "Murders and drama? That's news to me," she frowned and didn't really want to deal with drama and conflict. Was it possibly a mistake coming back? As long as she didn't get caught up in any then she would hopefully be fine.

    ~~

So they knew each other because that girl Lauren used to live there. Well that was interesting. Usually those who moved away never really came back except maybe to visit. Perhaps she really was only there to visit. Right now it was way to early to make an assumption like that though. It was hardly a few minutes before Kristen was leaving and she even looked right over at him. Long enough so that she didn't even notice the person coming in and bumped right into them.

Tyler stayed long enough to vaguely notice who went over to speak to Lauren. If he was talking to her that couldn't be any good. Waiting a few minutes he finally decided to go out and try to catch the other blonde before she took off home. Part of him couldn't help but notice how pretty she was and the other part that thought she was intriguing. The fact she had lived there for a long time and not many people knew a lot about her was enough to make him think so. "Here let me help with that," he offered, catching up to see she had a ton of bags in her arms.

Kristen almost lost all bags before the man she saw in the Grill came up, helping her. She gave him a small smile. She was never good with other people, especially handsome men. "Thank you." She said softly, leading him to her SUV parked close to the Grill. She inserted the key into the trunk keyhole and turned, lifting the trunk up. Inside was a spare tire and portable air pump, along with a toolbox off to the side. Kristen put down the bags, taking the few the guy was holding. Once everything was in the trunk, she shut the door down, taking the key out. She looked over at the stranger and smiled. "Thanks. Again, I'm Kristen." She said, holding her hand out but instantly thought how stupid that had to have looked. Was she really shaking his hand? "Stupid, stupid, stupid..." She thought over and over again, while keeping her face calm and from not turning bright red. Despite the thoughts, she could feel her face heating up.

Kristen drew her hand up and kept smiling. "Sorry.. I just don't get out much and don't really know anybody. I guess you can call me shy or something.." She said, looking at Tyler. "You're Tyler Lockwood, aren't you? My dad was close to yours, they use to golf and do a bunch of other things a lot." She said and paused, her voice growing soft. "I'm sorry about his death, by the way. I lost my dad at a young age, and my mom after." Kristen drew in a deep and shuddering breath before looking at him. "Sorry, again." She said and realized how many times she had said sorry in one conversation. This caused another blush to color her cheeks bright red.

    ~

Klaus watched Tyler leave the Grill. To go after the girl, no doubt. Klaus smiled as she greeted herself. "Lauren. That's a beautiful name." He complimented. He shook his head, leaning back. "Yes, but it's been several months since anything has happened. The last thing I'd like to do is scare you away." He gave her his signature smirk before leaning back against the table. "So, may I ask why you moved back to Mystic Falls, love? It isn't exactly the ideal town I'd like to live in." He said. "I live just on the outskirts in a manor owner by my parents. Many, many years ago, and live with my sister, Rebekah." Klaus said, finishing the drink off before ordering just a plain lemon water.

It wasn't exactly his style, but he didn't want to come off as some big time alcoholic.

Lauren smiled a little at that. "Thanks." It was kind of a relief to hear that the drama had been months ago. Unfortunately she had no clue about how this place seemed to be a supernatural magnet and that it would be hard staying completely out of things what with being a witch and all. Taking a drink of her water she listened as he asked why she would come to a place like this. It's true it wasn't exactly the nicest place in the world as far as quality went.

"Well I lived in New York since I was ten and.. well.. I hated the busy city life. Maybe somewhere else would have been better, I don't know, but since Mystic Falls is my hometown and its somewhere I'm familiar with, I decided to come back here," she admitted. "Really? So did you just move back or something?"

    ~~

Tyler got there just in time to catch some of the bags before they fell. "No problem. You looked like you could use a hand," he said. While part of it was a lie since he had been coming out to talk to her anyway, this just kind of gave him a good excuse to initiate things. Following her over to her car he waited as she unlocked the trunk and started placing the bags in and handed her over the ones that he was holding.

He didn't seem to mind that she had almost shook his hand. "Yeah, I am," he said and probably shouldn't have been surprised she knew him because of being the mayors son. "Thanks," he said. "It was rough at first. It's kind of weird how you grow used to not seeing someone on a somewhat regular basis. I'm sorry about your father," he said and had vaguely heard about it since death was big news in that town considering it was kind of a small place. "So it's just you and your mom then?" He asked curiously.

Klaus just shrugged it of. "Its no problem, really." He said with a small grin. He took the glass of water and took a sip. He didn't like tasteless beverages, but he had to tolerate it. Klaus nodded. "Been to New York, several times. Too busy for my liking." He said. Klaus nodded. "I get that, it's not the best place, but certainly better then most." He told her. Klaus nodded. "I came back not that long ago." He said with a shrug. "Family issues." He took another sip of the water and wrinkled his nose. "I'm not a big fan of tasteless beverages.." He mumbled and looked up at Lauren. "So, why did you move away? Parents got a better job offer? Drama in paradise? They are other numerous reasons." He said, finishing up the water and sliding the glass aside.

He felt like there was something different about her. Something he hadn't sensed in awhile, it intrigued Klaus. He kept his eyes on her, examining her face. He examined her soft facial features, her kind eyes and smile, her soft hair that fell around her. He couldn't seem to take his eyes off her. Her soft, porcelain skin looked smooth to the touch, almost flawless. Klaus cleared his throat. "I would love to take you out for dinner Saturday night. I am quite the cook." He said. "I am told I make the best linguine." He said. "Or, if there is anything else you'd prefer I'm pretty sure I can make it." Klaus then looked around. The Grill was starting to clear out, leaving only them and very few other people. Jeremy had taken off, so only one person was working.

    ~

Kristen nodded. "I really did. Living on my own, I don't get a lot of help." She shrugged. She nodded, knowing exactly what he meant. "I went through the same thing, several times. More then I wish to know." She frowned, leaning against the car. When he asked about her mother, she just looked away. It took her several minutes to answer. "My mom died last year. She was on her way to the city, to see relatives, and on her way back, she lost control of the car. It rolled down a steep ditch, hitting tree after tree..." Kristen had to pause to choke back tears. "So, uhm, when they finally found her, she was thrown from the car, which was completely totaled." She said, inhaling a deep and shaky breath. She looked at him and shrugged, biting her lower lip. "So, it's just me." She said, her eyes lowering down to the ground.

Lauren nodded, it seemed someone agreed with her. "I'm not either," she said when he commented about drinking water. "I figured it was better than trying to underage drink," she shrugged and wasn't really into drinking all hours of the day like some people might be. "I guess that's one way of putting it. My parents and I don't exactly get along well. I wanted to get out of New York the moment I was old enough and they liked it there so as soon as I turned eighteen I was out of there."

Lauren was a little surprised by the sudden change in conversation. This was certainly not what she expected during her first day back. "Sure," she agreed. He seemed nice enough. Had she known of his happenings in Mystic Falls and what he had done, well then she probably wouldn't have agreed. "Linguine sounds fine to me."

    ~~

Tyler could understand that since he didn't always get a whole lot of help with things either. He wondered what she meant about going through the feeling several times and wondered if she really lost so many loved ones. He couldn't imagine loosing so many people. When she finally spoke again about her mom he kind of regretted mentioning her at all once she said about how she lost her mom only last year. "Oh I'm sorry. I didn't realize.." He said and felt like he just put his foot in his mouth there. "You should get out more," he said when she said about it just being her. "I could introduce you to some people of you'd like," he offered.

Klaus nodded. "Tell me about it." He said with a small sigh. He nodded. "I don't blame you. New York is a nice place to visit and tour, but I wouldn't fancy living there." Klaus said and stood up. "Well, I must get going soon. Errands and such. Pleasure meeting you, Lauren." Klaus said, taking her hand in his and putting a soft kiss on the top. He walked out of the grill, getting into his black SUV. He started it up, heading onto his house outside of town.

Once parked, he got out and headed inside, feeling pretty good. A dark haired brunette approached her, offering him her blood, which he gladly accepted. He brought her wrist to his mouth. Klaus' fangs bit into her drist, drinking down her warm blood. After taking his fill, Klaus nodded her off, drinking a glass of bourbon before taking a shower.

    -

Kristen shook her head. "You didn't know." She softly said. When he offered to introduce her to some people, she nodded, taking him up on that offer. "That sounds fun, but I do have cold stuff I should be getting put up." Kristen said with a laugh. She took out a piece of paper, jotting her number down, and handed him the paper. "Just give me a call later, may e we can make plans." She then said a quick good bye before getting into her car and pulling out, heading home.
