History - The Distributed Republic formed on Eques. A nanotechnological revolution swept Eques 173 years before the Lannich engine was invented. The Lannich engine nearly destroyed Volente society. The most powerful clades kept the Lannich engine technology for themselves, creating resentment from the numerous lesser clades on Eques. This lead to the Equity Wars and the destruction of a once great culture. The resulting power vacuum led to the creation of the Distributed Republic and the Overclade, representing the interests of the Volente people as a polity of culturally divided but racially united peoples. The Great Expansionary Period followed, catapulting the Distributed Republic into a position of uneasy power. (Needs more details, blah blah blah.)

Most Distributed Republic infantrymen carry semi-automatic or automatic rail rifles. These highly accurate weapons boast a high RoF and incredible stopping power. They are only limited by power consumption and cooling issues. Lighter rail rifles used by special operations and picket troops eschew an external power source and use specialized electrochemical shells that provide their own power. Distributed Republic rail rifles have a staggering variety of ammunition, from conventional anti-infantry rounds to nanotech smart explosives to diamondoid flechettes. Heavier variants of these rifles are used against power armored troops and vehicles.

Most heavy infantrymen and strike commandos wear power armor. The difference between power armor and armored suits used in the Distributed Republic is considerable. You can wear power armor and still scratch your nose! Most soldiers wear comfortable organic fabrics underneath their powered armor. The potential for discomfort in skintight response suits was considered and certain provisions were made to make power armor comfortable for long term wear. Most power armor is compose of two pieces: a thick fabric coverall that houses sheets of nanotechnological fiber and a carbon-frame exoskeleton with a compact power source and attachment points. The fibers are like synthetic muscle. They can expand and contract upon command. They are capable of reorganizing and self-repairing to a certain extent. The exoskeleton is made from soap-bubble thin carbon nanoplate joined together by long, flat and wide strands of the same. These strands of nanoplate can fold around joints are surrounded in accordion sleeve fabric to prevent cuts. The chest areas of the exoskeleton are devoid of nanoplate, instead they hold a harness of attachment points and sensor cables that link into whatever armor the infantry man chooses. The exoskeleton is not meant to provide protection. It provides additional leverage for the pseudo-muscle fiber and attachment points for armor, supply pouches, and other equipment.

Aside from the compact space-worthy suits used by marines, armored suits barely resemble their wearers. Most armored suits stand around fourteen feet tall. The wearer rests inside a cramped, heavily armored compartment with an access hatch typically at the back. Operators wear fitted fireproof jumpsuits that clip into the control interference. Most suits have three or four diamondoid windows that provide a real view of the surrounding environment in what the suit's sensors and cameras display. Gyroscopic stabilizers surrounding the cabin and are built into the legs and arms of the suits. Suits have a typical "chicken walker" design and modular slots for weapons and equipment on their chassis and arms.

    - Defenses -

A common sight along Forces perimeters are rows of carbon or bamboo poles staked into the ground at regular intervals. Most poles have tattered strips of orange safety tape hanging from their tops. A faint glimmer hangs in the air them. Nanotech security systems are commonplace. Most are simple warning systems. Some have tagging nanites. Most defense grids have an aggressive heat seeking species the size of small cockle burrs hanging in the glimmer. Once attached, they detonate, blowing a marble sized hole in most flesh.

    Race Name- Volente
    NPCable - Yes.
    Population - 376 Billion
Habitat - Varies. The Volente require a temperature range of 290 to 310 Kelvin to live comfortably, but can withstand temperature extremes. Volente worlds have a higher concentration of atmospheric oxygen and iodine than other worlds.
Appearance - Roughly humanoid. The Volente are larger in stature and lack terminal and auxiliary hair.
Physiology - Fleshy sacks of shit. The Volente are also incapable of absorbing iodine from diet. Their only biological pathway for absorbing iodine is through respiration.
Personality - Varies. The prevailing notion is that Volente are emotionally absent and exude a forced politeness. Artists and freethinkers exists on the edges of Volente society. The scars of the Equity wars run deep through the collective psyche of the people; they are a constant reminder that unity and duty comes before personal feuds. Volente society breeds stability instead of creativity. Most Volente live behind a polite shell
Lifespan/Birth/Aging - Volente have a natural lifespan of about 100 years. Medical technology has extended this to several times that.
    Language - Esperanto.
Religion - Secular. The Distributed Republic has no religion. The varied religions of the Volente people still exist. God is dead; few Distributed Republic religions preach the supernatural. They are only containers for philosophical and ethical thought to live one's life by.
Culture - The Equity Wars intensified the differences between Volente and cultures and superficially erased them. The two largest clades of the Distributed Republics are divided by fundamental cultural differences.

    History - Long!

    EDIT: Dedicated Military Post

    Ship application
    Ship class:
Size: F1 (light fighter) through F5 (Large shuttle) for fighter-sized ships, S1 (small corvette or fast attack craft) and higher for starships. The biggest starship a nation can build is calculated by 16-power rating (S13 for a type III power). Note that sizes are measured quadratically, meaning each size is roughly twice the size of the next smaller. B1 and B2 fill the gaps between F5 and S1.
    Ship role:
    Main armaments:
Point defense armaments: (Usually only starships will have these)
    Defenses:
    Power plant:
    Engine:
    Crew:
    Miscellaneous:

Glitter Bomb : Despite their innocent name, Glitter Bombs are deadly weapons. A coil of small kinetic detonators is wrapped around a high explosive core and covered with a soft outer shell. When the bomb is detonated, the grain-sized kinetic detonators, patterned with sticky thorns like cockle-burrs, dispersed through the air and latch onto whatever they touch first. After several seconds they detonate, producing a small explosion that can be deadly against organic targets. Smaller sized grains can be used. These are designed to be inhaled and destroy capillaries and lungs. Glitter Bombs are mostly used as area denial weapons. Flechette grenades are also common.
