Do you recycle characters in role-plays?.

    Hi!,

I am new to the forum, but you can find all that out as you read in my introduction post.

As the heading says, I am curious to know if people here recycle characters and place them in other role-plays. Not just any character, but a beloved one. One you love and put your heart and soul in to. I know some people may find it annoying, but personally I enjoy using the same character in different role-plays that fit with the genre that she is in. I tend to do it because she travels and I enjoy having her reflect back on the characters of other people and the things she has learned from them. Do others do the same?. I am curious to know.

I do use different variations of the same character from time to time, tailoring them to concepts to fit the games, but I haven't yet had the opportunity to use a character who has finished a roleplay in another. Probably because those I finished had characters who were quite... Err... Specific to those roleplays.

    Sometimes.

I'll more often recycle the name and basic demeanor than the whole thing though.

Its actually a very common practice for me. I recycle appearance, names and personality, usually all linked together. Some details may chance from incarnation to incarnation depending on the rp its going into but the core of the character will usually remain the same.

Sometimes. Typically I'll recycle concepts that have several evolutionary paths instead of specific characters.

Not in a way that would be considered full character recycling, no. The closest to that I come is sometimes playing similar character archetypes in different games, but that's not really recycling a full character.

Aside from that, at most I'll reuse a name or personality or bits of history from a past character. Never a full port though, because my characters are all somewhat made to fit in the world of that particular RP. Oftentimes I'll purposely integrate specific pieces of the world into core facets of my character to make them more a part of that world. Say it's a fantasy RP in which some group of mages back in the day created a bunch of animal-human hybrids for a war, which aren't anything to do with the main plot but are still a part of the world. I might make my character have an ancestor who was one of those mages and thus is kind of ashamed of his lineage, or maybe he lost family to a feral hybrid creature and thus grew to hate magic users. Something like that to make the character very specifically crafted for that game.

So yeah, no real recycling for me.

I do occasionally recycle a character, but only ones from RP's that didn't get far. I don't want to "waste" a character I liked. But even then they only get one more chance before I just assume they are just not meant to be. Once a character has been played to a certain extent I associate them with that setting and I just don't feel right RPing them elsewhere.

Never an entire character. Usually after I take a look at what the rps guidelines for character creation I will go back through several other characters who fit into that genre and select my favourite traits from different characters and merge them into a new guy, So in the end im recycling peices of anywhere from 2-6 different characters. Or I just make a new guy altogether.

Tweak the biography, equipment carried on character and TA DA. You have a new character.

I always recycle characters. I have to build my characters in different universes, and just overall make myself used to Rping as them. This also make me happy when I get to use a character I worked so hard on to the fullest extent that I wouldn't be able to in a rp that never got off the ground.

I will, every once in a while, create a fresh character for a certain RP. One of the prime examples of this is when I'm entering a RP that is set in real-life settings. I usually go for the fiction, fantasy, anime/manga type-of characters, so I really have to make new ones to fit a certain universe.

In the end of it all, depends on the universe, and how attached I am to said character(s).
