The filth of this city is starting to creep into my veins. Nausea.

Seriously, sometimes I wish the people here would take 5 seconds out of their lives to realize how decrepit and disgusting they are, with their perfumes that burns the nostrils and their pseudo-morality piddled around their ankles like a group of 5 year olds who pissed themselves. You can actually taste their stink, it's in the way they move, the way they talk, the way they breathe. Their hoity toity elitist attitudes befuddling the air, much akin to the nuclear smog over Hiroshima. Sometimes I pray there was a plague decimating the world's population, cutting everyone by a tenth, making them open their eyes, realize how fragile life is and how vulnerable and frail they all are. It upset me on a personal level, I become nauseous when I spend too much time here, so I retreat into my room and hide. For all the bad there is in being homeless, I prefer them to these high-class vagabonds, these dapper wasters, these... Parasites.

I watch them bleed the world dry, then point the fingers at others as they inhale as many resources in possible in their short lifetimes, "It's not my fault!" Says the priest, "This is the way God made us!"

The Politician screams, "It's not our fault! Look at him! He is the true evil!" Pointing fingers at the rabble of rats that crowd around them.

"It's the environment!" The pseudo-scientists yells, this modern day soothsayers with no actual credibility, "You can't change it, it's always been this way."

They are all wrong, the problem is not, "The other side, God, or The World." The problem is you.

You. You people who stand around and do nothing why people starve in the streets, who whine about your little problems as children starve and die. Your ego clouds your eyesight from the terrors of the world, and like a horse with blinders you follow. You obey the whip and follow the path, ignoring those you step on along the way. If only you opened your eyes, and saw the world like I did.

If only you looked at people, and saw them for the disgusting, horrid creatures that they were. Maybe you'd try to change.

Maybe, you'd make eye contact with someone you didn't know.

Maybe, you'd hand out bread to someone hungry.

Maybe, you'd stop whining, and become pro-active.

Maybe, Just maybe, you'd become a better person.

A simple reply being the devil's advocate. Why would anyone want to break away from their well off life to help someone that more than likely screwed up in their life at one point? And why do those people deserve a second chance, when they messed up the first time?

(I don't actually think this way. I'm just playing devil's advocate.)

I don't. I have a place to live, and food to eat and all that. But I'm just a teenager spongeing off of my family until I have to go out and make my own in the world. So, I have no real opinion on the matter.

and here lies the problem, "Why help others?" "It's their fault." "It sounds difficult." This is the disgusting mindset, propagated by the decrepit luxury humanity has set itself in. The answer is so simple it's baffling.

Because you can be so much better then that.

You can be the light of change in the dim sewer that is this world, the lone torchlight that the roaches and dregs flee from. You can be better. You can be different. If everyone stopped thinking, "Why should I?" and started thinking, "How can I?" We as a species could change, we could take the next social evolutionary step. Instead of being roaches and leeches swimming in the murky waters, we could be the swans flying above the swamp, moving as a species to a better place.

In your viewpoint everything could get better, and humanity as whole could rise above what we are, but the problem lies with convincing people.

DA: It's my money, I need it to pay for all of the things I have in my life. I've worked my ass off for most of my life to come where I am now. And I'll be damned if I just write a check to someone that's looking to give away the money to the people that haven't worked for it. I'm already being taxed enough to help them out, so just handing away say a million dollars to someone that's been sitting on their tail drinking their life away with whatever change they scrounge up instead of saving it, isn't going to happen. I've got everything I need, and I'm living my life to my means. Their discomfort has been no worry to me, and haven't been my entire life.

And yet you refuse to help? You have the stability some men and women will never know in their lives and the opportunity to be the very best that humanity has to offer, instead you bundle up, shut your eyes, put your fingers in your ears and scream, scream that you're not listening as the huddled masses wail outside your door. You yell and you scream at them as they upset your sheltered view, because it's so much easier to look down on them then to give them a scrap, a trivial small thing. You refuse to even give them a smile.

You are a sponge, because you see your needs met, and that's all you expect of yourself, that's all you want from your life, comfort and survival, you care not for your personal character. Your ability to change, you care only about yourself. Don't worry.

    Your only human.

It's expected. Hell, it's even acceptable for a person to hog everything given to them like a pig, fattening yourself up and attacking anything that gets close to your trough as you swallow gallons of muck by the mouthful. As you grow, you bring yourself one step to closer to the slaughterhouse, everyday you weaken your morality, you lower yourself just a bit more, until inevitably you have nothing left.

You could become the Paragon, the light of society, the one that news articles are written about, and people look up to. Imagine for just one second if you dropped a piece of food, or a few pennies into the outstretched hands of someone in need. That personal fire you could keep inside of you, that would protect you from the darkness that threatens to swallow you from all sides. The darkness of becoming "Only Human."

Maybe if you weren't such a bitch, you wouldn't need me to give you food in the first place.
