Interested! Although I am not familiar with the game.
'Sup guys. This is my first post here in a looooooooong time, so forgive me if I forgot how things work here.
Anyway, some of you have hopefully heard of the amazing DS game Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors, and its recently-released sequel, Virtue's Last Reward. This idea plays off the second one. For those who haven't heard of the series, you should definitely check it out, but for now here's a quick rundown:
There will be nine slots available in this RP, each being a participant in the game. You all wake up with no idea where you are and you are forced into the Nonary Game. This RP will follow the rules of the second game, so each player has a bracelet on them. At the start, each bracelet will read "3". Your goal is to get this number to 9 and escape through the exit door (also marked "9" for your convenience). To do this, you will have to play the Ambidex Game, a game of betrayal that is somewhat based off of the much-discussed Prisoner's Dilemma. In it, you can choose to ally or betray your partner, and your choices could have serious consequences. The rules will be discussed further in the actual thread.
In addition, there will (probably) be some puzzles for you to solve, depending on how well I or any volunteers can craft them.
This story will primarily evolve from your characterizations and your choices, and I will do my best to tailor the story to fit these. So the choice is up to you, fine RP'ers. Will you choose to ally... or to betray?

The series kicks ass, count me in!
I'm interested though I wonder how this will work out since every character needs to have some shocking secrets that are kept hidden from the others to create doubt and there would have to be some sort of grand scheme to everything. I also hope that there won't be any spoilers for those who haven't played 999 or Virtue's last reward.
Each player will be free to choose their own character and backstory (to an extent), with any secret elements PM'd to me. I'll try to edit these and hand out roles to ensure a coherent plot, though working in a big mystery could be hard considering the characters' actions will be more or less improvised. Regardless, I do have a main idea for the RP that should be able to work without a grand conspiracy: Basically, nine people are chosen for participation in a game show with a five-million-dollar prize. They all arrive at what they are told is the correct location and time, and all are knocked out. They wake up in the company of Zero's AI avatar, who informs them that while the prize is legitimate and will be divided among the winners, the losers die. I was hoping that the presence of a prize would give the characters reason to betray, though I'm assuming each character will be at least slightly suspicious anyway. If not, Zero can just withhold from mentioning the death penalty for a while. :3
Be that as it may, until people can sign up and post CS's I can't do too much in the way of writing a backstory. I'll wait for a few more days and then post an OOC if I feel enough people are interested. In addition, I'd like everyone to tell me what skill level they'd prefer the RP to be in if you could. Thanks!

I'd love to be a part of this.![]()
Any interest remaining in this? As you could probably tell from the avatar and sig, I'm interested and have been considering making an rp similar to this vein as well.
One idea for the Betray/Ally segments would be to pm in discussion with your partner (if your character has one at that point) and then pm you, the GM the choice, before the results are displayed in the IC proper. Helps keep things secret a bit.
One other thing you could do to help coax people into being suspicious of each other is just to have mentioned that one of the characters in the game IS Zero, and that it could be any one of them. You could even pm a player and say that their character is Zero, so as to not make it completely obvious the GM's character is them.
I'd also say multiple characters per rper would be pretty good if 9 rpers can't be reached. Also gives rpers more options and more accessibility to having one of their characters die, as they'd at least still be in the rp with another one, or two characters.
Let me know if you're still interested.
