Let's say instead of being overweight, the person in question is pregnant. It's a healthy pregnancy with no detectable problems, from a consensual coupling. The insurance and/or government program WOULD cover all normal pregnancy-related medical expenses; however, INSTEAD, the person in question has elected to get an abortion.

Should the government and/or health insurance policy cover the voluntary/elective abortion of an otherwise healthy fetus?
    Apply eugenetics and create velociraptorpeople.

Let's start with "having an opinion," and work our way up to "having a discussion." I bet we can surprise ourselves.
Well then in that case: no. It's still an elective surgery. The government should not have to pay for someone being too lazy to get off their butt and exercise, or being too lazy to use contraception correctly/be a parent. After thinking about it today I realize I probably shouldn't have snapped at you because, really, not much has changed, here. Even someone pro-choice like myself should be able to realize how stupid/unfair it is for the rest of the country to pay for your abortion out of their tax money, when you didn't even need it.

If it was a life-threatening pregnancy or product of rape I would reconsider, but, as you said it was a healthy fetus and I heard no mention of rape, so, I stand by my point. The government should not pay for it.
