"It can't be a lesson if I can't understand it. You droning on in German will merely put me to sleep." Johnna stated rising from the chair. "And stop smoking, just because you want to kill yourself does not mean you need to affect my health and appearance." She took a few steps back from the desk and rolled her ankles a bit, she always got stiff after practice if she didn't restretch.

"And if I can't speak it, I still can't pass my tests. I think you're striking out." Okay, now she was just being difficult. She didn't have much of an attention span for this kind of learning.

"What do you suggest then?" Kevin asked stubbing out his cigarette, obviously annoyed. It was obvious that this rich, blonde girl was judging him. It happened a lot in this school. He'd come on part of a government program to try and reform troubled children, and it was obvious that he was different from most of the kids at the institute.

He sighed incredulously at being told of his strike out. "I really wasn't aiming to impress you. I was asked by a friend to teach somebody German. That somebody turned out to be a stuck up chick... so... I think I'm gonna go." With that Kevin picked up the case that held his guitar and his book bag, and moved to leave the classroom.
"You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it."

"I'm not stuck up." She shouted indignantly at him. She was fuming now and pursed her lips as she furrowed her brow. "I had to audition just like everyone else to get into this school. I didn't ask to take German and they didn't ask me if I wanted you as a tutor."

She turned her back to him, reaching for her own belongings. "You think everyone is against you because you don't come from the same kind of family as we do. Yeah, well your family could be better than anyone's here. Your mom may not be an alcoholic and you might actually see your dad. Infact, I don't care about your parents at all. You just think that we're judging you when you're actually judging us!"

Kevin stopped for a moment. He wasn't sure now if this girl who was so easily angered had been talking about her parents, or his own. She couldn't have known that his mother was near perpetually shit-faced, and his father had left his family when he was six. For a moment he felt sorry for her, if her family was anything like his had been. "You're only fighting me because I insulted you." He told her, "I insulted you in a place where you couldn't just shrug it off and call me a dirt-bag and walk away laughing with your bunch of clones that you call friends."

The sandy haired young man sat back down, perching himself atop the teachers desk this time. "Your kind goes to extreme lengths to avoid my kind." Kevin didn't sound angry, he just explained the world as he saw it. "It's only natural... I get a lot of crap here, because I can't be easily ignored. I'm on the defensive most of the time. I'm sorry I snapped at you, but you should really work on that temper."

The boy paused one last time before finishing with a question, hopefully to keep her from continuing to yell. Kev wasn't exactly sure if this girl was intelligent enough to understand what he meant, and a dunce could easily have taken it as an insult. "What are your parents like?"

"My friends aren't clones. They all have minds of their own." She stopped herself as she listened to the rest of his speech. He was awkward. Why did he feel the need to explain himself. She had turned her back to him as he perched himself on the desk.

"What were my parents like?" She hesitated at answering. "My dad owns a computer security firm. It's based in Dublin, because the European market it much more receptive to million dollar systems. So, he spends up to six months at our castle just outside of Dublin. While my mom runs a high class spa that just opened three new locations across the country and one on the Island of Atlantis. So, we have a house on Atlantis and a condo or mansion at every of town. So my mom spends her time hopping from place to place while I get to live here or in the summer on Atlantis." She sounded sad as she finished talking and headed towards the door. "I don't know how your parents were, but no matter how crazy your parents might be, at least you know that they were around part of the time."
