While Nick was away moving the freighter, Captain Klak spoke to Captain Forester. "I assume you know my Betazed friend, Athena Ryal? She advises me on all my hires and keeps me updated on the morale of the crew. As you may be aware, many of my crew are either Starfleet sympathizers or former Starfleet personnel. No one talks about it because they are all uncomfortable about what has happened."
"Athena tells me these things. She feels what they feel. They hate the Dominion, but don't know what to do. A few have given up trying. They have surrendered themselves to a life of serving aboard a cargo freighter. The Romulans aboard my ship are important to me because they help us pass through the Neutral zone. They are my point men on Romulus or any Romulan planet. They are no friend to Starfleet and secretly appear to be quite pleased with the way things worked out. They are no friend to the Dominion either."
"My one Ferengi is a businessman. An unscrupulous one, but nevertheless, a businessman. Everything in his eyes, is a business possibility. He would view the information that Athena and I share in private as a cash opportunity. If he knew what we know about the crew, he would strip my ship of its personnel just to line his own pockets. So, we have to be sensitive about who knows what. He is important to my venture because he understands the value of commodities and knows how to market them."
"The young man who I just sent away to move the ship into the Nebula. His name is Nicolas Harman. He is a solid warrior. He and I have been sparring for many months. He is a good strong warrior. He has beaten me on a few occasions." The Klingon feigned a drop in his pride, "only a few, I must iterate." He didn't want to let on that a puny human had beaten him, a Klingon. "I picked him up on earth, the last time I was there." He looked at Athena.
"Thirteen months ago, Captain," the Betazed answered his unspoken question.
"Captain Forester, I am so glad you wore your Starfleet uniform to meet us here. Your attire confirmed what we only suspected." Klak turned to Athena Ryal. "Athena, please fill in the Captain."
Athena Ryal is a very attractive Betazed woman. She stand 5' 8" tall and has all the right curves in all the right places. She wears a skin-tight suit. The fabric stretched over her large breasts and outlining her teardrop shaped bottom. "Captain Forester, I had suspected he was an officer in Starfleet the first time I met him. The Captain didn't question him about it because we have found some people are uncomfortable about this. You may be aware how the Cardassians put many Starfleet personnel to death in public executions on earth in the first few months after earth fell. There are many Starfleet personnel who have chosen to hide their identity from the Cardassians for reasons of survival. When Mr. Harman saw your uniform, I felt his excitement. He has a lot of questions for you. He wants to fight the Cardassians but doesn't know what to do. He will look to your for guidance."
Athena looked at the third members of their group, an Andoran man named Jendar Hinks. "Jendar, you served in Starfleet, right?"
"Yes, I did. I worked in Security. My last posting was at the Academy on earth." The blue skinned man spoke about what he had seen. "I thought Nicolas Harman looked familiar when I saw him first step aboard the Island Pearl. It wasn't until after I listened to the conversation with Captain Klak and Athena that I remembered where I'd seen him. He was a Lieutenant working in Operations at the Academy. He worked for Admiral Lefebvre who was the last Commandant of the Academy. Lieutenant Harman even taught a few classes while at the Academy."
Captain Klak took over the impromptu presentation. "Lieutenant Harman believes there is something wrong with the warp drives aboard the ship. I told the engineers to shut down the drives and report a malfunction. We limped through the Nebula on Impulse drive and docked at your air lock knowing that you wouldn't want it there. Then, I used Harman to move the ship, so we could talk to you alone. I trust you understand, Captain?" Klak looked at the human before continuing.
"Harman wants to fight. Athena has felt it and I have seen it in his eyes during our weekly sparring in the cargo bay. He has a lot of anger and hatred built up inside. Fortunately, he has had me to take that energy out on. I don't mind." Captain Klak puffed his chest, "after all, I am a veteran Klingon warrior." The large Klingon added with a grin. "If you can find a place in your resistance group for a trained, talented, experienced and motivated warrior, I would appreciate it if you could find a place for Lieutenant Harman." Captain Klak waited for a response from Captain Forester. "I will give him to you. I think he will fit in better here than aboard my ship."
The shuttle landed in the bay and Nick Harman walked out carrying the Klingon Bloodwine. He placed the keg on the decking and walked off to locate the two ship Captains. As he walked into the area where they had been chatting, Nick overheard Captain Forester say, "So Captain, where is your next port, before heading back this way. Perhaps we can discuss arrangement for another layover in the nebula, an exchange of cargo, Captain Forester spoke aware that the former Starfleet Lieutenant had returned and was in listening distance.
Captain Klak answered the Captain's question, "once the warp drives are back on line, we are heading to Qo'Nos in the Empire. We are carrying Saurian Brandy, dilithium and luxury items. I can spare a case of Brandy, if you wish?" Captain Klak didn't want to say out loud how much Blood wine he was carrying just in case anyone was listening and wanted more than the one barrel he was leaving behind. "I will look for commodities to be returned to the Romulan sector. They pay well. Your station lies along the path between those two planets. We can be back within a week's time."
Nick Harman took this opportunity to interrupt. "Captain Forester, could I have a word with you, in private?" He looked at Captain Klak and the other two. He didn't want to talk about his business with them.
