Name: Taiju Hayashi
Age: 16
Personality: Solemn, dutiful, and respectful, Taiju is a well-behaved young man with little turmoil running rampant in his head. In essence, he has a clean conscience, and neither fears nor worries about anything save for the occasional exam. To say he is without flaw however, would be a misconception. He is dutiful in the sense that if he is expected to do something, he will do so, though with no extra effort than what was required on most occasions. He prefers to simply complete tasks properly, rather than put in more work for potential praise or recognition; he feels completely satisfied with the amount of attention he gets and the success he achieves currently. Easily placated and not one to require much maintenance, Taiju is easily independent, but subtly prefers even silent company. Internally, Taiju is actually quite spiteful of certain peoples, especially those who are rude or otherwise display delinquency. In this sense, he feels superior to those who are loud and disruptive or destructive, though his introverted nature prevents him from vocalizing his opinions, and even further, from standing up to such peoples.
Of course, this entire personality is launched out the window by an orcish catapult when his little sister comes into question. It is quite true that Taiju has a sister-complex, likely the most powerful and aggressive one out there. Living alone with his 9-year old sister Mimi Hayashi, Taiju acts as a brotherly parent of sorts, working, cooking, and instructing her where he can. In public with her, he is practically a submarine explosive mine... With laser guidance and cameras watching the surrounding's every move. Approaching the girl when she is alone is paramount to pressing a button labelled 'Press if You're a Retard Looking for a Long Night Chained to a Dungeon Wall'.
School: Nagatenjouki Academy
History: Born in Japan and placed into the Power Curriculum Program at the tender age of 7, Taiju has since become quite accustomed to Academy City, and has often been attributed to saying,
"I often consider leaving this place, and I wonder where I'd live. I've been places outside the city, but when I stay there for long enough, I begin to realize... I don't believe I could ever live anywhere else than Academy City."
Initially a Level 0 at birth, he was nevertheless introduced to the famous Nagetenjouki Academy in the city with the hopes of succeeding in becoming the establishment's very first Level 5 Esper. The Academy at the time had recently replaced the Director after several years of failing to produce a Level 5, and so hopes were high that new changes would bring about their desired outcome. Though certainly not as hardworking as some of the other boys and girls, Taiju demonstrated an innate attunement to the program, and progressed at an accelerated pace. Eventually he reached the status of Level 3 within six years. It was then that his younger sister who was still living with his parents was also sent to Academy City to live with Taiju. Even younger than he was when sent away (5 years of age) she wasn't quite as ready to jump into the Program and was cared for at a daycare when Taiju was not around the home.
Ability Name: Deathbox
Level: 3
Usage: Deathbox is an illusion psychic power affecting either a single individual or groups of people depending on the environment around Taiju. When outside a particularly enclosed structure, Taiju can only focus his power enough to affect either one or two people (who must be nearby both each other and to Taiju himself). When inside an enclosed structure such as a building or vehicle, his power extends to nearly all individuals present in the specific room or area, but disappears when Taiju exits the room. The ability is passive, and once activated affects the individual(s) whether Taiju focuses on them or not, though nevertheless requires him being nearby to work. The ability does not affect other espers who may have powers allowing them to see/smell/hear/etc in inhuman ways, and only affects normal sensory processing of the target(s).
Deathbox's ability is to deny those afflicted any capability to distinguish "reference points" or important objects/structures/persons in their vicinity. For Taiju, this means he could alone cause himself to become 'invisible' to an entire room of people, or to a single individual outside. However using 'invisible' as a definition is technically incorrect, as individuals afflicted by Deathbox can comprehend that Taiju is in fact present but cannot distinguish where. If Taiju affects individual(s) before they realize Taiju is present, then afflicted humans cannot comprehend the sense they get, and pass of Taiju's presence as simply an ominous feeling, rendering him truly invisible. But this ability is not limited to Taiju's presence alone. Deathbox is given its name because of the pandemonium it causes in rooms or buildings; Taiju is not the only reference point one can see. Deathbox extends to other persons in the room, as well as doors, windows, clocks, struts, floors, stairs, lights, walls, paintings and decorations, animals, cameras, you name it. If one is able to say that, "It is there," then Deathbox can affect individuals ability to understand where that 'where' really is.
Individuals under these effects are rendered incapable of exiting the room or noticing any other people present, though can hear them as an all-encompassing voice with no clear direction. If the individual were to attempt to walk anywhere, they would find themselves incapable of clearly reaching a specific point, as they are unable to distinguish where their target location even is. Even noticing their limbs becomes impossible, as well as understanding where their sense of gravity or touch is coming from. All senses are affected; sight, smell, touch, hearing, and taste, and become ambiguously located senses that an individual can sense but cannot find the location of.
