My question to you is: Do you recycle your own pre-made characters or do you generate new characters for each roleplay? Why?

Personally, I make a new character for each roleplay. I don't have a specific character that I enjoy playing with. I do, however, like to take my favorite characters and place them in a thread so I can look back on them and say, "This was a great roleplay" or "This one wasn't." More or less like a collection that shouldn't be touched.
I do both. There are certain characters that you will make which are just great all around. I have three characters that I've made since starting roleplaying which are like that. I have used them more than two times each already without hindering the roleplays they are involved for they fit directly into that setting. But I do make new characters usually, and I do have a collection that I refuse to reuse since they are entirely crap out of their respective setting.

Depending on the role play. I tend to recycle a character if its medieval fantasy. I think my character is what is known as a 'Universe Hopper', although I dont know it that would be the correct term. I have her go from one story line to the next and just add it to the list of adventures. I like her reminiscing and reflecting on past role plays.

Friza Angelo is a character I've used an absolute shit ton. Have had him for at least six years and running. Sometimes I need to tweak his powers to fit with the RP, but most of the time he's a sure fit. If I can't use him, I just create another character. Sometimes, I use Angelo as a last name as a spiritual tie to Friza, who, may I add, was my first ever RP character.

Like Stalker, I base characters off of tropes, and flesh them out from there.

    Recycle.

If the site fits the idea, I may use the exact same character with the previous RPs tacked-on as backstory.
-And that backstory can get huge.

    This.

Unless I really want to draw up a new character.

I've never once used a pre-made character for a RP. Just make them all up as I go along

I have only occasionally recycled characters that I made in other RP's to new ones. Usually, I generate fresh for the RP, because I want to capture the essence of the RP in that character. If I have a character from another RP that fits into the RP in question to my satisfaction, I'll use that character. Otherwise, drawing board. And even when recycled, I still tweak the character to fit.

I make new characters for every roleplay, simply because using the same character over and over again would bore me to death. Roleplaying is a lot more interesting when I play new roles all the time!
