    Corsair (OOC)

    A Science Fiction Adventurer RP, which takes place in the same universe as my Achenaran Imperium and also coexists alongside modern Earth.

    The year on Earth is 2011 CE, but no one cares about that, because humans are an underdeveloped race that lacks even the most basic of interstellar space travel.

    Instead, the races of the galaxy refer to the year as Galactic Standard Year 1011, as it has been approximately 1011 years since the mysterious Promethean race vanished from the galaxy. Over the course of the last thousand years or so, various alien species have developed and perfected faster-than-light star travel, allowing them to traverse the stars as if crossing an ocean back in the Age of Sail. Empires have risen and fallen. From one of the greatest of these nations, a man retired from military service, using his pension to finance a spaceship to call his own.

    This spaceship eventually because a privateer cruiser, taking contracts to exterminate pirates, deliver high-value goods, and perform all manner of tasks, so long as they paid well. He made a good living, for a time, and had fun.

    Until his cruiser was taken away from him, his license stripped.

    Sir James Drake, Achenaran Corsair. That's what he calls himself, now. He was no longer a licensed privateer, but he was at least able to obtain a Writ of Course, an interim license that allowed him to use destroyer he had obtained from the pirate clan of Jack Jaimeson to perform a serious of mission... mission that could lead to his re-acquisition of the license that had been unjustly taken from him.

    But a Corsair needs a crew, of qualified individuals willing to take on high-risk mission for substantial pay. His last crew had been lost in an unfortunate battle. Now, as he recovers on the Surian outpost of Vegalia, in the chaotic territory that had once been the Zikaren Empire, James Drake is looking for these qualified individuals to fill the seats of his new crew.

    Here's the commander of the Vengeance:
    Name: Sir James Drake
    Gender: Male
    Age: 26 Achenaran Standard Years, apparent age 25 human years due to chrysalis treatment
    Race: Achenaran
    Appearance: Unless one knew exactly what to look for, they would not be able to distinguish Achenaran from humans. Even if they did know what to look for, it would be difficult. James Drake has brown hair and eyes that shift in color from grey to blue to green.

    Crew position: Owner, Commander and Corsair of the Vengeance
    Skills: Tactics (space, ground, and shipboard combat), Battlesuit (medium and heavy), Beam weapons (graviton plasma), melee (Achenaran blademaster), unarmed combat (Achenaran Ku martial arts), piloting (spacefighter, medium starship), gunner (graviton plasma, fusion, antiparticle)
    Merits: Achenaran citizenship, genetic enhancements, "guinea pig" for Anne's experiments with using chrysalis to enhance body structure.
    Flaws: Impatience with red tape and politics, lack of subtlety. Though he is more tolerant of non-Achenarans than most of his kind, a bit of the Achenaran superiority complex carries over anyway.
    History: James Drake grew up in the Janissary Program, a government-sponsored program that educates and raises orphans, offering them an officer commission once they turn 10 (10 Achenaran Standard years = approximately 18 Earth years). Drake accepted the commission at age 10, and quickly found himself assigned to Achenaran Special Forces due to his aptitude and willingness to undergo genetic augmentation. After serving 10 years in the Imperial Armada, Drake retired with full pension due to his exemplary service. Upon retirement he invested in an interstellar merchant vessel, venturing outside Achenaran space to trade. He invested in defensive armaments to ward of pirates and his guns got bigger and bigger, and gradually the Marlin evolved into a privateer vessel with full armament. He lost his Achenaran crew due to incidents he does not discuss, and is investing in a new crew composed of all races willing to join and remain loyal.

    And the Executive officer, an AI organism that created a biological body to transfer her consciousness into

    Race: Vanderran. Vanderrans are a humanoid species, that lives on a planet that has about ten times Earth's gravity. Though similar physically, they are shorter than humans, the average being 4 to 5 feet tall. They are stronger and more resilient than humans however, due to the sheer force of gravity on their planet. Primarily known for inventing heavy machinaries capable of operating in the harshest of conditions.
    Appearance: In short she looks like a human girl of 4 feet high, with two elongated feline ears poking from her short hair, and bright yellow eyes. Her left arm is completely replaced with a robotic one, with two wires connecting the forearm to the reactor she carries on her back. She will always be seen carrying a small bag, in which a small reactor sits. She wears a sort of a belt with most of her smaller tools on it.

    Crew position: Engineer ( powerplant)
    SkillsMerits: maximizing the output of a machine, juryrigging and repairs
    Flaws: socialy inept, isn't much good with anything except machines.
    History: She was born of the vanderran earth cadre with the characteristic feline features including a long and bushy tail. Due to her talents and expectations as one of the earth cadre she was sent to one of the mining facility. For most of her life she worked on the machines that mined the metals they needed for the vanderrans machines.
    During one mishap however there was an accident that costs her arm, her tail and most of her sight, though luckily her other senses was left intact. She did not take the time to rest however, and insisted she continued work. A doctor from the air cadre however made her a new arm and showed her how to maintain it, and rebuilt it if it ever comes to that. She was reassigned to a ship after, and had been travelling ever since until the blockade came up.

    So....If I was a necromancer before...Is this an improvement?
    My challenge to myself from now on. I will accompany every IC post with a picture I draw, regardless of how bad it is. I may not be able to put one up if the potato I call my broadband acts up however.

    I like the Vanderrans, although it might be a bit better to just say "high gravity world" without being too technical about exactly how much gravity is there. But definitely an interesting character! Looks good so far, for the most part.

    Name: Dr. Michi Sato M.D.
    Gender: Female
    Age: 36 Galactic Standard Years (doesn't look a day over 30)
    Race: Achenaran
    Appearance: Average height with waist-length black hair kept in a single braid and deep green eyes. She is quite voluptuous with an hour-glass figure, large breasts, and a shapely bottom. Always dressed fashionably and rarely seen without a labcoat.
    Crew position: Ship's Doctor/Medic
    Skills: Medical expertise, Basic knowledge of firearms, intermeidate Martial Arts skill
    Merits: Full Medical Doctorate (including Xeno-Medical studies)
    Flaws: No combat experience
    History: Most of her childhood was spent preparing to become a doctor. Her parents were both doctors and expected her to follow in their footsteps. Unlike most children who have their lives planned by their parents Michi found that she really enjoyed medicine and charged through her studies at full speed. When she finally recieved her Medical Doctorate she had already been practicing medicine for several years. Unlike most Achenarans Michi was taught that medicine was a gift that should be given to all sentient beings and not just her own people. This kind of philosophy, however, was not very popular in the medical circle and so ten years ago she went to Vegalia Station with the help of a colleague to practice medicine without prejudice. Being on her own without resources or funding forced her to branch out to other communities for medical supplies, some were less reputable than others. Despite most race's disposition towards Achenarans, Michi persevered and established herself among the local medical communities. When the first Refugees started pouring out of Zikaren space Dr. Sato led the relief effort, going so far as to even fund the medical clinic out of her own pocket. She has held to her belief that medicine is a gift and believes that she can always help people. After several months of petitioning she facilitated Surian recognition of her clinic, allowing it to be funded by the Surian government thus freeing her to travel and further her medical knowledge and skills.

    Name: "Jabber Jaw"

    Gender: N/A

    Age: ?

    Race: G'lp (Pronounced as a gulping sound)

    Not much is known about the malformed G'lp as most tend to flee at the mere sight of them. What we do know is their home world is a dense and humid world covered in thick moss and lichen. As such, young G'lp are able to nestle within the foliage remaining moist and camouflaged as lesser creatures skitter about. With short bursts of speed, G'lp are able to engulf small creatures whole before settling back into their hiding place to slowly absorb nutrients from the prey.

    When it comes time for a G'lp to mate, the many mouths of a G'lp emit gibbering in various languages some long dead to all but the G'lp themself. This points to the idea that G'lp may very well have been around since the time of the Promethean. Further supporting this claim is the manner in which the G'lp actually reproduce. During mating, one G'lp will completely engulf another, swelling to twice its normal size. Folding numerous times in upon itself, the new G'lp then splits into numerous smaller G'lp. In this way, a G'lp can never die, simply be reformed and, as such, memories and thoughts are passed not through oral tradition as one might expect, but rather through the very being of the G'lp.

    Appearance: Sentient amoeba the color of human flesh covered in eyes and mouths that constantly form and reform.

    Spoiler

    Crew position: Translator / Archivist / Security

    Skills:
    - Practiced and naturally gifted in Intimidation / Interrogation
    - Mastery of nearly all languages
    - Sleeps with AT LEAST one eye open

    Merits:
    - Intimate knowledge of the Syndicate and its dealings

    Flaws:
    - Only able to move in disjointed bursts
    - In arid climates the skin of a G'lp becomes brittle and it becomes susceptible to shattering
    - Jabber Jaw has lost connection with the G'lp effectively damning it to waste away

    History: Born as any other G'lp, "Jabber Jaw" (as it would come to be known) started life with a division. As it had done many times before, Jabber Jaw knew without thinking it would be time to feed soon. Moving each of its parts collectively into position, it lied in wait over a mile of mossy stretch as insectoids and other small creatures skittered into its open maws. This time, however, would be different.

    The first thing out of the ordinary was the silence. The other wildlife had ceased to flutter. Something was coming. Out of the sky dropped wave upon wave of vessels, cascading from the heavens and unto the G'lp's home world. The Syndicate had come looking for new planets on which to set up secret bases of operation and scavenging what they could from the lush planet.

    It didn't take long for the Syndicate to discover the G'lp, nor was it difficult to catch the erratic creatures as they could only move in bursts. The G'lp felt a new sensation that day...death. One after the other, time and time again, the G'lp would feel his life ebb away at the hands of the Syndicate's brutes. To die so many times over was more than Jabber Jaw could bear, thrashing and gnawing at its captors, folding in upon itself, cursing the Syndicate in dead tongues until it finally collapsed, broken from its kind.

    Awaking some time later, Jabber Jaw was in a cage resting in the cargo hold of a Syndicate Vessel. Out of the dark stepped a man, rigid and studious. He spoke in the same dead tongue as Jabber Jaw, introducing himself as a Historian and Businessman. In exchange for Jabber's Services, the Syndicate would leave his planet in peace and never again disrupt the G'lp. Having severed his connection to the G'lp, Jabber Jaw had no way of knowing whether any still lived, but agreed in many tongues, eyes swelling and contracting in the dark, trying to make out the man's face.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~
    In the following few months, Jabber Jaw worked as intimidation and interrogation, using its obscene form and ability to drive individuals mad through constant contradictory babble. When the required information was obtained, Jabber Jaw disposed of the victims be absorbing their very essence as he had back on his home world. Sentient creatures however were not so easily absorbed. Their pangs of terror and despair lived forever on in Jabber Jaw, much like the G'lp and their collective consciousness. Eventually, it became too much and Jabber Jaw went rogue, quietly working to sabotage the Syndicate and needing a way out.
    I like this character. Will need to bring her up to date on the latest medical technology, called the Chrysalis Machine. It's a pretty cool device.
    This is a very... interesting, and unexpected type of character. The main thing to note is that the Syndicate would have violated the Second Interstellar Law by invading his underdeveloped planet. The Second Interstellar Law basically states that it's illegal to interfere in the activities of species that don't have FTL travel, and it's the only reason Earth humans are ignorant to the existence of all these FTL civilizations.
    The other thing is, the Syndicate War has only really been going on for a few months now, so the "for years after that" would likely need to be reduced to "For weeks or months after that". Aside from that, well... very interesting character. Wondering how to even communicate with it, heh.
    Also, if you're working for the Syndicate currently, you wouldn't be able to start out on Vegalia, unless you were "Rescued" or something by Surian scientists.
    I'm very tempted to recycle my viskevans from Stars of Eden (who were actually from an earlier idea of mine where they were of offshoot of humanity). Gimme some time to think of something sufficiently different.
    I'd be most interested in being the communications officer, but I'd also wouldn't mind of the technicians if WittyReference has taken it.
    Edit: Would it be acceptable if my character's civilization had not been formally discovered, and my character was just out there adventuring for whatever reason?
    Well unless you're from a different arm of the galaxy (at least a half a year away by ship), you've probably been documented by someone in the Orion Arm. However, there may not be any formal relations established, and you might also be masquerading as a different race (there are several races that are difficult to distinguish from humans, for example).
    The human-like aliens are one of the things that I am pretty lenient about.
