    After Earth
(Momentarily known as Shattered Stars)(Briefly known as Beyond the Shattered Stars)
    (Formally known as After Earth)

In the final days of man, the skies burned a vibrant red, and the wretched cries of mortals soared to the heavens. We called ourselves gods, for the universe laid at our feet. However, nature proved that even the mightest species can be wiped from existence with ease. The sun, our star, went supernova, and the mighty fires consumed the Earth until nothing remained in it's place. The more religious amung us call that day 'The Day of Judgment', but the wiser name it for what it is: the day humanity's luck ran out.

In the days before Earth's destruction, the collective minds of our species put thier differences aside, and seeked a salvation for our kind. The greatest scientists humanity had to offer created the Arks. Space ships of biblical scale, constructed to whisk a select fraction of our kind to saftey, so that with Earth perished humanity might yet live on.

Our forefathers boarded the Ark, and no words could possibly describe the feelings they must have felt as they watched the Earth from space. Shrinking as they ventured to saftey, leaving billions to die in the flames. No one can imagine what the crew must have been thinking as they pushed the button, the button which propelled the Arks untold light years from Earth, and into the unkown. To escape the wrath of the dying Sun, our forefathers sacrificed the saftey of everything they knew, and in return, the remnants of humanty were transported by the Arks into deep space, where the hope of survival lies always at the fingertips, just out of reach.

We now live in a world constructed entirley by man. All human civilization exists either in orbital stations, or as domes contructed on the faces of large rogue asteroids wandering the great, empty void. We build artificial gravity wells on the asteroids to create atmospheres, we use machines to generate oxygen, and the only thing that keeps each asteroid from tumbling back into space is a delecate gravitational pull emmited from each circling asteroids. We manufacture everything to keep us alive. It is starting to take more resources and energy to keep our species alive then we can produce, and manking will begin to dwindle into extinction.

    The Story Thus Far

We stay alive by harvesting what little resources the asteroids we call home can offer. Strict population control laws are in place, prohibiting any family to have more then a single child, if any at all. Children are a rarity, and when this generation passes away the generation following us will only be 1/4 of our numbers, and there are only 20,000 of us left. As it stands, no one expects our species, humans, to live another 10 years. Because in ten years, we will have depleted our precious asteroids, and the energy that it takes to sustain us cannot itself be sustained. However, there is good news. A rogue asteroid is tumbling through space, only a few days distance from the small asteroid cluster we call home. Scientists predict there are enough resources on the asteroid to sustain us for another twenty five years, and so small teams of skilled crews have been sent out in an attempt to 'reel' the astroid in, or bring it close enough to our little cluster to be captured by our gravity wells.

Captain Moore and his crew: Jaycee, Elizabeth, Ray and Charlotte have been dispatched as an elite squad tasked with capturing the asteroid.

    Character Skeleton

    Name:
    Species:

Role: (What position do you want on the ship? Preferably anything but pilot, doctor, or captain)
    Appearance: (Quality over quanity)
    Bio:

Can't decide which species you would like to play as? Here is some advice:

If you want to play a combat / honor oreinted character, an Amarian may suit you. Imagine what would happen if you crossed a Space Samurai with a Vulcan from star trek, and you would get an Amarian. As an Amarian, you would be neutral towards Paratians and Tischman, but hostile towards Advent and Visari.

If you want to play a character with a lot of room for inner development, Advent may be a good choice. Advent were created to replicate human emotions, and they believe they are alive. For example, if a 'friend' dies, an Advent's eyes will water up, he/she will know she is supposed to ACT sad, but he/she won't know what it truly means to BE sad; the don't know what it means to feel emotions. Also, as an Advent you would likely question "What it means to be alive?" Afterall, are you truly alive? like you wish to believe? or is the galaxy right in claiming you are simply a mechanical creation designed to serve organics? As an Advent, you would be neutral towards everyone.

If you want to play a character with a large capacit for empathy, and want to form close relationships with other players in the RPG, Paratian may be for you. The tendrils one the back of thier head allow Paratians to share memories, emotions, and feelings. The process of doing such is considered to be very inimate amung Paratians, and they rareley do so with other species. While the ability to bond with crew mates on a deep level isn't exclusivley Paratian, they do it very well, and a lot of possibilites for inter-character relations are open here. As a Paratian, you would be friendly with Tischman, netural towards Visari and Amarians, but Hostile to Advent.

If you want to be a tiny genius, Tischman may be for you. In addition to thier cute size and genius, they face very series ethical dellemas. For example, the Tischman, as a species, were once enslaved by the Amarians. Only recently were they liberated by the Paratians. In addition to that, thier homeworld was ravaged, and much of thier culture was destroyed. Imagine being a member of a race still recovering from not only slavery, but losing your identity as a people. As a Tischman, you would be friendly towards Paratians, neutral towards Visari, and hostile to Amarians. Tischman opinion of Advent varies greatly from individual to individual.

If you want to be a member of a species struggling to find a home, and an identity, Visari may be for you. Unlike the other species, Visari no longer have a homeworld (Salvation, but so few Visari know of Salvation it can't be considered an established homeworld). On top of that, your species was once mighty rulers of the galaxy, reduced to a scattered nation struggling for survival. Visari have tons and tons of room for character development, you can play the lost soul looking for a home, or the angry alien hell bent on revenge. As a Visari you would be neutral towards Paratians and Tischman, but hostile to Amarians and Advent.

That being said, if you want to make a Visari character who loves Amarians, or a Amarian who loves advent, you can do so. I was mereley suggesting 'how you should feel' towards a specific species , how you want your character to interact with other species and characters is entirley up to you.

    Role: Mechanic - Pilot
    Name: Elizabeth Cutter
    Age: 24
    Gender: Female

Appearance: Elizabeth has dark blonde hair that she keeps tied up most of the time. She is a fairly attractive woman however is far more concerned with the situation at hand, often having dirty smudges on her face and in her hair from her work. She has a very slim body shape – which is more so a result of the tight rationing situation than anything else. She wears practical clothing for her role – wearing a dark blue jumpsuit with her utility belt strapped across her waist and heavy boots. She also has a leather pilot’s jacket that was her great grandfathers – however it has obviously been repaired several times over the years. She tries to be as happy as possible but sometimes the bleakness of their situation can get to her which sometimes shows.

Bio: Elizabeth was born on one of the few asteroids that civilisation has come to call home. Her parents had always wanted a larger family however due to the strict birth control laws they were only aloud one child. Her father was one of the engineers responsible for the salvaging of the arcs and maintaining the fragile life support systems that maintained their atmosphere and gravity – after his father. He wanted Elizabeth to take over from him however her eyes were always gazing out to the stars, as she dreamt of one day seeing a planet in all of its beauty. As she got older she realised that her dream would most likely remain just that – a dream. Her great grandfather had been the oldest man alive when she was a child and he had often talked about when he was a young boy on earth and his own father who was a pilot – before he had died he had told her to never give up on her dream and had given her the pilot’s jacket.

She became one of the very few pilots and with her engineering knowledge skills she quickly rose to be the best and most resourceful individuals striving for the survival and success of humanity. Now she is an adult Elizabeth does everything she can to help their situation and instead dreams of a day where the human race is not constantly threatened by a lack of resources.

Other: Victoria spends what little free time she has designing many new devices, gadgets and technologies – however without the resources to test or construct anything they have thus far remained on paper. She is an expert mechanic and can fix nearly everything as long as she has the resources – the obvious challenge being without resources for the most part can make things a little difficult.

    Role: Mechanic - Co-Pilot
    Name: Jaycee Turner
    Age: 21
    Gender: Female

Appearance: Jaycee has a small, compact frame, standing at about 5 foot 2 inches, putting her a little bit on the short side. Her size makes her perfect for working in tight, hard to reach spots. Because she spends most of her time as a mechanic climbing or crawling around, she keeps her brown hair short and easy to maintain, cropped off just below her ears. Having never seen the sun, she has an incredibly pale complexion, offset only by the dark brown of her eyes.
Her uniform closely resembles Elizabeth's, consisting of a grey jumpsuit, rather than a blue one, with the same utility belt strapped across her waist. Heavy black boots and gloves help her navigate the innards of the ship, and she often wears a simple thick black coat over her outfit when she is not working.

Bio: Jaycee was, for lack of a better term, an accident, the younger of a set of twins. Due to protocol, she was taken from her parents, who were allowed to keep only her older sister. Originally, the newborn had been scheduled for a prompt termination, which created a rift between all members of law enforcement. A large fight ensued, between those who thought it inhumane to kill an infant, and those that found it more important to preserve the human race at any and all costs. In the end, a single man, one of the principal engineers, volunteered to adopt her, not as a daughter, but an apprentice. A deal was made, stating that he would teach her the necessary skills she would need to replace him, therefore aiding the colony rather than becoming a burden.
Jaycee grew up without any parental guidance or love, knowing nothing outside of her studies, and the expectations that were placed upon her. Fortunately, she grew passionate about her job; working with machines became second nature to her, and she set her sights on greater goals - ships. Ever since her teacher and adoptive father told her grand tales of the five arcs, she has been dreaming of a chance to see one herself.

Other: Jaycee is still young and still learning. Though she is an incredible engineer, she doesn't have nearly as much knowledge or skill as a pilot. Having spent her entire life as an apprentice, she treats her job as a co-pilot in the same manner, looking up to Elizabeth as both a mentor and a superior.
Having worked with machines for so long, she is a bit stiff when dealing with other humans, often coming off as a bit dense and sometimes blunt. Nonetheless, she is always trying her best, and can be upbeat despite almost any situation.

    Charlotte McKnight

    Role: Medical Specialist
    Name: Charlotte "Charlie" McKnight
    Age: 31
    Gender: Female
    Appearance:

Bio: The world Charlotte grew up in was a small one, and still shrinking. It was strict too; strict laws, strict diets, strict power usages. There's something about living in a dying civilization that hardens a person, or breaks them, but it was all she knew. She grew up as an only child, as the majority of the children in the asteroid colony grew up. She was trained in basic knowledge of the functions of her unit, and always showed a keen fascination for the sciences. She was a brilliant student and quick learner and began training in the medical field at a young age. She would have preferred to go into something more exploratory, but her world did not offer that kind of luxury. A medic was needed, and when there is a need the citizens are obligated to fill it whenever possible.
Even so, she grew to enjoy her work and because of it she became acquainted with a great number of other colony members and is well known for her patience and friendliness. She is also a strict enforcer of many basic health rules, since if a disease were to break out in such small living spaces as were available, it would be rather difficult to clean up, and so she is something of a "neat freak" in that regard, as a result she tends to be a very organized person.
Recently she has been dealing with the death of her father, a maintenance worker killed in an accident, and her relationship with her mother is somewhat distant, although the two of them are on good terms. She has a few friends, but nobody who is particularly close to her and she likes it that way.
    Weapon: N/A
Other: Although necessity has forced Charlotte to pursue medical practice, she has always had a fascination with the way things work on a scientific level, especially technology and in animatronics and robotics. She is constantly toying with improving her tools with fine-tuned animate abilities for delicate procedures and the like and spends a great deal of time designing new ones. Most of which, however, don't turn out to be functional, yet still she perserveres.

Expect the IC to be up tomorrow or Friday. Still waiting on a Combat Specialist.

  10. #10
    Role: Combat Specialist
    Name: Ray Barreton
    Age: 33
    Gender: Male
    Appearance:

Bio: Nobody would typically know the fact from simply observing him, but Ray's family was once a fairly experienced weapons manufacturing company, when Earth still existed. Their exodus into space had them still try to keep their "legacy" intact, but it fell apart slowly when there lacked a need for large amounts of guns. Additionally, the supplies needed for said guns were prioritized for much more important things, and weapons were practically outlawed due to the risk of other humans possibly being murdered. Regardless, the few pistols, rifles and ship-based weapons they supplied remained in circulation around the colonies, every so often reproduced, legally or otherwise.
Ray's generation isn't even aware of the crafting skill the family once possessed, but still wasted no time learning of weapons and their functions, still traits that run almost in instinct for them. Even the hard-pressed governing of a decaying species didn't do much to dissuade Ray's enthusiasm to learn of battle of weaponry. His family was one of the few, in fact, who had official permission to even own weapons, let alone know how to use them. At least some form of defense was necessary for humanity, and Ray was rather proud to know he was one of the ones they depended on for such protection.
But growing up was difficult. He had to learn to shrug off the teasing influences of other children who knew of Ray's "special privileges." Ray was usually told it was because of jealousy, but even then he was never exactly sure that was true. Ray lived the life of a social outcast somewhat due to this, and so obtained a rather serious guise to protect himself from suspicion. He wanted no part in the assumption of the many that he was a possible risk of humanity, no matter how true it may have been. It was a rarity for Ray to see someone who actually appreciated what he did, a cold truth that made him a bit depressed, but still hopeful to perform his duty: in the hopes he can earn the trust of those he has to fight for.
    Weapon: Plasma Pistol
(I'm unaware of the specific weapon tech, so I'm putting a little assumption here. A handgun that fires up to 16 bolts of superheated energy; can be vented for a cooler, suppressing shot, or a high-power heated shot. Powered by an atomic battery. If this isn't what you had in mind, contact me.)
