As others have said, it's not a great idea and level separation works best. Genre tags would be nice, though.

Except too many RP's don't fall under a single genre.

[InsertTypeHere/Here/Here] would likely work just as well - just people who have to type it in themselves.

The cool thing about genre tags is clicking on a tag and only seeing other threads by that tag. Other is something I'd use, but tags like action or romance, would be more widely applicable than say, fantasy or sci-fi.

I would assume there would be punishment laid out to those who put unrelated tags in their roleplays, yes? Tag spam is not uncommon.

    This guy.

Genre tags could be a great compromise, not because I believe separating by Genre is bad (as those with the one-liner responses of 'no' so eloquently put), but because they'd have a hell of a time operating under our current organization. Tags, however, could give us some of the benefits the OP is aiming for without too much fuss.

As far those who exist under several themes, if we can type our own, or simply choose the greatest theme we'd like to emphasize, the problem is averted. The same could be said about any film, really. Although Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is in fact a Sci-Fi, very much similar to We Can Remember it to You For Wholesale (Total Recall), the former is clearly more focused on Romance, Consciousness, or Drama. The latter, probably a truer fit if dubbed SciFi. I feel the depth of tags would likely range, probably more intricate and finely tuned in Casual or Advanced since Free is generally meant to be an easier passage to get started.

Tags don't need to be the save-all. By using them, we can give people a quick and dirty insight into what things might be. Like Kestrel said, some titles give you a nice idea right off the bat. But others do not, and sometimes a clearly dubbed theme can be what has us opening the thread. If the GM has extra information they want to give because their RP is an original, SciFi, inter-species Romance with heavy Action... well, that's just fine once we've already jumped into the thread, right?

    Genre Tags: Yes

    Another tip on this topic:

Coming up with a cool creative title for your RPG is all well and good, but it makes it easier at a glance if you follow it up with a brief genre description in parentheses after the title itself. Some titles are clear enough in themselves, but it still makes it easier for people to search if it's right there in front of them.

    For example:

    Bullets and Blasters

Comes across rather vague, compared with:

Bullets and Blasters (Western meets Alien Invasion)
