I'm a tolerably good artist and I might be interested in this if I know what the story premise is.
For the Artists
What I find frustrating and the cause of most RP deaths is the horrendous lack of character developement. So, I have a new idea, and I think it will appeal to the artists among us the most but there's nothing from stopping a regular joe with a pencil and paper from giving it a shot.
Here is my idea. I give you a story premise, say fantasy, one character is an elf-like person, the other is a dragon. To apply for a spot in the RP, you have to literally create this character. Don't go to Google Images and seach: elf and dragon, because I will know. You will be given time to create and artwork of these characters, something wholly yours, your own masterpiece. As you create the character, think about them, think about who they are and think about how you can portray that in your art. It doesn't have to be set in stone or horribly realistic, but I want you to think it's beautiful, and I have to be able to tell something about that character from how you have portrayed them. It can be any medium: digital, paint, colored pencils, sharpie markers, scratchboard, whatever and this image will be the base foundation for your character sheet.
I'm hoping that this style of character creation will reduce drop outs and loss of interest if the players have actually worked really hard on making the characters' images as best as they possibly can.
I don't know how many of you out there care about deeper story developement, but I do, so drop a note here. Yay or nay. I personally think it would be a lot of fun and if this idea catches on I'll go more into detail about the criteria for the picture but for now I just want to know if anyone would do it.

So far, I'm thinking the premise will be a fantasy land inhabited by a race of people known as the Rutoans, small elf-like people who live in various clans spread out over their world with varying cultures. Their world is inhabited by all sorts of creatures we would deam "mythological" e.g. the dragon, the wavyrn, the griffin, the sleipnir, the unicorn, etc. Each clan has a representative of one of the more mighty species of beasts and it is ingrained in their culture to train the animals (for they are animals in this world, albeit intelligent animals) for their own purposes, mainly for battle as they are constantly at war with each other.
From youth the Rutoans are to choose a young member of their representative beast to raise and train, even if they are not destined to become warriors. Our plotline would follow young members of a clan (perhaps not all from the same one, if we want to add a bit of variety) as they choose and train their beast under the mentorship of veterans.
Another idea I have been toying with is the idea of the Rutoans being elementalists, that is, an individual having the gift of being able to control one of the four elements. I may expand this to include other abilities but it's still in the processing stages in my brain.
Interesting?

Because I feel that if a player works really hard on creating a completely customized image of their character that they will feel a better connection to them and be less likely to drop out. Hence this thread is titled "for the artists" because I wasn't so sure that non-artistic people felt the same way about something they might draw. Personally, when I draw something or someone, it becomes a character in my mind, with a personality and history so I thought that this would be an interesting exercise if I can find any other like minded people.
I like the idea of having a representative animal. I made a few sketches a while back of a pretty awesome winged wolf for a story idea.
Mhm, the idea is vaguely based off the original "How to Train your Dragon" books, but will be set in a more fantasy-ish world. My original thought was for the trained beasts to only be dragons but then I started wondering "why not griffins? or other mythical creatures?" hence the various clans. I'm thinking I will come up with a unique culture for each one, and not all of them will be warring, obviously there will be treaties and friendships, although intermarrying between clans is pretty much forbidden so we could have an interesting romance happening on the side somewhere too.
All right, cool.
I'm very interested ^-^
