Name: Explorator T3-NR "Tanner"
Age: 45
Species: Adeptus Mechanicus Human cyborg
Appearance: Tanner stands 6"2 tall. Most of his torso, his right arm, and both legs are replaced with mechanical bionics. His left arm remains completely organic, and is adorned with tattoos of the Mechanicus and of the tech-saint Selina (A half-angelic, half-machine woman in robes, printed in black ink). His right eye is a gold-tinted bionic while still possessing a organic blue left eye and raggedly short blonde hair.
Tanner always wears Mechanus carapace armor and a red robe over it. He doesn't possess any back-mounted servo-arms, but has plugs for mind-machine interfaces in his spine. When off-ship, he often wears a helmet.
Personal Equipment:
Omnisah Halberd-tool (Dresden Pattern)- Tanner wields a odd hybrid of a power-halberd and a combi-tool, a tool often given to new Explorators on the Forge World of Dresden. Tanner prefers to use it more like a spear rather than a axe, and is also a useful tool in using technology.
Hellgun/Hellpistol (Dresden Assault Pattern)- Tanner prefers a Dresden-made hellgun to more exotic bolt weaponry, due to the las-weapon's durability and large power supply from a backpack power core. The downside is that the Dresden pattern hellgun tends to overheat and needs barrel changing if used too much. Tanner can also switch to a lighter hellpistol if needed.
Grenade Launcher/ grenades/ rocket launcher/ melta bomb- Its very hard to dissuade Tanner from trying to sneak some form of explosive weapon along whenever he has to step foot on a planet, after one too many mishaps with danger with Verandis.
Implants: Mind-Machine Interface implant/jacks, bionic right eye, vitae life-support implants.
Background:
Tanner was born in a Mechanus Creche, born by order of a long-term planning board which called for several thousand new Explorators to meet a sudden need for archeotech. Since the day of his birth, he has had no say in his fate.
Tanner's early studies on Dresden are nothing remarkable, save for a five-year shift he served on the battleship refit crew. Laboring and repairing a relic of a long-gone era has ingrained a deep respect for archeotechnology into Tanner, and emphaisizing the purpose of his role as Explorator. The battleship cannot be fully repaired without parts that can no longer be made in any part of the galaxy any more, and its up to explorators such as Tanner to find the needed parts to finally restore Infinity. A duty he takes very seriously.
Tanner's first expedition as a Explorator was a mission to a Dresden research outpost to recover uncovered archeotech under the guidance of Explorator Primus V1-NR "Victoria". What was meant to be a easy retrieval of relics turned into a nightmare when the automated factory discovered was corrupted and its automated systems turned against its makers, with no data to be retrieved and ultimately resulting in needing to orbitally bombard the site as pirate raiders arrived. Then things go from bad to worse with a gellar field flicker causing major damage to the explorator's ship, then repairs being complicated by a hostile port and incapacitation of his mentor. Tanner’s own inability to understand non-Dresden’s also contributed towards his rude awakening to the alienness of the galaxy beyond his previously sheltered existence, culminating by accidentally grievously insulting a nearby Rogue Trader and forcing a exchange of broadsides between their two ships, killing the Rogue Trader in the process.
Said Rogue Trader was the near-pirate Theimer Harken, and by local salvage law, Tanner now owned his frigate, which included a partial STC printout for plasma relays buried among the treasure coves. Practically overnight, Tanner’s own fame and respect skyrocketed among both his crew, the locals, his mentor, and the Dresden Mechanicus hierarchy for the recovery of such a precious artifact despite terrible odds. This also put him in the outlier category of “lucky explorator”, as per directive of his planning board who took into account non-rational occurrences and set up a quota for equally nonrational events. With the death of the previous “lucky explorator”, the Fabricator General was more than pleased to have a replacement to fill the gap in the paperwork and promptly bumped Tanner up the ranks to class-A Explorator and sent him deeper into unknown territories for more archeotech. All at the age of 35, and far beyond his position otherewise.
Since then, Tanner has been running up and down the neighboring Tyran sub-sector seeking archeotechnology and running into endless numbers of enemies that seek to suppress, destroy, and manipulate it to their own ends. More often than not, Tanner’s adventures can be mostly summed up as a series of unfortunate and near-disastrous events and decisions, with only a chance happening at the end of his voyage actually yielding any good results.
After his time in the Tyran sub-sector, Tanner was reassigned to the Rogue Trader Verandis as part of her tech-trade pact to act as watchdog over Verandis. During this, he was reunited with his mentor Victoria, who promtly turned command of the Mechanicus part of the expedition to him so she could avoid having to deal with a possibly erratic Rogue Trader and focus on her research. Leaving Tanner all the responsibility as head explorator under Verandis.
Despite some initial discord between Tanner and the Rogue Trader, who felt insulted by having to deal with a subordinant at first, Tanner gradually proved his worth to her through deeds and being something of a divining rod for archeotech.
