This looks... interesting. Very cool, in fact. I couldn't help but think 'Emiya Shirou' about your Mr. Swords example, however. In fact, was this, in any way, influenced by Nasuverse? Seems kinda similar, to me.

I do have a question, though. What would happen with an incarnation of a concept? How would their powers manifest, and how would they become transformed?

This is influenced by any number of things. Recent games, online conversations, books, and yes, the Nasuverse. However, don't expect this world to operate on metaphysics like the Nasuverse; frankly, those are far too complicated and screwy for me to even begin trying to unravel.

An Incarnation of a Concept often becomes what could be seen as the physical representation of the Concept. An Incarnation of Hunger, for example, could gain a great deal of mouths, teeth, claws, and various other implements used for the task of feeding hunger. An Incarnation of Hope could become a literal beacon, changing not so much physically as simply increasing in general stats and inspiring hope and good feelings in those around them. In addition, an Incarnation of Hope would be a very hopeful person, likely to an absolutely insane degree, just as an Incarnation of Hunger would always feel hungry and an Incarnation of Swords would feel more at ease in battle and nearby swords.

Really, it all depends on what you select. Somethings are easier for me to figure out the mechanics and implications of than others, but ultimately all are possible and available.

Well, the idea I had was the Incarnation of Acceleration. It rhymes, and I think it would be quite... interesting. How would you say something like that would work, in general?

Natural tendency to, well, accelerate. Drastically so. It's not speed in and of itself, but rather increasing in speed, so your character would be able to do so to potentially infinite degrees, though that would depend on their level of skill with transformations. Physical transformations would involve streamlining of the body and a 'blur' effect that could really screw with someones eyes, until eventually you'd be nothing but a darting streak of semi-human. Might be able to twist it to gain wings or increase leg strength, ect ect.

Scorpion? That one's easy. When they first start out they'd get generally random mutations; their skin turns into chitin, they might grow a tail, maybe even start drooling poison. Once they've 'mastered' it they could do anything from turning into a swarm of poisonous scorpions to having three massive poison-spewing tails sprouting from their back.

They would also, of course, be far more inclined towards the mindsets, instincts, and habits that a scorpion would have. Whether that's a benefit or drawback, well...

Working on a comprehensive backstory for the Empire right now.

Well after reading through all those big ol' wall of texts, this does sound very interesting and well thought out(and major props for coming up with all of it) . Though she'll ask what kind of posting standard you'd be looking for in this? Would defiantly be interested in something like this but never played in advanced sooo, not sure if she'd be up to par. heh.

I have to say, I am really liking how this is looking. I have a few questions though. Technology/Science. How advanced are they? You mentioned lightbulbs, which brought up this question for me. I'm assuming people study either magic or science, but are there people who mix both?

And my second question goes... Back to Incarnations, actually. Or rather, a series of relatively small questions that I'm curious about. What would an Incarnation of God be like? Are there any Incarnations which logically should not and/or do not exist, such as an Incarnation of Suicide, or an Incarnation of Humanity?
