One Piece: Under the Sands of Amduat (OOC)

It is 1520, Age of Pirates, and the denizens of the world are getting restless.

Twenty years ago, moments before his execution, Gold Roger claimed that he left a great treasure behind. Rumors quickly spread, and eventually, it was believed that the treasure, the One Piece, was hidden somewhere in the Grand Line. These rumors soon exploded, and people were guessing its location was in increasingly unlikely places. But as years went on, searches expanded, and the Grand Line became less mysterious to its own denizens. However, the One Piece was not found, and some began to disbelieve its existence.

However people began to turn their attentions to island which had not been search. Four in particular stood out: Raftel, Olympus, Amduat, and Midgard. Each had their own reasons, the primary of which was that Roger had been known to set foot there. However, the reason they were not searched is because of their elusive nature. Raftel and Olympus were nearly impossible to reach, with so few stories coming from them that some weren’t sure if the islands existed at all, let alone served as the hiding place of the One Piece. While easier to reach, Midgard and Amduat were coated in mysteriousness and danger, with so few returning from deep searches.

However, one month ago, a survivor from an expedition into Amduat claimed the One Piece was hidden in the sands. The news caught fire and spread due to a similar report from a Marine research team, claiming that the natives to Amduat have been protective of something in their caverns, and that Roger had been down there. This news has sparked a wave of pirates in search of the treasure. How many of them will find what lies beneath the burning sand of Amduat?

Your character will be on one of the crews looking for treasure (or otherwise adventuring) in Amduat. However, this will be a little different from other One Piece RPs in that I will be the GM, but not playing my own specific character. Rather, I will be controlling many NPCs and the world itself. You will be controlling NPCs and your own character. This is mostly an experiment to see how well this format works for me in Freeform (as the GM typically takes this type of role in a dice-based RP), but mostly, we’re here to have fun!

[b]Backstory:[/b] Should adequately explain why your character is who he is, where they came from, some of his adventures on his crew of choice, and why they are on Amduat if they are a Captain. It should also explain how they earned their powers and skills.

[b]Strength Level:[/b] This refers to the Character’s strength in relation to the others. There are four options: Captain, Monster, Medium, and Low. There will only be three characters of Monster level or higher per crew, including Captain, even if one leaves the game after it begins, so I will expect good sheets from them. Think of the levels as this: Luffy is Captain, Zoro is Monster, Franky and Brook are Medium, Nami and Usopp are Low (Pre-Timeskip, at least). If I feel a crew has too many Mediums over Lows or vice versa, I will mention it.
[b]Fighting Style and Devil Fruit:[/b] (Fruit optional, and name should be in English)
Be as detailed as possible. No Color of Observation or Color of the Conqueror Haki. If a character has Color of Armaments, they shouldn’t have anything else but a weapon at most, and a good explanation as to why the character can use it, but none at all for characters lower than Monster in strength level. For Fruits, no existing Canon or Filler Fruits, Logias, Mythical, or Awakened Zoans. It should have a non- Haki venerability or weakness if it is a Paramecia. Zoans and Ancient Zoans are fine. If you are curious as to why I have my restrictive limitations on Devil Fruits, there is a hider below explaining my thoughts.

When Amduat is described to someone whom has never been there, it is told as if it were Hell: burning sands and endless expanses surrounding a rocky wasteland. There is human life however, along a river that goes from one of the mountains to the southern seas, though they do not take kindly to outsiders, and are believed to be responsible for as many deaths as the wildlife and elements are. The natives are said to be ruled by their Sun King, whom orders the execution of any foreigner who gazes upon him. He is protected by his mighty warriors, the Helians, whom are responsible for keeping incursions from foreign powers at bay.

There is also believed to be an expanse of caverns underneath the island, where secret cults and untold mysteries dwell. It is claimed that Gold Roger and the Roger Pirates were the only ones whom reached the caverns and returned alive, until the recent, sole survivor.

Dozens of pirate crews have sailed to the island and try to explore it, looking for the famous One Piece. The natives have responded by blockading their cities, allowing visitors only into the dock city of Hawara, walled on all sides of the city, and most of the rest of the island bordered by cliffs. Even if someone docked elsewhere, they’d be lost, several days of travel away from any other signs of life along the Zawyet River.

Beyond that, the island is surrounded in myth and legend. From beast people stalking the dunes and caves, demons walking the sands, massive serpents in the river, or the countless theories about what lies in the depths, countless stories are told.

Devil Fruits are very tricky. If mishandled, it could easily result in unbalancing things. Unbalanced doesn’t necessarily mean overpowered however. I feel they need to be handled with care to avoid disrupting the game.

I disallow Canon and Filler Devil Fruit for two reasons: balance and originality. I can be talked into letting someone use one if they have original and fitting uses for one, or their character concept requires it. However, both require thought put into it that doesn't show if they just put ‘Gum Gum Fruit’ on their sheet and called it a day. The other reason is balance. I could either cherry pick which Fruits are too broken or not and disallow them or take the easier route and restrict them all. Paramecias like the Shadow Shadow Fruit, Ope Ope Fruit, and Paw Paw Fruit are just some examples on how powerful some Canon Fruits really are.

Logias are restricted for balance reasons. A Logia would only be balanced if any person could theoretically beat one without Seastone or Haki. Many of them are virtually invincible and even ones with common weaknesses like the Sand Sand Fruit can’t be challenged with their weakness every fight, else it would become repetitive and boring to read. Going by this, the only Canon Logia that could be allowed is the Dark Dark Fruit, which likely has abilities yet to be explained, as Blackbeard calls it the strongest Devil Fruit, despite having fairly weak abilities shown. If a Logia with a very common weakness that everyone could utilize, it might be possible, but doing so without becoming weak and unbalanced is very difficult. A user of say, the Oil Oil Fruit would be extremely venerable to a simple gunshot.

Mythical and Awakened Zoans are also restricted. They are mainly restricted due to being mysterious and undeveloped. Are Mythical Zoans based on real or just Mythical creatures? What is a Awakened Zoan in the first place? Until developed in Canon, there no chance. Normal and Ancient Zoans are fine due to their simplicity.

Lastly, my other thoughts towards Devil Fruits. No two Fruits should be too alike. Each one should be useful and have abilities no other Fruit has, so keep that in mind. A Paramecia that just allows the user to create Ice like the Chilly Chilly Fruit would be disallowed because the Chilly Fruit is able to do that and so much more, making the Paramecia redundant. Fruits that are connected to the sea are contradictive: no creation or manipulation of water, salt, or Seastone, and no sea animal Zoans like Fish. Fruits that just increase natural traits every human is already capable of aren’t exceptional enough to be considered Devil Fruits.

PvP is never easy. It takes too long, arguments pop up about whose character can do what, and no one leaves happy.

But it’s bound to happen, especially in an action/adventure oriented RP such as this one, with players in separate factions. (in this case, the separate pirate crews). So, in an attempt to make it as easy as possible, I am going to make my suggestion for as to how PvP would play itself out.

Two characters get the itch to fight. Now, the players should decide ahead of time how the fight ends: who wins, who loses, or in neither case, how the fight breaks up. Ideally, only two people have their characters fight at a time, for ease and lack of too much complication, but it’s understandable to have more. Now, as for deciding who wins or loses, three things should be taken into account: Strength Level, Skills/Powers, and Writing.

Strength Level is simple; the character with the higher power wins more often.

However, it gets much more complicated with the involvement of Skills and Powers. If two swordsmen, one a Captain and one a Medium fought, it would be quite easy, but what if one was a Fruit user with the Chop Chop Fruit? What if a Medium strength Wax Wax Fruit user fought a Low strength Heat Heat Fruit user? Was if the womanizer who wouldn’t hit a woman was attacked by one? These sort of things are bound to happen, and have in canon. In these cases, Strength Level means less.

But the most important thing to take into account is Writing. If the sadistic, murdering Monster strength character beats the Low strength level crewmate of another ship, how do they survive? No one wants to lose a character when not prepared too, and it’s wrong to force someone into doing something they don’t want. A Captain getting his ass handed to him devalues his strength in game, and a character who takes the act of winning or losing very seriously might jump into a fight at an inappropriate time due to acting in character. If someone has plans for their character development Arc, it's best they don't get interrupted, taking the character in an unwanted, unintended direction.

When choosing who wins a fight, consider all options, and decide on which is best for keeping the game interesting and ensuring everyone is having fun. I’m always willing to offer my opinions should a standstill be reached.

As for writing the actual fight itself, one weakness of the PbP structure is the amount of posts required to make a good fight. Whenever one player acts, the other must react. With this in mind, I highly recommend using sync.in too write collaborative posts, in this case fights. By getting together, you can write much more than normal. By writing together, you could also make the fight more fluid, leaving out things like ‘If character reacts this way, then mine does this, but if this happens…’ and such. After finishing, I recommend splitting the post into two, then both posting a half, while also noting it is a collab post somewhere OOC in the post so everyone knows.

They're rockstars. William has a rule that his team has to be THIS-ammount of awesome to even think about joining his crew. They party hard, and they play hard. The vast mayority, are like William your typical famous over the top people, who most likely are always arrogant and shallow. He is basically all bark, little bite. But one thing he, and his crew are famous for is putting on a show. Their ship is called Eclipse. The Eclipse is a big ship, like, really big. In order to keep such a big ship clean and working, William have people working on it 24/7. In the lower decks, there's a nightclub, that is always popular, no matter wher the Outlaw Pirates docks. Despite William's high-bounty, most marines don't bother too much about him. They haven't done much serious crimes, after all. Well, they did after all wreck a Marine battle ship that was trying to board them mid-rave, but that was more so their guests, than the actual crew.

Eclipse is ill-prepared for combat, it's hull is made to be as steady as possible, but also meant to be completely water-proof, to not ruin any of the equipment onboard. The hired-crew is about 40 people. Everything from chefs to bartenders, to mercenaries to act as security.

The Bloody Fang Pirates

Sebastian runs his ship like an epicurean machine. He knows that if one man slacks, the rest will follow and as such, is quick to stomp out any fecklessness. Those who have served with Sebastian understand how to be on his good side and are often times rewarded. New recruits scrub the decks with toothpicks. The Ship that Sebastian calls his own is the Scarlet Lady. A large ship crewed by 60 men. The higher crew men are men and women that have earned their place through hard work and dedication. The Ship has bright red sails and is built from cherry wood, a homage to the captain. It's trimmings and handrails and mast is made from ebony wood. Sebastian hoists his Jolly Roger, a skull on a dark scarlet background with two fangs crossed underneath it, high at all times.

Personality: William "Passing Through" Hughes is the second mate of the Crimson Fang Pirates, and not by accident. A relatively calm man who rarely seems startled or uneasy, William is often referred to as the calm to his Captain's 'Storm.' Overly polite and caring even to his enemies he rarely relies on foul language or threats to get what he desires. He seems even apprehensive about fighting, and while he is willing to indulge he often seems to make a game out of how long he can keep the fight going before either fighter takes a hit.
Beyond his relatively polite nature, William is the victim of many quirks. One of which is an extreme sense of order, as he will spend hours cleaning and rearranging his living space. Everything must be neat and tidy, and in some cases it must be seen. Often times when using sabotage he has been known to arrange large displays to make everything more appeasing to the senses.

Fighting Style and Devil Fruit:
Devil Fruit - William devoured the Pass Pass Fruit, a Paramecia type. Shaped like a large pear with a hole in the center, the Pass Pass Fruit is often called the Untouchable Fruit. The man who eats this fruit gains the ability to make themselves intangible, allowing them to pass through walls and other humans. By using this to pass through enemies and obstacles the user becomes the ultimate spy and hunter.
Though, there is a significant flaw to this fruit. When in a fight, the user cannot attack without leaving themselves open to counter-attack. While it does leave the window of attack small, it can severely hamper the user's ability to hold an offensive for long periods of time, slowing the pace of a fight.
The user is also vulnerable to seastone and Color of Armaments Haki, which can cripple an otherwise unstoppable strategy.
Knife Usage - William wields knives as his primary weapons. Wrapping a belt of knives around his waist he relies on these as his primary form of offense.

Skills:
Espionage and Sabotage Mastery - Using his Devil Fruit power in combination with a high skill in stealth, William is capable of slipping past enemies undetected and sabotage their vessel or weapons.
High Analytical Skills - William is a master of analysis, allowing him to detect even minor changes in an environment. This is attributed to a photographic memory. He has shown a tendency to deduct the skill and power of his adversaries easily.
Cleaning - William cleans, a lot. He dusts, he polishes, and he rearranges the ship to keep it nice and pretty.

Cocky asshole. [Read: Chris Brown] He's arrogant and somewhat shallow. However, he never gets too worked up over things, no.
He likes to relax and not worry too much. He always talks more then he can actually fight, and have won more battles by running his mouth, then by swinging his sword. He loves his crew, and would only let people who could fight for him into his crew, of course, he'd protect his Nakama as best as he could.

His dream is simple, he wants fame, he initially set out to become a Warlord, but being the Marine's dog wouldn't really pan-out for him, no.

Powers and Abilities:
Koe Koe no Mi - Pass Pass Fruit.
William has eaten the Pass-Pass Fruit.

William can make an object, or to a limited extend, energies. ( such as Fire, Ice, etc, etc.) Pass right through him. He is able to pass through solid objects, too. However, he cannot affect anything physically while in his intangible form, should he say, stick his head through a wall, and deactive his power, he'd most likely die.

He can turn intangible for 9 seconds at one time. The rule of thumb is that for each second he's intangible, he needs to Recharge for twice that time, before he can do it again.

However, he does have a "Phase-mode", where he, in a short amount of time can flick it on and off in a quick succession. After using Phase-mode, he must recharge for 5x the amount of time that he used Phase-Mode. (I.E, he'd use PM for 6 seconds, he'd have to recharge for 30 seconds after.)

Skills:
Destined By The Stars: No one knows why, but something about William makes him easy to remember, and people tends to talk about him a lot, this is what have fueled his ego throughout the years.

Swordsmanship: An accomplished swordsman, far from a master. He wields a Nodachi in battle.

Speech: As previously stated, he talks. A lot. Frankly, he's actually pretty good at it.

Calm: Rarely getting worked up or stressed, only situation that can stress him is when people questions his obvious superiority.

Backstory:

Born and raised in North-Blue. His father was a drunk, and his mother was a barmaid. He came from a family of nobodies. Yet, from the day he was able to walk, people acknowledged him. He got complimented, and applauded for even the smallest of feats. His home island, Shiroua, featured everything he did in their newspaper, sure, it was a small-island. But, for no other reason than existing, William attracted attention.

he was expected to deliver greatness in the world. And ,he did. Even if he was a weakling, he still pushed into a life of combat, believing that he had to prove himself. When he was 14, he had already set out to the sea, his boat getting caught in a storm, and he was captured by a group of strong pirates.

However, managing to talk his way out of capture, William got them to join him, albeit temporarily. He got dropped off at a nearby island, where he found job working at a bar, as a bartender. His ideas for a life of partying began here, constantly drinking, and doing stupid things.

That was one group of pirates came. Carrying some strange fruit. A fruit from the devil, apparently. They wanted to find out what the fruit could do, and if it could do anything useful, they'd all eat a piece of it. As clearly, they were not THAT well-read on the use of Devil-fruits.

William didn't believe in the kind of crap like Devil Fruits. And call it his lack of superstition, or maybe it was the alcohol talking, but he ate the fruit. His body began changing, as he passed through the chair he sat on. Months went on, before he got some real grasp on his powers. He was training rather hard at the power of his fruit.

It took years before he had enough money to be able to get a small ship, but eventually ,he could buy a small boat.
He set out on the sea again, and began gathering his Outlaw pirates. His fame constantly crew, and eventually ,he had enough money to buy the gigantic ship that was Eclipse. A party-boat, really. Hiring a a crew that could fill the needs of the boat.

Now, he's one of the most notable rookies in the world.

Personality: Perla is the embodiment of calm, efficiency and loyalty. No matter the situation that she is in she always remains calm, even when being threatened with death or just REALLY bad jokes of the crew, and in truth they are worse... Because of this she appears cold, but is actually suppressing her emotions to focus on her goals, but she can often loses her temper in comical ways when her duty's are interrupted. This gives her a overall motherly like demeanor towards her Mistress and the crew. Her only and true Loyalty remains with her Mistress, that she values above all else, and despite their age still treats them like a small child in the world for the very first time, though those that truly know her can see it is harmless teasing. If she is given a order she will try her very best to do it, she can be very vigorous when she is determined to achieve said order, even regularly reverting to drastic measures to solve simple problems, suggesting solutions that others would normally consider to be their last possible, worst-case-scenario choices! Such as 'going fishing' means fishing for anything below the ship by diving down, even if its a sea king. However, if her Mistress is harmed or threatened Perla becomes a cold and raging weapon of destruction, where her visage of calm and collected breaks to show that she is in fact extremely intimidating, easily frightening weaker opponents with just her glare which is only increased due to her normally calm and kind self. Despite this, she has a kind heart, shown since she is willing to risk death for the sake of her mistress, her friends and also small and cute animals, that she makes quick and heart filled judgments on then and there.
Appearance:

Doll: Tiny doll like version of herself. This form looks in everyday the same as her hybrid form just small and very much mechanical in nature. Though small this small body can pack all the upgrades the hybrid form has obtained.
Human: Huge hulking mass of muscle and power. This is her fully human form and is made almost completely of flesh, but despite the offset of bleeding and none steel like her hybrid form she gains ungodly power.

Backstory: Perla is a Living Doll, born out of digesting the Human human fuirt she was brought into this world searching for a master, but after hiding the fruit within her body her master had long since been captured by the marines and taken to jail for stealing said human human fruit from a admiral. For years Perla has tried to find a place where she belonged within the world and soon enough she was discovered within her doll form by the captain of the Outlaw Pirates, but it didn't take long for them to discover the doll had been moving on its own this whole time. She was relived when one of the crew put down their gun from the captains orders and soon enough she joined up with the crew. Though her life has been short up to this point she knows that there are many more adventures ahead! Bring it on!

Strength Level:Monster
Fighting Style and Devil Fruit:
Perla uses a unique fighting style that is unpredicable to say the very least. She has no flesh to keep her limbs from moving in all directions she can pull off some insane fighting moves while being able to throw knives from any angle allows her to keep her enemies constantly within her fighting range. Though she has no upgrades as of yet that will allow her to pull off even more insane moves she still has her devil fruit power that allow her three modes of transformation; her human form and her doll forms are most used. Her thrid fighting form is like a OVERDRIVE of sorts for her body as it bypasses the limters of her body to be able to break through her foes! All of this makes her unpredictable to her enemies and a good show to her freinds.

Human Human Fruit: She was once a clockwork doll until one day someone tried to hide this fruit within Perla, and on intaking the fruit her clockwork insides chewed it up and allowed it to effect her! Now she is able to transform into several forms of herself, which range from her small doll form, a tall adult form and finally a combat form

Maniacal Body - In truth Perla has been upgrading her current body with high quality cybernetics, making her normally resin skin and iron insides into a much tougher form, such as black steel and kevlar like skin. She gains all the benefits of a cybernetic body because of this; such as the strong resistance and strength due to her strong steel insides, putting her at a advantage against normal humans, as her strength is normally greater then a normal humans and is essentially a living weapon, and there are also small weapons compartments within her body. She has a number somewhere on her body at the base of her neck, which shows a ∞ symbol in the numbers place.{Given she can not train her body to be better she needs to be upgraded like a cyborg}

Skills:
Cooking; Her cooking skill is that of mother level, and everyone knows that the best types of meals are those meals that remind you of home when on the high seas!
Cleaning: Being a maid looking doll Perla has picked up some cleaning skill and makes sure that the ship is nice and tidy!
Knife throwing: With the guys constantly bothering her in the kitchen she has been forced to threaten them with knives more than a few times, and over that time she has gotten rather damn good at it.
Hand to hand combat: Every maid has to be able to take off the trash, and when it comes to the outlaws ship she is more than happy to clean house for them >:3
