I'm not MIA. I'm just busy. Real life is getting the better of me, I fear. I haven't had time to finish writing up replies to all of your previous posts. Overall, I see a significant trend in where people want us to start. Lots of people think big cities are good options, others want to strike gold for locations that will provide ample water and food sources.
On the topic of big cities, these are densely populated areas so keep the following in mind:
- Lots of dead bodies laying out where they cannot be buried.
- Lots of rampaging monsters running about.
- No water when the power goes out.
- Without incoming food supplies from the surrounding area, they will be quick to dwindle.
Lots of places mentioned are 'bread bowls' now, but when electricity stops and irrigation stops, a lot of these places will dry up to the Sahara type atmosphere. (Other places, like LA and Phoenix will be MISERABLE when there is no electricity to keep the water flowing.)
As Goldmarble so thoughtfully pointed out, a lot of people have named locations for their characters already, which creates a troublesome bother for those who have filled out their character sheets already and sent them to me.
There was also lots of talk on the numbers of people who would be trying to live off the land that we chose. Keep in mind that lots of these people will die or be turned, they won't be all competing. I don't think I've clarified this enough but there is about to be a MASSIVE loss of life. Not many humans will remain unchanged, those that change may die because of their changes or because the remaining human population kills them when their changes start. There will be beasts mulling about to cause grief and havoc on those paths they cross which will further lower the number of sentient/human competition. That's not even to mention the number of people dying of natural causes: exposure, infection and the like, or the diseases that will spark from people not knowing how to properly dispose of their dead.
I would think that going with somewhere in the midwest, where most of the farmland is located, or maybe up in the mountains where there is a natural fresh-water supply from springs, that is naturally filtered, along with a multitude of different, wild animals to supply the people with meat. Also keep in mind that water that was already filtered (outside of sealed containers) will not remain filtered for long. Think about a swimming pool. If you don't keep up with the upkeep, it will quickly be lost to mold and other contamination.

This is a good idea. I know at least one of my characters will be starting off away from the main group and moving toward it. She is the original character I thought up for this plot and I figure I would be remiss to cut her out and miss out on her journey. As long as everyone isn't scattered to various sides of the country, some of us could come in from other areas, so long as the distance isn't too excessive.

You're welcome to join! I haven't started the OOC thread yet. I'm trying to work out the last detail of location before I open it. And yes, you can be vampires, however someone has already chosen to play a vampire, which means I'll be hesitant to accept a second request to play one when we have so few monsters momentarily, but feel free to shoot me your Character sheet through private message.
