Teddy, you do know that Gunnery Sergeants aren't so much rambo-tacticool-badasses as they are logistics/supply/staff/administration specialists, right?
Alright, here's pretty much the final draft. I guess if there's anything else, it'd have to be revealed as the RP progresses. Can't be 100% now can we?Anyway, regarding gunnery sergeants. Do be reminded that if someone is made a specialist, especially a regular with a passion, then he's likely going to be badass in some way. Also, from where I come from soldiers are given postings that lasts only a few years, and would have likely served in other positions and even formations. A commando could become a logistician, he need only break a few bones or suddenly develop a stamina-breaking asthma. Conversely, logistician regulars could distinguish themselves and then request retraining and a new posting as an infantryman, or yes, commando, if he's fit enough.
Anyway, my CS...
Rank:
NS 3SG (National Service/Conscripted 3rd Sergeant)
Name:
Bernard Shaw Jing Wei
Sex:
Male
Age:
22
Race:
Chinese
Nationality:
Singaporean
Service Affiliation:
SAF (Singapore Armed Forces)
Unit:
5SIR (5th Singapore Infantry Regiment)
Vocation:
Logistics Specialist/Supervisor
Position:
Exercise Bright Light Logistics Supervisor
Job Scope:
Direct & Supervise Storemen. Ensure integrity of stores & availability of goods. Handle requests for supplies. Maintain structures in camp. Organise resupply convoys. Administration. Combat role limited to defensive.
Combat Experience:
None.
Personality Report:
Selected to be specialist due to his initiative and selflessness in basic military training. Has insufficient leadership potential but makes up for it with hardwork and dedication. Intelligent, and his time in the service has given him the experience and maturity to deal with matters. Like any conscripts, he is not recommended for active deployment as it is the field of regulars only, and like any conscripts, he will lack the same dedication as a full-time soldier as he is slated for further education and other career outside the army after service ends.
His leadership style within the specialist and warrant officer corps leans towards the conventional, but is more inclined towards using positive reinforcements and motivations, which paid off only on the long term- this tactic did not do him justice whenever he took up positions that ended within a few months, but when he settled down he did better. More often than not however, he is forced to do things by-the-book manner, which he will hesitate to do so, but does so in the end.
Introverted deep down inside, and will only talk about things that he knows enough of. Otherwise, he would be quiet. Not very active, but has to be anyway as he is in the military. Prefers a peaceful and ordered existence, and may not be able to cope as well when things start falling apart and become chaotic.
Background:
Born and raised in Singapore, as many conscripts are. He is successful in his education, and after graduating from junior college, enters national service. He shows aptitude towards general studies and literature, and has already been given a place in an English Literature course in a local university, which he will take after completing his service. He is deemed fit enough (even if minimally) for combat vocations, but is placed in logistics instead due to manpower concerns. He is reported to be a mediocre logistician, but maintains his stores up to expectations (even if minimally) even if his service is troubled by logistical issues. Decides to finish his national service with a climatic bang by volunteering to assist in logistics of an overseas training programme in the US and is cleared to do so. Has done a better job since due to greater experience and motivation to finish national service. When the disaster happened, he was on a 5-tonner to deliver supplies to his unit, which has been redirected from training to assist in peacekeeping deep inside the city. His supply run has been intercepted by unknown civilian force. He and his supply and transport squad is forced to retreat due to overwhelming enemy force, successful enemy ambush and inexperience. He is the only survivor, and is holed up in a nearby abandoned shack. Due to communications failure, he is unable to signal homebase nor his unit.
Current Status:
Mildly wounded with a graze wound on his left arm. Mentally traumatised, possible PSTD. Stranded. Awaiting rescue or new orders.
Physical description:
1.75m tall, 75kg heavy. Tanned skin due to service. Black hair, dark brown eyes. High cheek bones, soft eyebrows, maintains a side-parting that is not even visible due to mandatorial short haircut. Short nose. Medium lips.
Equipment loadout:
No.4 uniform set(standard military, digital woodlands camouflage. Consisting of admin shirt inside, trousers and long-sleeves, socks, cap and beret, belt), combat boots, ID tags. Jacket (for rain or warmth, matching camouflage). Mosquito neck scarf (used for warmth). Combat gloves. 1L Water Bottle. 2L Water Bladder [the rest is for deployment and combat use] iLBV (Load-bearing Vest with two grenade pouches, three magazine pouches, one bottle pouch, one back pouch, one camelback pouch), kevlar helmet (with matching camouflage cover on), elbow and knee guards, ballistic goggles, pistol holster, firearms cleaning kit, multi-purpose tool, Advanced Combat Man System (ACMS which has a Personal Radio, Comms Keypad, Portable Computer, Head-Mounted Display, Weapon Interactor), Fieldpack (which has outfield necessities, two additional change of uniform, 3 days worth of rations)
Weapon loadout:
SAR21 rifle, rifle bayonet, P226 9mm Pistol, 6 magazines of 30 5.56mm rifle cartridges, 4 magazines of 15 9mm Parabellum pistol cartridges, 2 fragmentary grenades.
Equipment & Weapons Footnote:
Due to the decisions of his superiors, everyone in the joint US-SG training programme will be as well equipped as possible to showcase Singapore's capabilities and hardware, as well as (unofficially) to look good to Singapore's allies. However, minimal training is given to soldiers untrained in some of the hardware they do not normally carry. In Bernard's case, he is extremely inexperienced with most of his things.
Skills:
Experienced Administrator- Bernard knows the ins and outs of the office, the culture and expectations as well as the paperwork necessary for his job. He is not a talented paper-pusher, but he has done it for a year and a half. Having been selected numerous times to assist in organising events probably helped too.
Experienced Storeman- Having dealt with military stores for quite a while and being a sergeant who insists on working alongside his storemen, he has gained valuable experience and insights into the inner workings and functions of the many types of military stores. He knows how to treat various instruments and types of equipment with love, and maintain them for use.
Basic Non-Commissioned Officer(Sergeant) Leadership- Having gone through the course, training and actual application of his leadership skills, Bernard knows a thing or two about leading men, though he is no natural leader. Having nearly completed his national service, he has accumulated enough experience to at least do his job as a sergeant, though he will never excel in it.
Basic Marksmanship- After going through basic military training as well the advanced trainfire package, as well as specialised training for a logistics sergeant to defend his convoy, Bernard could certainly land shots, expecially with a SAR21. He could still do it even if the target is moving. However, he is untested.
Defense-Centred Tactics- Bernard is trained more as an ersatz infantryman, meant to mostly defend rather than aggressively assault. This is due to his job as a logistician, who will either be at base or in a convoy. With much defensive doctrines, tactics and training bored into him, he will be able to do a decent job in holding an area, but he would think twice about attacking.
Radio Discipline- Bernard is trained to use radio of any kind appropriately and follow the standing orders related to them, such as the various terms and codes. While he could barely remember his lessons, he could assemble, reassemble and diagnose certain models of radios, especially those he is familiar with.
Basic Field Survival- Like any other soldier, Bernard has gone through basic military training and such, so he knows what to do in the wilds and in environments other than a friendly hometown. However, being a logistician does not require him to be drilled especially hard in this field. Unlike infantrymen who learnt to sustain themselves for a week at least in a forest, Bernard gets only 3 days in BMT and his logistics course. All the same, he could pitch a Basha tent, dig trenches, latrines and cook. The difference however, is that he won't be as familiar, nor will he be as able to remain as comfortable as his combatant brethrens.
Language-Focused Education- Before being conscripted, Bernard has always known that he would be an art student focusing on English and Literature, so as such, he is especially proficient with the language, books and culture. As a side bonus, he did okay in his native Chinese language, so he knows plenty of Chinese literature as well.
Wushu- When all else fails, being a short-lived martial arts practitioner, Bernard could always fall back on the wisdom of his ancient ancestors, and would feel at home with a spear or a sword in hand, or even his fists. However, as his training has little to do with actual application and he lacks actual experience, his melee capabilities is still extremely limited- like what many others would say, it is better to run than to fight if you would have to resort to your fists.
Skills footnote- In short, as a logistician, he is a jack-of-all-trades but a master of none. His jobscope covers everything that many other soldiers do, but he is not expected to excel in them, as his primary concern is that of supply.

Rank: Lance Corporal
Name: Tony Jones
Sex: Male
Age: 20
Race: Caucasian
Nationality: American
Service Affiliation: United States Marine Corps
Job Scope: 2651, Special Intelligence Communicator/Administrator. A Marine in this job field is trained in the use, deployment, and operation of computers, servers, switches, routers, radios and antenna systems, and satellite communication systems. However, due to recent cataclysmic events that have left satcomm systems pretty much useless and with it most computer nets, LCpl Jones works primarily as a Radio Operator.
Combat Experience: Boot camp and MCT. Only one deployment, non-combat. MCMAP (Marine Corps Martial Arts Program) belt: Grey.
Personality Report: LCpl Jones is a hard worker, but a bit scatter brained. Given that, he gets the job done and will work his fingers to the bone to make sure he completes the tasks he is given. However, this trait is a double-edged sword as Jones will sometimes skip over more important happenings (like eating all day or remembering to opcheck gear) to complete the current task and generally bites off more than he can chew. Outside of work, he is not a known giver of fucks and is generally lazy. He's a bit of a loner but can be charming and witty when called upon to do so, just as long as you give him some alone time to recharge his batteries now and again. He has a bad habit of taking everything seriously but has an odd sense of humor that most people laugh at. He's either going 5 or 90 MPH, there is no in between. Smokes like a chimney, though.
Background: Between the choice of a dead-end job leading nowhere and a military career, Jones chose the better option. While physically weak at first, he scored high on the ASVAB and trained to become strong enough to sign up. After boot camp and MCT came A-School for primary MOS training, and while knowing very little about computers then Pvt Jones picked up on them quickly. He was promoted to PFC for time in service and earned a meritorious promotion to LCpl for coming in 1st in class with a 94% score, no failures, and the position of 1st Squad Leader. PCSed to a command element in Japan with a deployment to Korea shortly thereafter. Currently on leave visiting a woman he met through an internet dating service in Boston.
Current Status: Annual leave, 17 days left.
Physical description: 5'9", 150 lbs even. Has dark brown eyes and dark brown hair in a medium fade cut. Very thin and gangly, not as well muscled as other Marines. Physical strength: slightly below average for Marines, above average for civilians. Extremely quick runner, though.
