Roleplays I GM
The Elder Scrolls: Vengeance of the Deep (Co-GMing with O|NoSoul)
Mass Effect: Nova (Collaborative GM project among all players)
Should have known better than to state my opinion. I apologize sincerely for bursting your bubbles of RPG being the absolute bastion of perfection.

Also, Kestral, I may have included cliches, but at least I didn't set the damn thing in randomnarutobleachawesomeomegainvinciblesuperfortr ess v.1.2.45654. I am not very impressed with that RP, of course, but I put in as much effort as I expected to get out of it. I was in the mindset of "Yeah this is doomed to failure, but I guess I can at least try".
I'm not even saying it's a bad RP, mind you. As we're all aware an RP's worth isn't determined by it's OP but by the interaction between and accumulation of posts in the IC. I just think it's really, really silly to judge something for... Well, lazy, when you're openly admitting you have that very same mindset. You see, there's plenty GM's that put in more effort and creativity in their Naruto RP's than you did in your 'original' RP. So the broad statement of all fandom RP's being lazy and stupid is... Well... Ignorant, don't you agree?
we have such sights to show you
I'm of the mindset nowadays that originality means nothing at all. I don't join a roleplay (and I'm sure you don't either) simply because it introduces new and interesting concepts or settings. Even if it was the most grandiose, rock-my-socks-off original roleplay, if it didn't have basic tropes, settings, characters, or ideas that I enjoy, I wouldn't join it. I don't even think it's because players are too lazy to work to understand something 'original'. I'm not in the school of roleplaying, where I get graded based on how much effort I put into pushing myself towards original concepts. I joined this damn place to have fun (something it seems you are having difficulty achieving), not to appear original.
Also, if you believe yourself to be so originality-savvy, why not make an 'original' roleplay of your own instead of complaining? You're like a teen who can drive, asking their parents to go get donuts for them in the morning.

Just saying, but it's not like all fandom RPs use canon characters and rip off complete plot arcs from a preexisting source...
That being said, a fandom RP can quickly become an original RP simply by changing names around or ignoring certain plot points. Not to mention that RPing is a hobby, and not everyone is inclined to work hard on something that they just want to have fun with. That being said, what exactly would an original RP be? Sure, fandom RPs are obvious targets of unoriginality, but so is every fantasy/mystery/modern/academy RP in the whole history of RPGuild. They've been done to death in so many ways that I just find it silly for people to think that their RP is any more original than that magical high school RP around the corner. RPs are interesting because of the writers, not because of the idea. We aren't trying to publish a book here, after all~
Of course, if you have a totally original RP idea, please, go ahead and explain your own vision~!

Her chest opens
A fleeting glimpse of a gloomy crevice
Blossoming ribs in place of the heart she lost
There's death's devouring nothingness
An empty shell made to live
An empty chest, without a heart.
I enjoy both fandom and original. My original groups last fairly long, I have one that's been trucking along for well over a year. I have fandom RPs that have also lasted well over a year. I think originality can easily manifest itself in a fandom roleplay given a situation and its cast. I think "original" roleplays can lack originality within themselves, as pointed out earlier, so in closing, it's better not to put blame on the labels and more on the GMs and their players but really, if you're itching for something purely new, good luck. Most things have been done before, and if they're repeating themselves, it's probably because people like it. Don't piss on someone's parade, just make your own down the other street and you won't run into one another.

It's actually quite difficult to get an RP going that isn't a Naruto/Bleach fanfic or some sort of academy thing, since that's all that people seem to be looking for....how people can find that crap FUN is beyond me, but whatever.
How exactly have I "ignored" any argument? I'm simply stating an opinion, no need to mount your high horse and get on my ass about how I'm 100% wrong in every way.
