I wasn't clear enough. I'm talking about it being like 1x1, where the thread-starter simply tags the writing level they're going for. This is what I mean.

So then we'll have a fandom sub-forum, sub-divided even farther into free/casual/advanced, and it's just... too many subforums, and having an over-complicated forum set-up really makes it difficult for newcomers to find their way around the Guild. Not to mention, a lot of those subforums wouldn't have very heavy use (IE: there aren't nearly as many advanced fandom players as there are casual fandom players) but still enough that people would ask for them. It just doesn't work out well to put the fandoms by themselves.

So really, if you don't like fandom RP's, then just stay out of them. It's not that different from just staying out of sci-fi RP's if you don't like sci-fi.
Actually there was an argument to split every section into fandom and non-fandom. Especially the casual section would benefit from this, considering the extremely low front-page time roleplays have there. I'm not entirely opposed to this and tags would be brilliant, but eh, different topic altogether.

You're forgetting that there are a lot of ideas out there. Remember that besides an idea you're selling an atmosphere and yourself. When I have a hard sale I think really long and hard about what people want and how I can lure them in and keep them interested. I had an OOC which stretched over three pages of info. This was a very tough sale and I did a ton of shit to make it more accessible (like basing it on actual history.) Rest assured I'm not doing that again. Yet, we finished it and the RP lasted for over a year.

You have to remember that you're not just trying to sell your brainchild, you have to keep in mind that in the first place you're trying to fulfil a desire. This is a treacherously difficult concept to grasp, however once you understand this concept, it will become easier to plan and tweak your presentation, as well as to add or subtract some content while keeping your brainchild alive.

I don't know about you, Niko, but I thought the blasphemers was pretty original. Uriel didn't have many outside influences for the whole soul weapon thing... at least I don't think so. If you still think it's not original, I'd be happy to make one with you.

I usually prefer to roleplay in a well established setting that give me allot to work with when it comes to character creation and that usually mean a established setting. When that is said I have seen allot of original setting games take of and run for a long time and popular, established setting based games fail. I have tried for some time now to start a Wheel of Time RPG and I get a few interested but interest do not seam to last and the IC threads die in a few days. I more think that is it generally hard to start long lasting games on this site than there being one type of game that generally do not get players.

Now it is not about being lazy, but for the most part in a original setting usually there might be two A4 pages or less with setting information, in an established setting there are often thousands of pages of setting information, or a series of movies or TV shows and so on, a huge wealth of information to draw on to create rich stories in a setting that everyone involved knows. I think it is fine to prefer to play in original settings, but to say that it is more creative or better than fan RPGs in established settings is just plain wrong.
