Kitana scoffed and rolled her eyes at the arrogance behind the voice. A bit of arrogance lingered in her own personality as well, but not as much as one would expect from your everyday princess. Most people would expect a princess to be either one of two things. One being a helpless but pretty damsel in distress who was completely defenseless and would always wind up kidnapped, and would wait in whatever dungeon they had been locked in fantasizing pretentiously about whatever handsome knight in shining armor would come to rescue them. The other type of princess was a spoiled, overly pampered brats who would sit in her little castle tower watching over the commoners insignificantly, like a colony of ants. Many princesses would sit quietly in their throne, glaring insolently at every other person they see and viewing them as trash. Or worse, some princesses were callous enough to consider every member of their kingdom expandable trash. Pawns meant to serve them and only them, and are expected to do their bidding without hesitation or question. Some would actually strut around like they own the place (well they kind of do in a way) and barking orders at servants who exhaust themselves in fluffing her many pillows, cooking her meals, brushing her hair, bathing her, wiping her pretty little rump for her, such lists would go on and on.
But no, Kitana was no stereotype. She was pretty, but not defenseless. Born of royal blood, but not spoiled. Commanding, aggressive and good when it came to taking charge of situations, but never a burden to her people. Kitana lacked any of that pathetic, stereotypical fantasizing that many princesses would wonder about; hoping her brave knight would come and rescue her someday. Armed with her superbly honed Ba Gua style of martial arts training, and her twin bladed fans of steel, she was the last princess who would need rescuing. She had no servants, but she was a servant herself once. She was the loyal stepdaughter of Shao Kahn; the ruthless and ever-feared Emperor of Outworld. Now she fights for Edenia, her home realm.
Kitana took in her surroundings. The room was large but rather plain, but there were other fighters present. She looked at the crowd, sizing them up and taking in the details of the people. The equipment they held, their toned bodies, even their fashion sense gave hints as to how they would compete. Kitana was confident that she could defeat some of the competitors, but there were others who she would rather not have to fight. But she would if she had to, of course. Just because she was a princess did not mean she deserved the perk of choosing her opponents.
