2. Would probably be most interesting and realistic.
Zombies are way too overused.
This would likely be a casual roleplay, unless people vote for higher or lower.
So here's my thought, I want to do a roleplay in which the players are all members of a military unit during the aftermath of an apocalyptic event. They are going around to various different American cities, now almost completely demolished, and trying to restore order to said areas.
Here's what I would like the potential players to vote on:
What apocalypse would you prefer? 1. Zombie. 2. Nuclear War. 3. Alien Invasion. 4. Robot Uprising. 5. Astronomical Event (meteorites, solar flares, etc.) 6. Demonic Invasion

MelonHead does not give out free Melons.
I agree with you. But they're overused because they're popular, so I wanted to put them on the table too.
I agree that it shouldn't be zombies, but my vote actually goes for Astronomical event, or at least some other major natural disaster.
If someone were to have nuked a country, the soldiers would be too busy fighting the war that would have broken out in order to do what the roleplay would be about. (OR we'd just lost the war and would be prisoners, or dead, or not in the army any more etc etc)
The astronomical event does seem to make the most sense. Ok, we'll go with that. Anyone have character ideas at all yet?
Actually a mix of alien demonic could be interesting, it would give the soldiers something to actually fight against with an enemy that is difficult to face, this can also mix with the astronomical event as well, say the demons came down from space on great meteorites, demolishing the cities as they broke free from the flaming rocks and filled the streets, slaughtering the fleeing people and the unprepared military. No what is left of the government and military are housed in fortress cities, fending the demons off from the walls. In retaliation the government formed a new branch of specially armed soldier called the Zodiac Special weapons Division or ZSD for short, they are specially armed and armoured troops with tech that is specifically made for combating the invaders and are sent out in small reclaimation teams to retake cities through the use of special tactics and guerilla warfare.
The team we are in can be called something like Thunderfist Unit, we are a new squad made up of top recruits and are yet to recieve our baptism by fire.

Anyone else like Jinx's idea?
Actually that sounds pretty damn cool. Evil space demons in an apocalyptic stetting would be awesome. I've been playing XCOM lately so also the idea of special unit trained for something just like this is also cool.

Spoiler
I'm very interested in this, but more curious about the universe. I like what you're saying about it so far but more info would be cool.
I would be more inclined for something more downplayed, myself. No zombies, demons AND aliens, if you have to have any of these I'd keep it to one. The enemies are as difficult as "super-soldiery" your characters are. Combat ability/ridiculousness of enemies doesnt equate to character. Characters become more dependent on things beyond just combat, which i like in characters.
Another day, bored, tired, in need of a good read
Well, this is starting to sound like Doom 3, or what would Doom 3 be like if the demonic invasion got to Earth. Reminds me of the rumours surrounding Doom 4. To tell you the truth, I dont like Jinx's idea of having specially trained troops retaking entire cities. I prefer to start the RP to either just before or during the invasion. It allows for a higher variety of characters, not just ones who qualified for the special forces. You dont even need to be in some elite branch of the military. Scratch that, you dont even need to be full-time or even military. Setting the RP at the beginning of it all would also be beneficial for exploration, and is pretty much breeding grounds for interaction and nightmare fuel if you add to the fact that everyone's new to the situation and whatever Lovecraftian Cthulu-horror that spews forth from the mouth of hell.
